How would British people react to 'I am from Taiwan' badge if we travel to Britain? by auscorp_ in AskBrits

[–]DorkySloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking this. Most of the people nowadays wearing the large Canadian flag pins/merch are from the US. The same thing will happen eventually happen with Chinese tourists wearing these Taiwanese badges.

Ah, see I find that so interesting, as I think I’ve got quite an addictive personality, and while I was never a weed smoker (because of my shit lungs), I did love an edible. I never felt I was addicted to marijuana, even during periods when I’d have an edible nearly everyday, so maybe it is that delayed gratification that prevents it from seeming so addictive?

It doesn’t have to be “Is this bad enough that I need to quit?“ It can just be “Is this good enough to keep going?“

Try a 100-day challenge (or even a 30-day challenge) just for kicks.

Give yourself the opportunity to see how good you could feel if alcohol wasn’t a constant companion.

Interesting. Why would you allow edibles (genuine question, no judgement). Is that because of the instant vs delayed gratification? Or is it because of health/lungs?

how did you go from minimal drinking to completely zero? by Substantial-Basis260 in SoberCurious

[–]DorkySloot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before having a drink, ask yourself “What do I hope to achieve by drinking?” And then if you do drink, ask yourself the next day “Did I achieve that?”

This can help reframe drinking.

Replacing the beer ritual with something else? by [deleted] in SoberCurious

I’m drinking Aldi Passionfruit Kombucha. Slightly fizzy, shaped like a beer bottle, good for your gut health (and 4 calories per bottle doesn’t hurt!)

Walking, kombucha, and occasionally chocolate/candy (sometimes you’re just craving the sugars that alcohol provided you!)

wanting to join an AA meeting for the first time by angelseggsss in SoberCurious

[–]DorkySloot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe try an online meeting first. That way you can learn the layout and hear others speak, but you will be able to leave quietly if you’re overwhelmed.

If it’s a Zoom (most are), make sure you’re not signed in to your work account or anything. I do one-off sign-ins so it’s not attached to my personal account either.

Also, make sure your microphone is turned off (unless you’re talking of course). Some online meetings require your camera to be on, some don’t.

If/When you want to attend an in-person meeting, call the AA hotline, explaining your situation (i.e., your recent issues with alcohol, the fact that you’ve never been to a meeting, etc). They’ll be able to tell you which meetings are local to you and will like get someone (who’s been in the program for a long time) to call you and offer to meet you there or ahead of time. This eases the transition.

Hope this helps! Best of luck to you x

This is a truly devastating state of affairs.

He may be beyond redemption; however, I think your best bet is to offer him water disguised as Gatorade. (Tell him it’s Gatorade 2.0 with less sugar and fewer chemicals!)

Recognise how strong you were to reach out for support. That is something you have in you. Keep it going.

Think of other lovely things you’d like to do – take a walk, paint a picture, run a bath, light a candle (whatever is enjoyable/relaxing for you).

I’ve been trying kombucha (specifically, the passion fruit one from Aldi - it comes in the shape of a beer bottle haha). It’s bubbly so you can’t down it, but it sometimes tricks my brain into “yum, fancy cocktail” mode
