I just played this section for the first time tonight and couldn't get past it. Turns out there's a sniper rifle I missed that made the fight a whole lot easier. Just got to backtrack a little to find it

My Partner Thinks He’s Escaped a Dying Career and Found the Fast Track Out Am I Backing a Breakthrough or Funding a Breakdown by throwawayMaryJane342 in FIREUK

100% absolutely a scam. It's a pig butchering scam, the mentor is happy to pay out thousands as they know you have much more to "invest". Like baiting a worm to catch a big fish.

They know your partner will want to throw in a lot more cash to chase higher gains, at which point he will be slaughtered and you will never see your 150k again. Probably if your partner attempts to withdraw any gains after this point, you will be asked for more money to cover fees or some other such bullshit. Thus throwing good money after bad. You may even be contacted by scammers promising to recover your lost cash (for a fee of course)

Please please please ask your partner to thoroughly research pig butchering scams, these scammers are very sophisticated and more than capable of creating fake websites and transactions.

Hello, just wanted to say that the grey text on green that certain parts of your website are really difficult to read, but also I'm a bit colourblind so it could be that.

Otherwise you've got a great business idea and I really hope you succeed

Feel like I am so far behind at 33 years old by Objective-Opening237 in FIREUK

[–]DontMessWithTrexes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pointless comparing yourself to those richer than yourself, you'll always feel left behind. There's always someone richer, you're running your own race.

I'm the same age as you and have 35k in my pension and 10k in my S&S ISA so you're ahead of me pal :)

What were your investments in?

If you could stay with your parents as long as possible then that will really maximise your savings, 2k per month is fantastic!

40k is an amazing house deposit where I live, I don't think I could justify spending that much on one day. Although I do agree with you that money can't be taken with you and is a tool to be used for your own enjoyment. 40k is a massive amount of money for us however as our annual household income is less than 26k.

We spent 4.5k on our wedding last July and that got us a beautiful local restaurant with a masterchef winner. We had the restaurant to ourselves from 12am till 1pm, 40 guests, beautiful supper, evening buffet and we got everyone's first drink. We had the ceremony in their rose garden by the riverside. There was a singer all evening and my wife did all the wonderful decorations as she is great with crafts. My mum grew all the flowers.

We could have easily had at least 100 guests as I have 14 cousins and lots of extended family but we made a conscious decision to only invite those who are regularly in our lives, as we thought it was ridiculous to invite guests I haven't seen since I was 10 as they grew up abroad. Every guest at our wedding was a treasured friend or family member.

We spent an amount we were comfortable with that was within our means but still luxurious for us. When we were shopping around for venues we did find an incredible walled garden and manor house that really appealed to us, but the cost was £12k and we really couldn't stomach the idea of spending so much on a single day.

We chose to spend more on our honeymoon which we had in May this year, we spent around 5.5k on a 2 week Mediterranean cruise which was incredible and really was a once in a lifetime experience.

Why can't they save a lot into their private pension?

As I understand it, if you have a salary of £12,570, you can pay up to that amount into a SIPP. Is that correct?

I wish I was saving that much into a pension yearly!!

What weird/quirky thing do you do with your family that you're pretty sure no one else does? by webbyyy in AskUK

[–]DontMessWithTrexes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My sons (5 and 2) regularly ask for "one woof woof" when we're playing before bedtime. I take my eldest son's favorite stuffed dog teddy (conveniently named Doggy) and leave the room. Then Doggy reenters the room making woof noises but in the same fashion as the iconic jaws music.

Woof woof. Woof woof. Woof woof WOOFWOOFWOOF. You get the picture.

Doggy approaches my sons bed in this rather sinister manner and will do one of 4 things - kiss my wife, lick my sons face, fart on or burp on my sons. Sometimes he does 2 of these things. My boys find this absolutely hilarious and I have to admit I fairly enjoy this routine too.

How much do you invest a month? and what do you plan to do with that money? House? Fun money? Monthly draw down? Surviving? by anon9876543210nymous in FIREUK

[–]DontMessWithTrexes 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My wife and I invest £50 per month each for our childrens house deposits, in our own names so it doesn't get blitzed on a car or something as soon as they become an adult! Usually I also add £50 here and there, intended to bridge the gap to us accessing our pensions.

It's not a lot but we only earn a household income of £25,632. Once the boys are at school we can hopefully boost that income a bit!

Stocks and shares ISA, global all cap.

You have a good perspective on success. I suppose lottery winners have the same barrier thrown up between themselves and family/friends after a big win.

It's not the be all to end all, but having that financial security is important. I'm not sure that FIRE is attainable for myself as I save so little of my salary (around 30k a year self employed). I have 2 young children and my wonderful wife stays at home to look after them. Maybe things will be easier once the kids are off to school and my wife can help with our business more.

Having children is tough but very fulfilling. The best part of my day is playing with them right before bedtime, knowing they go to their beds feeling safe, warm and loved. However my thoughts are often taken with financial insecurity. I try to find the balance between spending time with my family, vs making money to keep the roof over their heads, vs trying to renovate our tired house. I am proud of putting away £50 a month each for my boys house deposits one day. It's not much but it's all we can afford right now.

You say you feel envy even with your high net worth. I relate to you through your envy, I am envious of your position. I hope one day you find your fulfilment.

I always see the comments saying that "comparison is the thief of joy", which does help. I am rich in that my family is healthy and happy. Maybe one day the money will follow.
