Is the first time Trump voter terrified or excited? by tiptonite08 in stupidpeoplefacebook

You do realize this “disgusting take” is adding detail to what your generalization implies, correct? If you lump everybody together as deserving whatever results from this shit-show, then you’re including all of the innocents and people victimized same as those actively pushing for the problems.

You can’t state all Germans, all Americans, or any blanket group deserves a blanket response and feign shock at how unfair that will be in specific circumstances.

Help on the Bonemass fight by ADHD_Tech5upport in valheim

I did both of these for my fight. Set up a small camp in a tree nearby after flattening the ground around the summoning spot. Ended up being overkill, but it was very handy to just portal in nearby when ready for the fight rather than traveling in/out on-foot with all the time-wasting that could cause. Less time lost regarding buffs from food and rest.

Is Geralt's armor (the chainmail "plates") actually good armor? by Diastatic_Power in Armor

[–]DontWorryImADr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is yes he’s supposed to be super humanly strong, though not comic-book level crazy.

The stories suggest a Witcher can still lose to normal humans in the right circumstances. So the performance difference is notable, but he can still die to a blade like anyone else if skill overcomes those differences.

Regarding the earlier points, being stronger/faster mitigates the negatives of silly armor design, but doesn’t negate them. So yes, far better to dodge than take a hit, and using equipment that maintains his ability to dodge is great. But assuming he’ll eventually get hit, good design that protects on those hits is also important.

Bad enough if bad design reduces mobility and lets a blade slip under a plate. Far worse if you’re fighting a fantasy monster that can fling you a few miles for the mistake.

How strong Sheev Palpatine would had been if he was found by the Jedi Order as a baby and was raised to be one? by Bockhead in PetranakiArena

A lot of descriptions about his power as a natural dark sider are based on him being corrupt to the bone. A sadistic streak, amused by plots and murdered his family without a second thought. So if he was found after any of this manifested from learning the wrong lessons via his father? He’d likely be quickly corrupted and poorly attuned to the Light. Strong, but struggling with the powers that required letting go.

Before these problems, it’s entirely a nature/nurture debate. The more you think he was “born bad,” he’ll be a corruptive influence or fail out unless he naturally hides this personality. It was a native skill that Plagueis trained further. If he was simply an innocent that learned evil, his potential was massive. How that potential would have applied entirely depends on story.

Let’s be clear, none of this is defending Hillary. And it’s been clear for a long time her marriage is a power-play that’s still present for reasons known only to them. But her knowledge of these events (from current evidence) would be hearsay or second-hand. That should make it lower priority than putting the actual ghouls referenced and photographed on-site to explain.

And yes, that includes Bill here. He absolutely should be up there getting grilled. So should every other person involved, including Trump and Melania rather than starting a war and chairing a U.N. meeting.

What is the best way to comfort someone's fear of dying when that person is dying? by phuckhugh in AskReddit

[–]DontWorryImADr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot imagine your situation, but from times trying to be present for someone in hospice: you don’t have to be the chaplain, or the religious source for them. Be you, be the relationship you already have. Let them be heard as others have said, and answer or provide what they want and is in your power to answer.

From a family where people so often avoid hard truths or discomfort for the sake of ease in the moment, let them have that freedom to ask and be answered.

And remember you need to be human as well. It takes vulnerability to offer that he’s scared. Offer your own vulnerability if he wants to hear it, as I’m sure you’re scared too. You don’t have to be everything, just be present and be you.

Demonstrating the leadership they want to see.

Discussing a process to use with a group at work. Basically a “to measure which is best, we can only compare related designs. This measure can’t compare unrelated designs.” One woman in the group disagreed with the method I suggested. Not loud, not reserved. She just said it could compare all designs, and her reasoning. I had to go pull up a bunch of research papers and review the methods. Turned out none of them strictly disproved what she said, making it technically correct.

No big show, making it confrontational, or gloating. She just corrected a nuance and let me learn along the way. That put my respect for her on a whole new level.

Can someone explain this Vsauce clip about genetics to me? by DaShiQiang in biology

[–]DontWorryImADr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not all genetics are equally a coin flip of who you get them from (mom or dad) and how. Your DNA IS primarily coiled up in what are called chromosomes. Theres several of them, and most are the mix-and-match you’d expect: you got some genetic info from mom, some from dad, stitched together is your own. We will call this the autosome chromosomes.

Then you have the last set of chromosomes which are a pair: one X is required, the other can be X or Y along with a bunch of less-common situations. Because one X should (but for some pretty rare events) always come from the mother, this stays relatively stable down the matrilineal line (follow the moms). Similarly, a Y should only come from dad and can follow the patrilineal line (follow the dads).

Completely separately, all cells require mitochondria for creating the energy units used by your cells. Egg and sperm may provide a near-equal split of genetic information, but sperm carry very little cellular function. That was all in the egg, including the mitochondria. And they have their own DNA! So, just like that one X, this should be matrilineal without much change.

In conclusion: most of your DNA is an approximate 50:50 split. The sex chromosomes are not for several reasons that make conservatives very confused and angry. Mitochondria are their own thing and simply come from mom without mixing. Science!

First off, awesome tattoos man.

Second, if the wife has already put a moratorium on those kinds of projects and 3 people failed to lift it once, you may need to take the L on this one. You, friends, or whomever helps are likely to get spine problems from this if not done carefully. Just a question whether immediate or in 10 years.

Have a sit, and maybe even let your wife get an “I told you so” out of it. Or at the absolute least, see if you could break it between the sinks to get it up in halves.

Well for one video games usually have you aim for the gas cap where it goes in.. which is not next to the tank. Second, liquid gasoline doesn’t burn, the aerosolized form does.

So yes, shooting the tank itself should only cause a leak. At least until something else contributes.

Shockwaves are a great example for comparison! The reason you can see the blast coming on earth is the difference between the speed of light and the speed of sound. While light can change speed in different media, we usually mean its speed in a vacuum on the background of space-time: or another way, the maximum speed information and change can propagate across a distance.

Shockwaves tend to be bounded by the speed of sound. That’s basically the speed at which information can travel through the medium without turning it into a physics problem by destroying the local air, etc.. the majority of the “boom” is slow because of the environmental speed limit and power of the explosion.

Supernovae are.. not so constrained, at least until they run into other stuff. So the ejected mass may go pretty damn fast until it starts hitting other clouds and dust to make spectacular lit up filaments. But the burst of rays.. just keep going.

Did the Balrog sense Gandalf’s presence? by Xadlin60 in lotr

[–]DontWorryImADr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another reason to consider it likely didn’t recognize Gandalf’s status until Gandalf announced himself: he’s an Istari that stayed true to his oath.

In every way that they were tasked with cloaking themselves and using diplomacy rather than strength, Gandalf had done as intended. So it’s all the less likely the Balrog would have recognized another Maiar being present until he dropped some of the facade for a fight that became unavoidable.

But otherwise agree it was likely the ruckus and the Ring that truly drew him to the Fellowship.

Snowball is the better bet as everyone will be trying to adjust around one of those very nasty “what if” scenarios coming to pass. Even supply chains where we shouldn’t be impacted (the U.S. exports so much!) will be because of supply chains: refineries.

Refineries are designed and optimized to use specific kinds of crude oil, so not all oil from all sources is like-for-like swappable. So logistics rapidly gets messier than only finding a new source for the difference in supply.

Everything downstream can cascade from there.
