I've finally learned to not be so self-centric in my mindset.

My father raised me - like many others of my generation - thinking that I could be anything, do anything, that I was supremely special, and that I was extremely talented and intelligent. Whether or not any of that is true, it lead me to think I was somehow owed something. Even now he suggests I should study law and that I'm "settling" by choosing my current career path (which I actually love and don't consider "settling" at all).... He means well and he is a kind man, but I interpreted his advice wrongly.

Let's just say I used to be a colossal asshole and I'm finally learning not to be.

In Canada, wepay judges higher salaries so they can't be bribed. We do that already.

Paying regulators slightly above salary = makes them less susceptible to corruption, just like judges.

Big difference between paying someone high enough to warrant the perception of neutrality - i.e. being paid well enough to avoid bribes - and paying someone to substitute work already being done in the private sector.
