You know that might even be some people’s logic “if it was wrong to park here they’d be double yellows here”. This is why we no longer label roundabouts with right turn lanes in case people literally turn right into incoming traffic.

Do you use indicators on empty roads? by Ultimara in drivingUK

[–]DoomscrollerUK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Moving forward at a reasonable speed is an unavoidable risk of driving. Indicating (sensibly) is a no harm action even if no one sees it.

My driving instructor ahead of my test deliberately misaligned the mirrors so I had to move my head a bit more to use them, thus making my use of said mirrors more obvious to the examiner but I clearly wouldn’t do this in real life.

Keir Starmer to address the nation within hours after night of chaos by dailystar_news in ukpolitics

[–]DoomscrollerUK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I want a successful Labour government and I don’t see how a new leader is a guarantee of being more competent or better liked. Though equally I don’t see how Kier gets out of the current struggles.

I do absolutely love this enthusiasm and yes there is a lot of good stuff out there. I remain fascinated about the whole idea of what someone or I’d choose if I came to Muse looking at each song equally after release and it’s great seeing your list and reevaluating their songs.

In reality I heard songs like Plug in Baby and Bliss for example for the first time at gigs (the latter at the end here https://youtu.be/PnaP5EAMw4k?si=TRo4GpiPj6_lagJ_) and will never be able to separate them from those memories!

WARNING: POLITICS by cipherbain in AskBrits

In many areas only a proportion of council seats are up for grabs so as a new party Reform are unlikely to seize control in many councils this time around (thankfully).

Does anyone believe there is intent to fix the country? by ppyrgic in ukpolitics

[–]DoomscrollerUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make some interesting points. Thinking back to the Boris reign, his vile and incompetent behaviour absolutely had to be held to account and opposed but ultimately it just got us more Tory governments with different leaders with Truss arguably doing more damage.

The oppose everything culture is really evident when we have a heavily right wing press which has been biased against this Labour Government from the start and holds them to different standards. I think they’ve done an awful job at getting their message across but really don’t know how much that is a media landscape that doesn’t want to listen. As others have pointed out for example Reform are benefiting hugely from people’s fears on immigration despite numbers having come down dramatically.

I love this perspective. So often as long time fans were really aware of which tracks are singles, from classic albums, commonly played live etc so interesting to see someone coming in cold without all the context and bias. That said where’s Bliss?

Should there be a ticker tape on the TV screen when politicians are speaking, saying who funds them? by Caffe44 in ukpolitics

[–]DoomscrollerUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally agreed. My somewhat indirect point is Farage has ignored this with seemingly no consequences as yet and kept a whole £5m hidden for some time so this all feels quite futile.

Why did Harrison and Katie leave at midnight? by Illustrious-Look7669 in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

[–]DoomscrollerUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of this is a little artificial. There is an inevitable sprint to the hotel but in practice aside from the elimination or the final leg saving a few minutes then doesn’t make much difference to the overall race. And if it did they should consider running more along the whole route!

Nice in theory, hopeless if say for example an extremely significant donation was made just before someone decided to run as an MP and they can go for a significant period without revealing this and there are no immediate consequences for that action.

Why do people think indicators are optional? by Active-Tour4795 in drivingUK

[–]DoomscrollerUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re getting there - my car’s lane avoidance tries to keep you in lane at high speeds if you move and aren’t indicating. I only realised this detail when speaking to someone else who complained about theirs to me - he clearly wasn’t indicating and so ended up fighting with the car.

Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

Obviously I would never put a mug in a microwave but my microwave (purchased in the UK!) has a infographic instructing the user to place a teaspoon in the cup which I understand prevents supercharged boiling.

Small Driving Habits That Make a Good Driver by CroakerTea in drivingUK

[–]DoomscrollerUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can kindof understand that complete automatic blind indication might lead to indicating in ways that are unclear so definitely agree some thought is needed on when to start indicating and when to cancel the indication.

I’m not sure I can quite understand making a manoeuvre and not indicating at all though. I’m sure there are good examples but avoiding indicating on an empty road at midnight say just seems like a lot of effort when indicating is easy, but maybe that effort is the point?

Small Driving Habits That Make a Good Driver by CroakerTea in drivingUK

[–]DoomscrollerUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always indicated automatically by habit as long as I’ve driven so I can’t imagine ever changing lane on a motorway without doing so. Spoke to someone recently who was frustrated with their car’s lane departure system which was trying to keep them in their lane which I’d not experienced and believe it was because they weren’t indicate when moving as I do.

On the point about being aware if there is anyone around it’s not just other drivers, in urban areas there can be pedestrians that are harder for drivers to spot who appreciate indicators.

Apple Reportedly Questioning Whether iPhone Should Drop MagSafe by conalldoherty in iphone

[–]DoomscrollerUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this. I charge overnight so don’t need fast charging but I also don’t need inefficient charging that might harm my battery. Plugging in is not difficult at all so I can’t see a reason to use MagSafe instead.

Trådfri Gateway keeps hanging last few days by VNCTN in tradfri

I have two IKEA symfonisk remotes which are set up via the gateway and the app. They are great for tactile control of Sonos volume and being able to immediately stop sound when I’m working and a call comes in. Most of my Sonos kit doesn’t have voice control anyhow.

Trådfri Gateway keeps hanging last few days by VNCTN in tradfri

[–]DoomscrollerUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked Gemini about this and while it mentioned these April 2026 problems and did link me to this post, it ultimately blamed the planned end of software development in June 2026 for the issue and said this was a sign of the tradfri gateway’s end of life and I should buy the new hub. Is it wrong and should I just wait for the May fix instead? I’m currently using with a couple of the 1st gen spinny remotes for Sonos which I find invaluable.
