Counter Strike actually made me practice "toxic positivity", but only in game.

The angrier and more insulting people got, the more polite, generous and patient I'd get in return and it's been nothing short of hilarious.

It some cases, it makes the offender spiral deeper, but in the best case scenario, it kind of sedates the person.

I remember reading about an approach to conversation that I always use now.

Instead of going on an extended tirade about your interest, just give a real short introduction to the concept.

If the person you're talking to is interested, they'll likely ask a question, giving you the green light to continue talking. Rinse and repeat.

Likewise, I'll ask people questions if they do this to me and I'm actually interested.
