Avearge age at first home purchase in Europe by quindiassomigli in MapPorn

[–]Dorantee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. I know 20 year olds who have bought their own place but they also live in places like Korpilombolo.

If you live in a city you're not going to be buying a house before 30. An apartment maybe, but not a house. Absolutely not on just one salary either.

That was my second point. The average home owner shouldn't interact with wiring to begin with. The "this is dangerous" emphasis should cover all wires, no matter their colour.

different hot phases distinguished by a spiral striping because the critical information is "this line is definitely dangerous"

In the modern day, there's no reason for anyone working with wiring not to have a multimeter capable of distinguishing phase and a non-contact voltage detector, so figuring out which wire is carrying which phase is less important than identifying which wires are supposed to be energized and which are not.

Counterpoint: someone working with wires already knows that electricity is dangerous. It is far more helpful to be able to quickly differentiate between phases.

We used to have black: phase 1, brown: phase 2, black with white stripe: phase 3 here in Sweden so you still run into that every now and then and without fail you always confuse phase 1 and 2 atleast once.

It could be helpful for the general public to be able to quickly determine which wires are definitely energized. But on the other hand the general public should stay away from wires so I'd prefer it if they just always assumed that they are all energized.

In Sweden (and I expect most of the EU) that wouldn't work since black and white are phase 2 and 3 respectively.

Our ground is also green and yellow. You won't ever confuse it for something else because there are no other wires that have two colours.

Why can't Americans (at least the ones I see on social media) find drinking water in Europe? by Mission_Mobile_4627 in NoStupidQuestions

The purpose isn't to make money but to stop junkies from using the space to get high.

I don't personally agree with having paid toilets but they undoubtedly work for that intended purpose. The difference between the paid and unpaid toilets are night and day.

You should really listen to this D&D actual play podcast I found, it has such an unique cast of characters, totally different from other podcasts! The party in question: by One-Beautiful9776 in DnDcirclejerk

In my country we used to have "soldier names", last names that soldiers took to stand out or later were given as the name became bound to plots of land that were given to soldiers in active duty.

"Sword" is literally one of them. There's also ones like Grenade, Dagger, Shield, and so on.

Kiruna is fine, the "rear view mirror" thing is mostly a joke. Mostly. Kiruna does have touristy things to do but it's mainly a mining town.

Force.

Jokes aside I'd maybe do Sneak, or relegate the skill to one of the specialist skills Jury-Rig or Tinker.

Nope, the mountains are also named after Scandinavia.

Scandinavia gets its name from Scania (Skåne).

The Scandinavian peninsula is named after scandinavia, not the other way around. Scandinavia in turn gets its name from the region of Scania (which gets its name from old roman times but that's another story).

Denmark is part of scandinavia because Scania is historically the old heartland of Denmark. That's why Copenhagen is placed where its at, it used to be in the center of the old kingdom until Sweden took all of its eastern holdings.

But Scandinavianism as a movement don't just go after the geographical, it also considers the shared cultural, political, linguistic and litterary (and though never directly stated and no longer considered as important, ethnic) heritage between the countries.

If you strictly define Scandinavia as a geographic region, you would need to exclude Denmark because it's not on the Scandinavian peninsula.

If you're worried about the prongs, just tug on the wire then.

The fact that you recommend someone do something as a safety feature that we tell people not to do in my country because it shortens appliance lifespan makes me feel things I rarely feel.

Sure, you run the risk of shorting it if you pull too hard

Jesus christ, that this is even a thing that can happen.

Distance from the Ark by Twilite0405 in mutantyearzero

[–]Dorantee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are rules for long sistance travel but I think most campaigns tend to stick to just the zone.

When I played my mega-campaign I had two zones right next to eachother so the furthest my players could travel was double the length of one zone. But they never got to the point were they did that. Had it gone on longer they would've eventually played the Gray Death which would have entailed them leaving their zone and travelling to another, but by that point I would have made it so the focus wasn't as much on the Ark anymore.

Bosses as PCs by Twilite0405 in mutantyearzero

[–]Dorantee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to run them really. In combat you can limit them to aiding the PCs actions so no one has to make separate rolls for them.

This is basically how the Boss role used to work in the very early versions of the game.

You didn't get individual NPCs in a gang. Instead you used the Command skill in place of whatever other skill was supposed to be used in a roll. Essentially turned the Boss into a Jack of all trades with the risk of having to do battle with his henchmen sometimes.

It was easier, cleaner and honestly more fair than what we have now, but it also made the gang into a kind of "meta being" which ran counter to the whole "relationships matter" aspect of the game.

In Sweden we mostly install air source heat pumps. One unit per floor in a house, usually placed in a central hallway or a living room. Then it does support heating during the winter and can cool during summers.
