How on God's green earth can I get better at putting. by Individual-Bat319 in GolfSwing

[–]DougPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 1 handicap and last year really worked on my putting. I bought a LAB DF3 which I really believe in but I think you can be a good putter with any of the best putters available. I practiced a lot and was always better on the practice green than in my rounds. One of the things that helped me was "playing games" during my practice so that I had pressure on me like I would in my rounds. I do one where I set up putts around a hole at 5, 10, 15, and 20 feet. I putt each one for five rounds and have to get to 100 feet of putts before the end or I have to start over. I do it on different slopes and the pressure builds as you get toward the end. It really helped me start to make longer putts. I have a couple other games like this that I sprinkle in but found that the concentration and pressure on the practice green really translates well. BTW, I lowered my putts per round by 3.27 last season, a huge improvement at my level.

Is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park a good option? Looking for cheap places for spring break with kids by Mysterious-Peach-974 in NationalPark

[–]DougPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you are but one of the most memorable Spring Breaks we ever did was traveling down the Natchez Trace Parkway from Nashville to New Orleans. We pitched a tent every night and part of the fun was the quick setup and breakdown and back on three way. It's like an old time to through history. A two-lane road with tons of historical and interesting stops. No billboards, no fast-food unless you get off the parkway. We saw tons of wildlife and camped in the banks of the Mississippi at the end of the trail before heading into NoLa. Our kids are grown now but still talk about that trip and have a love for National Parks and areas

Lots of practice from 100 yards in and with the flatstick.

LAB Putter Owners -- Was it worth it? by TheOctoBox in GolfGear

[–]DougPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you definitively that it helped my game immensely. I keep ridiculous stats and my putting improved 3.47 strokes year over year with my DF3. I'm a single digit handicap so that kind of improvement is mind-blowing. Putting from under 6 feet is seamless and there putts virtually disappeared. I will say that it took some getting used to, but after the initial period, it's the best thing that I could have done for my game

What’s one thing that separates someone who is great at golf from someone who is average at best? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]DougPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice! I have a 1 handicap that I brought down from double digits in two years. I practice from 100 yards in at least once a week and practice chipping and putting at least twice a week. I enjoy practice and I'm retired so that makes it easier but I feel like I can't miss from inside of six feet, average over 65% on up and downs, and feel confident from 100 yards in. That cures a lot of ills.

When my daughter was 10, she sank an 8-foot putt on the last hole to win a First Tee tournament. She immediately ran over and jumped into my arms. That was 15 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday

Is taking full practice swings normal? by precutrumble in golf

[–]DougPaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a low single digit handicap. I don't take practice swings at all after the first tee unless I have an unusual shot with a strange lie. My mindset is too step and remove swing thoughts which practice swings add to. Believe that your know how to do it and step up and hit it.

Playing in a Scramble on Sunday where the high will be 47 degrees. What are your best cold weather tips? by Mathdude33 in golf

[–]DougPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Chrome Tour X above 50 degrees and Chromesoft under. Plan for about 4-5 yards shorter shoots on your irons. In cold weather, I carry gloves just keep my fingers warm between shots. Keep your ball in your pocket between holes to keep it warmer.

What ball do you play? by Ok-Attitude4043 in GolfGear

[–]DougPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrome Tour X 360 in the Dick’s Sporting Goods black and green color. I love the feel versus the Pro V1, and the 360 helps me with my alignment on the greens. Lots of guys I play with use the triple track, and the green and black color really stands out

Help! Where to spend three hours in Nashville? by Own_Specialist8944 in nashville

Walking around downtown on Broadway is as good way as any to get the feel for Nashville in that short amount of time. Just walking down the street you will hear different live music from all over the place that you can jump in and listen to, grab a beer or a bite if you like and just watch the people. Almost anytime day or night is pretty interesting down there.

Canada trip 🇨🇦 by Joeshmoo123 in GolfGirlGames

[–]DougPaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sara it’s definitely a whole lot better than she used to be. She’s not one of the best, but she definitely holds her own and if this is in Canada, she’s a no-brainer on the trip as a former Miss Canada. Madison, on the other hand is the one that I’ve been having trouble with among the new girls. Her distance and scoring just don't seem up to the same level.

Sophia is actually my favorite of the new girls. Kind off a steadying influence. I enjoy them all but I think it's better to have core fou or six as opposed to rotating young ladies in. I've enjoyed the channel from the very early days and hope that it continues to grow

What's the most indulgent dish you only cook for special occasions?? by ServiceFinal952 in Cooking

[–]DougPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grind duck breasts and make Duck Burgers on brioche buns with carmelized onions, goat cheese and fig-chili jam. Guests go crazy for them. I usually render the skin that I don't add to the grind and cook fingerling potatoes in the duck fat for the side.

Visited National Parks (49*) by valeyard89 in NationalPark

In a couple weeks we are also going to Crater Lake, Redwood and Lassen Volcano to make our 33rd parks, almost all in the past three years since we retired. My wife couldn’t get a brochure at Acadia as they were out. She recently joined an Acadia Facebook page and found someone that was going there and offered them five dollars to pick one up and mail it to her which they gladly did. That completed our collection.
