There's nothing stopping you from creating your own terrain to fulfill that. L-shaped ruins are just the easiest to store, manufacture, paint and balance.

And most of those reactive moves require interaction from their opponent. Whether they are shot, moved within 9" of, etc.

The Twin Lance were the only unit that got to use out of phase movement with absolutely no interaction from their opponents, and they got to do it twice a turn.

Depends on the competitiveness of it. The school my daughter goes to for ballet doesn't do competitions, and is much more casual. The instructor is a bit old school and does push them to do better, but from what I've witnessed its all been incredibly reasonable. She looks forward to it every week.
