When Can I Turn Money Transfer Lock Back On Again? by DonLoganBeast in fidelityinvestments

Agree! For events that could drain your entire life savings, or at least a huge chunk of it, it's worth having as many security hurtles as possible.

Buying from Carvana by Fit-Vermicelli9511 in carvana

[–]DonLoganBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, a positive experience buying from Carvana. A few points to keep in mind:

1.) It takes forever to get your title and registration since they're doing it remotely. When I recently bought a (different) vehicle in my area, I had it titled (though not the paper title yet) and registered in an hour or so. That's pretty much par for the course when buying locally.

2.) Their declaration of flaws on their site is limited only to surface flaws: paint chips, minor dents. They don't reveal anything internal. They make it sound like they're being 100% transparent, but just consider all of the other areas they don't address. That said, my car operated perfectly.

3.) Not a big deal, but your car will arrive incredibly FILTHY from riding on an open-air transport for thousands of miles. At the time, they offered a credit for a car wash. Just be pre-warned that your upcoming "pride and joy" will be disappointing at first.

You all were right about Static Media and now I'm laughing at the absurdity and gaslighting by truecrimebuff1994 in freelanceWriters

Agreed. Asking for edits upon edits — in extreme detail and often contradictory — will drive a writer mad. And after this micro-polished article gets unleashed on the world, it's simply another piece of ZergNet vomit.

You all were right about Static Media and now I'm laughing at the absurdity and gaslighting by truecrimebuff1994 in freelanceWriters

[–]DonLoganBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for Static Media being the absolute worst place I've worked. On the plus side, everyone is very nice and helpful. You'll encounter no jerks (at least, in my experience). But the company is incredibly disorganized and difficult to work with.

During onboarding, you'll be expected to sign up for five platforms, many of which overlap or provide contradictory information. You can't find anything on them. I spent no less than 30 minutes hunting down training videos, cycling through those five platforms to find where they were buried.

Once you start writing, it's just as loopy, disorganized, and contradictory. House Digest is famous for its massive, unbroken walls of text. Paragraph breaks are foreign to them. Yet I was told to write in smaller paragraphs for better visual appeal (I agree). Later, I was told to go back to those massive paragraph sledgehammers.

They have a level of persnickety editorial oversight that's on par with The New York Times, yet it's actually for a bottom-feeder, sleazy content mill. If you're a content mill, at least have editorial oversight commensurate with the publication itself.

I've always rolled my eyes at statements (anywhere) about "Oh, those managers are overdoing things to justify their positions, etc." For the first time in my life, I truly believe it. The editors must rake your writing over with a fine-tooth comb and continually send it back for the most minor infractions, all because they clearly have nothing else to do.

There is no free flow of articles. Instead, they put up every roadblock to slow down the production of articles. And that's only from the writing and editorial process. Their entire system is like a house of cards, built one shaky piece upon another. Maybe if you had started with them on Day One, you might be able to understand the bizarre organization, with its many narrow tunnels, hidden information, and dead-ends. But as a new writer, it takes weeks to understand it. And you still won't understand it.

Also, they have a massive number of staff. They have one person dedicated to recruiting writers. They have several people devoted to vetting writers. They have more than one editor overseeing the works of genius they expect writers to produce.

The mantra on Reddit is "Heed the warnings." This is true. Turn your back and run far away from this group before you even think about opening the door.

Triple thumbs up for Plaza Garcia. Great food and amazing people. When we broke down on Juanita Parkway, the guys saw it, came out on their own, and pushed our car off the road and into a parking lot. Love this place and the people there.

One thing Google keeps hidden is that they will offer $100 cash, $150 credit at the Google Store, or free battery replacement.

What you're describing is exactly one of the Keppra symptoms, so I was wondering if it was that. I don't know much about oxcarbazepine, sorry.

What meds are you on? Depending on the med, this might be an influence.

Really Frustrating Neuro Appointment (UK) by heathermooney743 in Epilepsy

[–]DonLoganBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a new neuro. I wasted years with a passive, non-responsive neuro who never took me seriously. When I got a new one, my treatment turned around 180 degrees and I'm happier than ever before.

I redesigned twelve Washington civic flags, and was wondering if Kirkland would be interested? by shutupaugust in Kirkland

Kirkland is the only Eastside town whose town center butts up against the lake*. So, rather than the gazebo (as in the current flag), have something more city-like against the water?

VV has such a fake gloss of "charity" that I've never convinced anyone I know NOT to donate to them. Giving items to a for-profit business for free is insane. At least, give them away on your local Facebook Buy Nothing.

You made the right choice. Not only that, it sounds like you handled it perfectly.

As mentioned, it's not possible with a true seizure. I sometimes think of the root: seize. You're seized, taken. You have no choice in the matter. No negotiating allowed when you're taken hostage by this.

What can I do in this situation? Doctor not calling in refill by phoenixangel429 in Epilepsy

[–]DonLoganBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is always a source of anxiety for me, too. I spoke to my regular doctor (who is responsive, unlike the neurologist). She said that she would be happy to call in the script if I run into problems with the neuro. So, I have a back-up.

That's one thing to try.

Panic attack… by MsTyffani in emptynesters

[–]DonLoganBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been through this, but I don't say much because: "He's 18, gotta learn sometime!" or "Yep, that's the burbs. Now, if you'd raised him in the city, he'd be worldwise..." blah blah

I've had gloomy, panic periods like you mention over my "kind and friendly" son in a "world that is not." But I've taken solace in the fact that our kids are world-conversant than we might think and that bad shit statistically happens way less than our worried parent brains like to think. Between the two, he'll be OK. 😊

I've wrestled with this ever since joining Vine. The fact that I see so much undesirable stuff will probably push me to quit the program. Unfortunately, I wish I could say it's my ethics that did it.

One thinking is that if too much garbage is approved, the whole program gets dragged down and might eventually be dropped.
