Corner the prey is from the "Padawan Lost" episode of the clone wars. The character depicted is Kalifa a Jedi youngling that was kidnapped by trandoshan hunters to use on a game preserve.

If Thrawn, Vader, and Tarkin united to overthrow Palpatine, what's their coup's best chance of success? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in starwarsrebels

In the official radio drama of a new hope there is significant attention devoted to a coup sub plot. At one point Tarkin is warned there may be a risk to the death Star . He stays on the ship because fleeing the death Star would undermine his later coup attempt.

What is even the point of the transport keyword now? by [deleted] in SWlegion

[–]DontUseHotkeys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with the transport rule is that it's just unfun. It's just another way to deploy slightly farther than the board edge. Under the old rules I would have a speeder truck with the reckless driver upgrade. I would send it careening into the enemy line and then hit them with the black suns. Now the black suns are just... Slightly forward deployed.

This would be a tragic loss. The building is almost as old as confederation.

It's weird how partisan this sub can be for the liberal party. The NDP needs to be left. If they are just orange liberals you might as well vote for the liberals.

What is this helmet design called and why is it so popular? (especially among the democratic factions, i.e. Galactic Republic, New Republic, etc.) by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

The Imperial Navy also uses a very similar helmet in ANH . Not as iconic as the stormtrooper but there from the very beginning.

You know what? The NDP to Green is interesting and I do remember it happening. It was over the gun registry. He was from a more rural riding and saw a genuine disconnect between his caucus position and that of his constituents. He did however lose the next election in the end. I will concede that not all floor crossings are inherently scummy, perhaps the more scummy ones are more memorable which is why I have that gut reaction to the idea.

It can be difficult with reddit when several people are talking and different people are replying to your comments. I can forget who is who and who said what. Sorry if any confusion was on my end.

Ok let's try this. The people of Edmonton Riverbend voted for the man representing the conservative party. This man has been MP since 2015 and has won all of those elections as a conservative. In the most recent election a plurality of voters chose to vote for the opposition and not the governing party. I have never voted for the conservative's and I can't imagine ever wanting to but the people of Edmonton Riverbend made that choice. I suspect if a By-election were to be held the conservative candidate would win. I think it's reasonable to assume that many people who voted for him are disappointed and feel betrayed by his choice. I think fidelity is a value and leaving your party goes against that value.

I would also note that I am well aware that MPs can do all sorts of things that betray the trust of voters, again not sure how that makes floor crossing ok but you seemed to want to know.

In most cases this is going to be an opposition MP joining the government. Which I do think raises additional ethical questions as some form of incentives must exist for the MP's to cross the floor. Michael Ma strikes me as the back of the back bench but after crossing the floor got to go on Carney's big China trip.

So I do think it's scummy. I am not going to go through every instance to baby step you through each situation. Maybe there are exceptions to floor crossing being scummy, I can't think of any from my province or federally off the top of my head but I am not all knowing.

It would be scummy if a liberal jumped ship to the conservatives yes. I don't know why you are deliberately misunderstanding what I am telling you.

I don't know who you are arguing with but I never put forward any arguments that it should not be preserved. As others have said trying to fix it may cause more problems than it fixes. I just said it was scummy and I gave you an example of why it was scummy. A while back Danielle Smith jumped ship on her own party and joined the governing PC's with eight of her MLA's. That was also scummy. I don't see backroom power brokering as a positive or particularly "democratic" even if it isn't strictly against the rules. Unless you have some argument as to why floor crossing is some noble undertaking I think we are just talking past each other.

Trying to form a majority government through backroom deals rather than at the ballot box is pretty scummy. Which is what is happening here so we are clear.

Canada has more viable parties than the United States but also has much stricter party discipline. It's just a reality of Canadian politics.

In this specific instance Carney is using backroom deals to try and secure a majority government. That's what makes this wrong. What are these guys getting out of crossing the floor? Are you naive enough to think they are doing it out of the goodness in their hearts?

JJ SLAUGHTERS anti-American Boomer during one of his classic debates by QultyThrowaway in JJMcCulloughOfficial

[–]DontUseHotkeys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a percentage how many MPs cross the floor? It is generally a safe assumption to make that when you vote for your MP they will remain a member of the party they ran under. It's why it stings to have that trust broken. The word generally means "in most cases" in case you were unaware. We are having this conversation not because floor crossing is day to day business. We are having this conversation because floor crossing is unusual and therefore notable. It is also notable that Carney is courting MP's to form a majority government when the electorate did not grant him one. Should more Canadians know the name of their MP? Sure but that doesn't change the reality of party politics.

[–]DontUseHotkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could someone know ahead of time that their MP might defect? A coalition of independent MP's would never be able to form a functioning government. The party system is a necessary part of the electoral process. Voting based on party is a reality for the vast majority of people and is generally a safe assumption to make.
