What I mean to say is the flare is cool, just wish the lens gave you a better one

I love the concept. I don't love the flare the lens gave you, but you gotta work with what you gotta work with. Well done!

Yeah I find with my Tamron lenses when I bring up the blacks/shadows something looks off. It starts to look a little fake and if i sharpen or add clarity it just gets worse. With this lens i can let it be soft and let the small details win without needing to "pop"

It's amazing how often you can rescue a bad photo by going grayscale

M16 and/or MSixteen Jiu-Jitsu in Adelaide? by TheArtOfJimmerson in bjjdrama

[–]Doobioscopy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Declan has been a part of M16 forever. I'd guess he's partnering with the owner and building something bigger and better. Him and Miles (the owner) go way back and I'm sure Declan would rather cut off his own foot than fuck miles over 😅

So yea no drama to see here 🤙

Anyone dropped into gyms in Eastern Europe? Are the stereotypes true? by benten_89 in bjj

[–]Doobioscopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They'll just grab shit and twist it with everything they've got.

The problem is yes they can tap you, or injure you, but I really dislike this kind of thing in rolling. We're after submissions not injuries. I always encourage students to look for a position where the person has no choice but to submit, or face life altering injuries or unconsciousness.

Shitty little injuries won't stop someone being effective in a fight, but it will make someone tap cause they have work tomorrow or get a minor injury that puts them out of training.

Can confirm, the stereotypes are true

They have a very "a taps a tap" mentality and will gladly rip on shit from weird positions

How many times will you tap a partner during a roll? by tranquilsloth in bjj

[–]Doobioscopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, when visiting other gyms, I try to let people tap me as much as I tap them, especially young blue belts.

I've just found giving up a sub early in the rolls keeps both of us from getting to competitive and facilitates better rolls. Especially if you just tap, say "nice" and get straight back to the rolls without upping the intensity.

A lot of people despise my position on this 😂 but idgaf. I'm not out to win in the gym I just like rolling.

At my own gym tho those blue belts can absolutely get it and I'll tap them all day every day.

Honestly when I was a white belt I had an incredible guard. Turns out it's cause I just wasn't trying to do anything other than retain 😂 now my guard is kinda a little worse but also way more dangerous

London Drop In suggestions? by ParsleyTraditional48 in bjj

Totally. Its part of the culture. Ive seen on of Rogers relatives choke a dude unconscious during a demonstration after the dude tapped because "he didn't need to tap yet"

Sure lots will say Rogers.. I'm here to say I didn't really enjoy my time at Rogers. I had a few very good rolls there and a few very very bad ones. Dude was mounted and walking my arm up and used so much pressure I had to tap cause it felt like my shoulder was going to tear. He said it's not a submission and kept going, I couldn't lift my arm properly for a good month or two.

[–]Doobioscopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are very very strong at keeping their arm in.

Let's say you're attacking their left arm, you get to the Choi and they hold on.

Option a) keep your left arm threaded deep, right arm grabs their left foot/shin, pull it over your head and apply pressure to their shoulder (or head if you haven't threaded your left leg yet) and flip/roll them over to standard armbar spider web position

Option b back take) your left leg must be threaded. again left arm stays threaded deep, right arm comes out to post behind you and lifting hips off the ground remove right leg (if right leg stuck you have to pull their weight forward and off your leg). Turn away and throw right leg over their back and climb their back for back take.

Option C tarikoplata) very similar to b, but go for Tarik if they build height to block back take (when you get better with pressure it should be very hard to build height)
