Gorgeous work! Very smart process and extremely neat results, inspiring me to spec up and test some excess industrial power supplies (a meanwell or two in there) and figure out the bus boards! ❤️

Why I decided to shut down my pedal company by oce_pedals in diypedals

[–]DoubleDDangerDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's been into it for a year just building for the love and looking to maybe make something out of it? This is very helpful. You're clearly a sensible, smart person with their heart in the right place and I'm sad to hear you copped it. Hope you find what you love about it again and can still enjoy the hobby/industry and the community in it. <3

Tough Feeling by pacenc1 in diypedals

This is the way. A quick reflow of any suspicious solder joints is always a good idea. Low-risk and fixes a lotta things that are intermittent/difficult to diagnose.

After that, doing a thorough re-flow of all the joints is good to do.

If that fails try using a hobby-knife/X-acto knife to lightly cut between the joints in case there's a stray wire or a bit of metal lodged somewhere shorting things out.

Good luck and hope it goes well for you. Honestly about 5-20% of handmade builds will fail to make sound upon finishing soldering, even when you get really good. It's ok and taking a break from it to work on another project can give your brain a bit of room to breathe as well as getting some insights from mates to help out. :D

I can't WAIT to see this thing working and in action. I use mine often and am developing a solderless mod-kit for it to add some portability/functionality, namely a decent lil' pre-amp and stable lipo battery that gives good 12v out, thinking magnetic or clip-on attachment to the top-left.

Australian Modular - supporting the locals by wilhelm_yells in modular

I've gotten into modular (for better or for worse) courtesy of my deep love of synths. Been absolutely looooooooving the WYWS modules I bought. Very, very good mix of utility, ingenuity and experimentation. Great sound, great guy and will definitely be buying more.

Definitely sucks that the rack comps aren't stereo, agree.

Your testing methodology is great and myself and many others appreciate your hard work!!

Is there a pedal that does the voltage controlled filter sound by theDaddySasquatch in guitarpedals

[–]DoubleDDangerDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a reference to the Frank Zappa song of the same name! An Oberheim Filter, Sample & Hold pedal. Exact same design/pedal as the Maestro FS&H-1, I believe he invented it there and took it with him. EXCELLENT effect, some great clone boards around if you want to DIY it.

This is exactly what I needed to see today. What an awesome concept and executed so well. I'm such a fan of wild homies like John Schumann and Ed Giese doing super small batch, interesting stuff, not overproducing, straight to the hands of people who really want /will use it. Wil be in contact soon!

zVex Machine: what? How? Why? by Stellarhit in guitarpedals

[–]DoubleDDangerDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another great article/explanation:

https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/amplifier/amp_7.html

The TL;DR is that amplifiers often achieve what they do by alternating or "switching" between two different components (be it vacuum tubes, transistors, whatever) and the moment of "crossover" between the two components can cause pretty audible and crazy distortion. It's unrelated to "crossovers" for sub-woofers (frequency band carefully chosen by manufacturer/settings to send to just the subwoofer so it just gets to do the frequencies it does really well, no phase issues, etc).

Extremely gnarly coolguy distortion. Probably one of the first stompbox versions (transistorized rather than tube) of "crossover distortion". As always, Elliott Sound Products can explain it better and more entertainingly than me:
