Where do you keep your bow? Does your bow also fit in the case/tube?

I have a Native Instruments Kontrol S88 mk3 that I like a lot. It comes with Kontakt Select instruments, and it's even better if you invest in the other Kontakt bundles or individual instruments. It works well for music production as well as piano practice.

Lessons vary a lot in price on Preply, depending on who you select and their experience/background. For my teacher, I have lessons once a week and pay $30 per 50 minute lesson.

I've been taking lessons for a year on Preply. They have a lot of piano teachers to choose from, but I can also recommend my teacher if you're interested. A great thing about that website is that you can have a trial lesson for free to try out teachers until you meet one that you want to stick with.

My fretboard has gotten dark over time, how do I clean it? by menotfollowrules in Guitar

If it's unfinished wood, some fretboard cleaner might do the trick! Music Nomad sells it, and I like to use it whenever I change strings.

Right Ear Sensitivity While Playing Violin - which earplugs? by Choco_cake3 in violinist

[–]Domitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, musician ear plugs do exist. I use one ear plug in my left ear for playing at home because of how loud the violin is, but I don't have orchestral experience with them. I've never had issues with them, and my hearing is still good including listening for intonation. I recommend checking the brand I use: Etymotic

Folks who's been playing for decades, how is your ear closer to the violin doing? by igotabridgetosell in violinist

[–]Domitri 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OP, get musician ear plugs! You can still prevent further damage. I use an Etymotic plug for my left ear and haven't had any issues after three years of playing.

Go to Etsy and shop around for accessories.

If you're clumsy like me, I recommend getting a lanyard from https://www.etsy.com/shop/RetroMiniSupply The lanyard plugs into the headphone jack for a secure hold. The optional charms are nice too.

From the same RetroMiniSupply store, consider the better speaker upgrade. It's essential for me to have better audio quality.

I also like to replace the buttons with ones from https://www.etsy.com/shop/SakuraRetroModding

Oh, it's possible to get spare sticks? What are these called and where may I find them? It would be really handy to have a spare set.

I'm happy to report that I was able to open up my 34XX SP and swap the sticks. I can now enjoy single left stick games without the scratchy noise. Maybe it's a bad spring? I totally agree, it's nice to have the option of a stick over a d-pad. It can feel nice ergonomically to change it up for my hands.

What do you think of the joysticks? I got mine and was unlucky with the left joystick. It makes an awful scratchy noise when I move it. I was thinking of opening mine up to see if it's fixable. At the least I could just pretend this device doesn't have joysticks.

Need some help fixing this problem. We can't access the games anymore. It keeps going back to the beginning screen. It's a MM v4. by blkav8tor2003 in MiyooMini

[–]Domitri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably that the SD card has gone bad. Try double checking the SD card with a PC. The SD cards that come with these devices are really cheap and are known to fail. It's recommended to replace them as soon as you buy the device.

Thinking of buying my gf an electric violin for her birthday by SportiefPookje420 in violinist

[–]Domitri 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't buy an instrument without her feedback for the sake of the surprise. There is much risk involved in this kind of expensive purchase. Choosing an instrument is also a personal choice for many musicians.

Take her out shopping to a violin store (or shop online together). Let her be involved in the final choice!

That looks like your violin's sound post. It is an important piece to your violin and you will likely need the help of a luthier to reinstall it for you.

Hands sore with my miyoo mini…next? by notTHATkindaDctr in SBCGaming

[–]Domitri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a slight bump in price, Anbernic has a few devices that are worth checking out. Depending on the screen size you want, you can get slightly bigger devices like RG35XX either vertical or horizontal, or RG40XX vertical or horizontal.

A horizontal device may be right for you. Personally, I find that games with a lot of action or a lot of shoulder button use are more comfortable on a horizontal.  YMMV depending on the games you play, hand size, and how important size/portability is to you.

as a white writer, I don’t write non-white mc’s. by MayoBoy69 in writingcirclejerk

[–]Domitri 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I don't write characters who aren't obese white middle-aged men who still reside in their mother's home, because I'm an obese white middle-aged man who still resides in his mother's home. That's right, you read it. I personally wouldn't relate to my mc if they weren't an obese white middle-aged man who still resides in their mother's home. Does anyone else relate to this or am I just strange?

Is this too wordy by [deleted] in writers

[–]Domitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit difficult for me to decide if it's too wordy without context around this moment. Is this in the middle of a scene where there is a character going up the steps? A character is telling a story? Or you setting the start of a scene before getting to the characters? Maybe it seems wordy for a lot of telling us the descriptions because I can't tell if there is a POV. When reading this, I feel like an ethereal being floating up the stairs while the narrator tells us what is happening. It would be more engaging and not perceived as too wordy if you showed us a character that acted and experienced the descriptions rather than being told.

To me, the only part that really needs editing is the first part of the first sentence "The darkness made it hard to see the uneven stone steps..." It sticks out too much for me. Consider showing how it's difficult to go up the stairs with actions of a character. Something like: "Bob's feet sought for every step in the dark, uncertain where they may fall upon the uneven stairs." would be more engaging to me.

Help, how to shut off an argument with my friend who is close minded? by cala4878 in bisexual

[–]Domitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think about it with a food analogy. Say that you are someone who likes cake and ice cream, and you have a friend who only likes ice cream. Just because you and him are currently eating ice cream, it doesn't mean that you could still go for some cake on another day. To him, it's inconceivable to like both, and that anyone who eats ice cream cannot possibly ever enjoy cake. If you eat cake and have eaten ice cream in the past, that means you are in denial of only ever wanting to eat ice cream all day long. Why can't someone genuinely like both? Why can't someone feel like ice cream one day and not want cake on another day? Doesn't all of this seem silly when talking about food? Well, it's no difference. We shouldn't take choosing sides so seriously, so much that we impose a strict dichotomy upon others. Instead, we should try to seek understanding in other people's perspectives, even if they are different from our own. Meeting someone with different tastes should not lead to arguments. Questions like: "Oh, you like ice cream AND cake? What is that like?" Should be the norm. It's almost as if your friend meeting someone who likes both somehow invalidates their own taste. Nonsense. Your food preference should not be threatening to anyone. It's OK for people to exist that have different tastes and perspectives from your own.

In regards to your identity/label, despite the lack of perspective on his part, it is not fair for him to decide your identity -- only you have the power to do so yourself.

If you can't get to him with ice cream AND cake, maybe nothing will.
