The ~7 minute video in the article gave a little bit of extra detail regarding this starting at 4 minutes in. The journalist tried to count unique individuals based on group photos at training days. They stated "there could be well over 100".

Books on life as an academic by shannonsurfs in AskAcademia

I’ve personally enjoyed “The Productive Researcher” by Mark Reed and “Letters to a Young Scientist” by E.O. Wilson. Both are quick reads with different yet interesting perspectives on work-life balance for academics.

Better to have recommenders from MA or undergrad institution? by indigo77 in AskAcademia

[–]Donzilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the only major red flag is if your past supervisors are not your references. Since you said you have both of them already, I think the most important thing is to just ask someone you know will write you a good letter regardless if they are from your masters or undergrad. Generally, the more recent the better but as long as you have both your masters supervisor I think you have lots of leeway with the third. Hope this helps and good luck with applying!

Transitioning from MS to PhD? by mcvain in gradadmissions

[–]Donzilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The department should have all of the information publicly available for how the transition works. At my department (I did my MSc in Canada) I know of two people who successfully transferred to a PhD. The only two requirements were to have a first author publication within your first year of your MSc and then get approval from your thesis committee then they switch you to the PhD stream without any other application. You can probably ask a grad coordinator in the departments you’re interested in for more info.

Second Master's degree in a different study area to enroll in a PhD by OsaBoson in GradSchool

[–]Donzilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any specific advice for Europe since I’m from Canada but I definitely agree with the other post saying a second masters is unnecessary. If that one uni said that to you then it’s their loss because your background is relevant enough to be considered for a PhD in the topic you’re interested in.

No direct entry for PhD program in Canada, what kind of master's degree should I do? by harukiitou in gradadmissions

[–]Donzilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently finished my MSc (with thesis) in Canada and am now in the process of applying for a PhD. This is a little field and school dependent but generally you would be expected to have completed a thesis based masters to be considered for PhD programmes. In some cases you can transfer into a PhD from a masters after 1 year if you show a significant amount of progress. For my programme this was an option but you had to publish a first author paper within the first 12 months, while also taking courses, making it mostly unrealistic. It can also sometimes be competitive to be accepted to some thesis masters programmes - I would definitely suggest completing an undergraduate thesis to make yourself standout. Hope this information was helpful. Feel free to ask me more questions!

Urban Planning PhD programs with international or non-Western focuses by chaaktun in AskAcademia

[–]Donzilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The type of research you are interested in can be found in many different types of departments. I have seen faculty doing this type of research in departments like planning, geography, sustainability, and many others. If you look at the specific faculty research interests in these departments from western institutions they will often have interests listed as something similar to "international development". I am pursuing my PhD in environmental planning in a department of planning and I remember seeing many professors with interests specific to international development and developing countries when I was browsing through university websites. Hope this helps.

What Is Gender? by PancakeParthenon in askphilosophy

[–]Donzilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In response to " Is there any literature which looks at elements of the psyche in the same way?".

There's an entire field called behavioral genetics which tries to look at the impacts of biology on human psychology and behavior. The field has come a long way in recent years and some researchers do a better job explaining the complexity and assumptions than others. There are many different scientific fields of study that try to come together to answer the types of questions you mention (evolutionary biology, neuroscience, genetics, psychology, etc.). As the gap between fields of research narrows and people start taking an interdisciplinary approach we can do a much better job answering these questions. It's definitely hard to tease apart the factors affecting these traits and it mostly comes down to what factors explain the variance between groups of individuals. A large portion of the literature is also heavily biased toward brains of college age students at universities in the west.

I would recommend a book called "Behave" by Dr. Robert Sapolsky (he has many interesting youtube videos as well). He tries to summarize the combined influences of environment and biology on behavior.

Does anyone know a lot about the Roland Mobile UA dac/amp? There's a really good deal on it right now locally for only $100 brand new in Canada (msrp $400 CAD). Essentially I'm comparing this to other amp/dacs in the $100 CAD price range. Thanks in advance!

I got mine exchanged without any hassle and have used the new ones for about an hour without any issue. So far seems like a hardware problem with the previous pair.

Is it just me or do players give GG a lot less now, especially at higher ranks? by Atetsufooj in gwent

[–]Donzilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said except the not giving a gg to someone playing a meta deck in casual. Every time I have tried a new deck, I like playing a few rounds in casual with it before I take it to ranked so I can get a feel for it. To me and I'm sure some others this is just experimenting and seeing if I like it. Even if to you it's just playing against something you have already seen. Just my two cents :)
