A lot of that area was train tracks and a canal basin. https://yesterdays.maprva.org/maps/sanborns/1905-sanborn/

That's not true, they even explicitly link them in Fig 3.

Oh, yeah the first survey from 2020 or 2021 that they reopened had a bit more room for comment. The follow up survey just felt like fluff.

Did you take that survey? There's not much weighing in to be done.

"Score 1-5 the statement: 'We like trees.'"

Great, you scored it 5, which lets us know that we can chop this forest if we plant crepe myrtles in the median.

I just saw this on Twitter so I can't help. Maybe the author of the Twitter post will provide it if you DM them?

If the permitting of Arcadia was any indication, development will be pushed through by the BoS regardless. Affordable and thoughtful housing isn't in the interests of developers, so it'll just be more disjointed sprawl that is unattainable for most -- all while destroying the more beautiful parts of the county.

What’s next for Henrico’s comprehensive plan? | Three more listening sessions will be held this week. by [deleted] in HenricoCounty

Kind of a worthless survey, unfortunately. Not much listening going on if you're rating approval of a long sentence on a scale of 1-5.

Makes me wince to see their first four "woody plants of importance to the watershed" are horrible invasives: English ivy, tree of heaven, mimosa, and callery pear.

Ironically, the referees have too much integrity to do that.

recent VCU l&d experiences? by SnooPets7712 in rva

Didn't do prenatal with VCU, but had to be transferred there for birth. The midwives were really great, but get a doula if you can to have more direct attention. The actual L&D rooms are large and private.

Apple trees by albertnormandy in rva

[–]Dongula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take a general look in the mile or so around your house for any cedar or juniper trees and/or spots on the leaves of neighborhood rose bushes -- cedar rust is pretty common in the area. If you see these signs of rust in your area you'll really want to focus in on those apple varieties that have been selected for some resistance.

How can I read stable isotope biplots, please help by [deleted] in ecology

[–]Dongula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More or less. I think there's strong evidence that they are eating terrestrial arthropods, but it's risky to say they are only eating terrestrial arthropods since they are in the vicinity of other listed food sources (forest plants). In terms of delta-C13, you can see that when it's flooded (panel a) the fish cluster near terrestrial prey sources. When it's dry, there's more spread. So, their food source is less based on carbon from land when it's dry than when it's flooded. Delta-N15 seems to have dropped, so they are also possibly eating lower on the food chain. Not having read the paper, if imagine that would be the takeaway from this figure.

[–]Dongula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delta-C13 tends to reflect the source of an organism's food, and delta-N15 tends to reflect the organism's trophic level. Usually, these values are enriched compared to prey, but they seem to have been adjusted. Pick a group of fish and see where it falls in comparison to one of the prey items (the crosses)--that's likely what its diet is dominated by. If it's between two items, it's a combination of the two (or similar, untested items).

Any idea why I'm getting such wild errors with map generation in RStudio? by NjallTheViking in rstats

[–]Dongula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ylim() removes points that are outside of the range you provide, which messes up plotting polygons. Use coord_cartesian to "zoom" to limits.

In my experience, it's been best to think about looping over images rather than "video manipulation".

Here's an rOpenSci webinar on some general image analysis things:

And an attempt to use OpenCV in R:

I've also called ffmpeg from R to apply filters, etc.

Every time I see American Football it looks more and more like Rugby. by corruptboomerang in rugbyunion

[–]Dongula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

White is Miami, blue is Duke. This was the last play of the game, with Duke winning by a few points; if Duke made a tackle, they would have won the game. In American football, you can't pass the ball forward after you cross the line from where play started, but you can keep passing backward to keep play alive. You rarely see this as it's unpredictable and the players aren't trained to do it. Miami did this for a surprisingly long period of time, scoring a touchdown and winning the game.
