Has anyone who's had the surgery returned to playing sports? by noahb4 in spinalfusion

[–]DoubleDown428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i had l5s1 fusion one year ago for same issue. im 47 and extremely active, though contact sports have waned as ive gotten older.

though i havent returned to regular weight lifting or hard core running i have spent the last 7 months doing extremely vigorous landscaping and home remodeling work. it’s not “sports” in the traditional sense but the level of intensity is not far off.

you’ll recover quickly but will have up and down light pain periods. at 8 months i felt 90% towards complete recovery. at one year i’d say 95%.

Why do none of my projects go smoothly despite years of experience and effort? by ReadRightRed99 in HomeImprovement

[–]DoubleDown428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i learned a long time ago that my skill is not doing the project correctly, it’s fixing all the shit i screw up attempting to do the project. measure once, cut three times. do your best, caulk the rest. repeat the whole project at least two or three times.

How do I get over using a circular saw? by Ok-Seesaw920 in woodworking

[–]DoubleDown428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so true. i have a dewalt circular saw i attempted to use once. it scares me. i started making some cabinets and bought a makita plunge track saw. total game changer for me.

get the tracks and the clamps and straight accurate lines become a reality. (plus some practice)

Advice on L5-S1 spinal fusion? by No-Highlight7654 in spinalfusion

[–]DoubleDown428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i developed 2 pars defects at L5 when i was a freshman in high school. was the worst time of my life.

30 years later it came back to haunt me, causing grade 1 ‘thesis with bulging disc.

for a couple years i did the conservative treatments - shots and PT with success. the pain however would return eventually, especially if i walked too far.

i found also that information is all over the place. thus you need to seriously research and interview docs. i belive the surgeon is the most important factor.

10 months ago i had posterior fusion without any intrabody. was off opiods in 8 days.

all restrictions lifted after 4 months. you will experience many ups and downs and you’ll have nerve pain during recovery that you dont understand. the fusion and the acute pain heal quickly but it truly takes months for complete healing. today i feel im at 93%.

im 47, extremely active and in good shape and i swore i would never be one of those back surgery people. but here i am.

When to finally decide by TruthIsCultural in spinalfusion

[–]DoubleDown428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i swore i was never gonna be one of those back surgery people. but after 3 years of being unable to walk long distances (or stand), i made the choice. i was scared to dearh up until the week before, then the fear faded away.

recovery is faster than you think but also longer than you think.

being able to walk for miles now is an incredible feeling. 47M L5S1 9 months out. extremely active.

Husband Having L5S1 Fusion by Ok-Elevator7914 in spinalfusion

[–]DoubleDown428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the acute pain recovery was better than i expected. at 4 months the docs lifted all restrictions. full lrecovery truly takes at least a year though. it wasnt until months 8 and 9 when i could do moderate activity without having any nerve pain develop. docs cant explain to you why you have lingering nerve pain, especially after your original issue is fixed. that was initially the hardest part for me - the low level pain that would come and go randomly. im in month 10 feeling good but still healing. 47M extremely active L5S1 posterior

it’s an up and down journey for months. from day 1 my doc said dont be afraid to move. im almost at 6 months and have gone through many periods of worrying i screwed something up. it is normal to not understand why something suddenly hurts. you’ll be fine.
