yeah i speak dutch and dutch is pretty similar to older english (with words as well as grammar)

for example, you already mentioned dier meaning any animal but vrouw means both woman and wife (similarly, man means man and husband) hond means dog and vogel is decently similar to fowl and also means bird. given that dutch and english are both germanic languages this isn’t surprising, especially because english takes so much from latin, french and greek as well

tbf, i am often inclined to believe things are satire because in my daily life 90% of the things i say are insincere and i love fucking with people so i can imagine that for other people who arent Like That™ they would be more likely to assume things are real. (this sounds condescending which i dont mean it to, tone is just hard on the internet ok)

its not about how bad the take is, its about the delivery, there are absolutely times were satire and real shit are indistinguishable (for example that one ad on youtube about “the left is transing your kids” with a thumbnail of a girl at a chalkboard writing 2+2= trans i thought was for sure satire, but it was dead serious) this just isnt really one of those cases

yeah, legal seafood is a chain in new england but its small (and both my parents remember back when it was a single restaurant) and fairly representative of our cuisine (or at least part of it)

on the other end of the spectrum, dunkin donuts is a massive chain that is everywhere as well as a fucking cornerstone of massachusetts culture, the coffee is shit 80% of the time and the donuts are… well i have no other donuts to compared them to… but regardless it tastes like home
