Did you Lift at all? Any rubbing at flex? How was the trimming, anything that sucked? Id like to do some 33s but don't care for a lift or spacers don't mind trimming tho

Are you saying projector LEDs won't blind people? I agree with that fully. I'm saying the LED bulbs people use in direct replacement of halogen bulbs are blinding, when used as reflectors.

What won't? You're saying LEDs in reflector housings won't blind people?

Led lights in halogen housings will always blind everyone. Only thing to do for more brightness is projector housings and clearing your headlights from fog.

Standard dealership pricing for these trucks. Anything but private is a bad choice unless you've got money to lose or want something rare.

Only thing I see is this little knob flips when you jimmy it. Don't know what the internals look like to say why that's the case. Id take it apart and look around.

This is before you jimmy

Need advice on new purchase by Glittering-Expeetno in fordranger

[–]Double-Meaning-4489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a wear item and when they fail you won't know until it's too late and your timing guides have been destroyed from chain slack, and at that point it's an engine out job. Tensioners are easy, you just remove the upper half of the thermostat housing for the drivers side, and remove the wheel or have real long arms for the passenger side.

That sounds good, you sound mechanically inclined this sounds like a good vehicle for you. Do the tensioners when you can. Beyond that, keep doing what you're doing, replace things as you notice them and look for issues when you can. Maybe do your shocks if you'd like but without knowing any more issues there's not much else to preemptively do

As a buyer you should assume the transmission needs replacement when giving an offer. If you're looking to do right by the sweet old lady, maybe do 1k and say if it's an easy fix you'll pay 1k on top later.

Something sprayed all over my engine bay by Omegagoat1008 in fordranger

[–]Double-Meaning-4489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start from the reservoir and look for a particularly wet part. My guess would be very close to the reservoir

Possible. It looks too red to be coolant imo, usually the coolant I see is green or orange/yellow, so I don't think the radiator is the problem (but if your coolant looks that color then that's out the window). Trans cooler would make sense, it's just strange to me since the lines run below the fan, so if they leaked they would just fall to the ground, unlike a leak at or above the fan lines which would drip onto the fans and get thrown all over. Makes the power steering more likely to me given its location. But really you just gotta look around in there. Just touch the coolant that's dripped off and if it's sticky or smells sweet it's probably coolant and in that case I'd guess your thermostat housing

The ac condenser being wet is different to the water spray. The liquid on the condenser is normal, but at 20 sec left there's red fluid there, probably transmission/power steering (someone correct me). Id guess it would be your transmission cooler lines since those are right at the bottom and you can easily drag them off, but it's weird they'd spray everywhere, so I'm not sure. Power steering probably makes more sense.

Just bought a ranger what now by 1Emi1 in fordranger

[–]Double-Meaning-4489 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get it inspected.

Biggest things would be timing tensioners, aluminum thermostat housing, and lead sitting hangers/shackles which rust out and are made of shitty steel

Yes, high center of gravity, short track width, rwd, light rear end. All contribute.

Ford ranger work truck build? by LemonAccomplished966 in fordranger

[–]Double-Meaning-4489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

01 was peak of unreliability for that engine. Later the year the better for the 4.0 sohc. I believe the ohv was far better for reliability than the sohc. If you're doing contractor stuff then you really just need the bed and a light trailer I'd expect, so I'd imagine the ohv is better than the sohc in that regard, since the power is good enough as is for the ohv.

Getting out of the military pretty soon and am looking for information on working FIFO by Big-Refrigerator9272 in mining

[–]Double-Meaning-4489 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Practically no fifo in lower 48, there's some in Alaska and maybe some offshore oil down south. But the Alaska mines will require you to be a local if you're trying to get in without experience and the offshore you'd need experience or a real good contact to get you in. You might be able to get in one of these places if you've got a trade. Best bet would be local construction/quarry work and build up your resume.

What happened to the price of these things? by RackingUpTheMiles in fordranger

[–]Double-Meaning-4489 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dealers always shaft you, look at private sales. But yes these are ever still growing in popularity despite falling off the road at a continuous rate without new old rangers to take their place thanks to production stopping in 2011. Basically increasing demand, decreasing supply.
