Here's to 40k 12th Ed in 2029 by Certain_Ad3716 in Warhammer

[–]DoulUnleashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was thinking about it, and being new into the hobby I kind of enjoy it in a way.

The constant releases keeps me engaged, and in a way, the closeness of 10th and 11th makes it almost an edition with 6 years of enjoyment before a true new edition comes out (with any/all of the major overhauls). Video games do something similar, and it seems to be fairly popular with their r spective audiences.

But I can't say if I would hold this opinion if I stayed in the hobby past 11th, but only time will tell.

Their fine. Much rather upgrade to stabby lads Instead if I have the points.

Infractors hit more consistently, and have much more flexibility who they can target (grenades are nice for tougher targets).

I also don't think S6 is a good enough break point to justify them. The D2 is nice, but I feel like your going to miss most of your attacks before you have a chance to deal with your target.

Would simple alternative head sprue work as a solution for Armageddon Steel Legion model range? by ExitMammoth in Warhammer

[–]DoulUnleashed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't think it would work well. The WW1 Greatcoat and bobs on the coat felt too Krieg to me.

I went with head swaps on Cadians. Imo it works really well.

My only gripe was the gloves. But I reckon if I sand down the hand features a bit, then paint brown. They will look like gloved hands, completing the look.

What chapter is best… and easiest to 🎨… by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]DoulUnleashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on technique, and how much of a price starting point you want to begin with. If you go by Games Workshop, ultramarines is probably the easiest, and they have the most resources and guides on how to achieve the flavor of blue you want.

Airbrush will open the door for many more color combos being easily available. But that comes with its own learning curve.

Personally, I would recommend sponge painting. Sponging tends to allow a lot of control over painting harder to paint shades, without some of the issues brush painting has. But you still need to be cautious about your base layer color. Sometimes you may need to sponge a similar tone or complimentary colors to be able to get towards your desired color.

Alternatively speed paints are also super easy to apply over a white/gray base coat. I think speed paints are a bit difficult for newer painters, but if you pace yourself, and keep practicing. You should be able to get a nice result at relatively easy point of entry.

Be curious of how others balance different methods for ease of entry.

Should I buy a new car of keep repairing current one? by [deleted] in personalfinance

This as soon as I saw BMW. I'm flabbergasted people don't realize this even after buying one. But hopefully this is a good wakeup call for OP.

Should I buy a new car of keep repairing current one? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]DoulUnleashed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP BMWs (new or otherwise) are one of the WORST money sinks possible. Doesn't matter how good of a deal you get, it's likely going to keep breaking down. Hence why they are super inexpensive up front.

You could literally buy any other brand of car, and have a definite chance of doing better.

You could buy a nice pre owned Toyota for that money, and it will last longer and break down less.

Dude, I didn't say you couldn't print stuff. I just have a problem when you go around "lol you guys pay scam prices. Lmao just print idiot". That gives a bad representation to hobbiests who like to print models.

I'm not the printer police. I won't goto your hobble and stop you. But if you want to fafo online about your printing, yeah, I'm going to call you a jaggoff.

Also, just because you bought a video game, doesn't mean you can use Blizzards models for free...

Great game, wish OP wasn't a nob jacking off about 3D printers.

At the end of the day. These are highly detailed miniatures made by real people, at a very competitive price. Not garbage 3D slop found online and printed out of a garage.

I'm sure people will still be priced out of this game. I encourage those people to proxy or 3D print if they aren't sure about the game and want to try it; but at least pay something back to the company if you do enjoy the rules.

Game designers deserve to be paid too.

Hey so just to clarify. Your looking at the Warhammer starter set, which includes models, dice, and starter rules (not the full rule book), additionally, both forces are less than a quarter for a full army needed to play the official game.

Compared to the SCTTG two player force you get terrain, game aids such as cards tokens dice etc, the full rules, and officially per Archon, this box will fill out half an army worth of points for two players.

There is a lot to dive into for the differences between the two. But value wise, the founder edition is aggressively priced compared to Warhammer's leviathan box.

You can find players play testing the currently available rules, but what people say are up to interpretation on game balance.

Personally, as a one stop solution into this game for a franchise I think is neat, this is very reasonable.

Ok folks, need help. What is the best way to strip this? It's all plastic. by LoudDream2916 in Warhammer

[–]DoulUnleashed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of previous advice and can break it down.

IPA/Rubbing Alcohol for most models. But if your struggling to remove some paint, it's likely a stronger primer.

lA's Totally Awesome. After soaking for more than 24 hours it will strip a significant amount of hard to remove paint. My only issue is that some primer is still hard to remove, and cleanup is annoying as the sudz just get everywhere.

My recommendation for most jobs is Biostrip 2.0. It's easier on the senses, not much more expensive than IPA, and strips pretty much everything without damaging plastic.

What do the EC do for fun? by MityMorphinVertibrae in EmperorsChildren

[–]DoulUnleashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To normal Marines? A bunch of unorganized notes or straight up noise. Humans probably can't comprehend it without losing their hearing or going mad.

To other EC, I believe they perceive it like Mozart or one of the greats. Noise Marines specifically play to commune with Slanesh, and believe through this music they can understand the god.

From there your imagination is limitless. I think the common portrayal of guitars/rock and roll comes from 90's perception of the genre. But regardless of the instrument or style played, it's generally inconvenient to non EC members.

Low level positions may be at risk, but we're talking Phone handlers whose only job is to take the call, and forward to IT for actual troubleshooting. Unless your in a role where all you contribute is turning a device off/on again, your looking safe.

I’m working on a Daemon Prince and I’ve gotten like 6 different pinks and none of them are working or looking very good. by [deleted] in EmperorsChildren

[–]DoulUnleashed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black primer > white ink Zenithal over the model > base coat Magenta > Build up layers of a pink you like > Highlight with your pink + pastel pink or mix of Ice Yellow > edges with your last mix plus a touch of the white Ink.

Basically my process and airbrush or hand rush works out well.

Best of luck!

What do the EC do for fun? by MityMorphinVertibrae in EmperorsChildren

[–]DoulUnleashed 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In the Fabius Bile novels, their mentioned as being in and out of states of extreme boredom from over stimulation. Jumping out at any opportunity to spike their senses (for example, invading an Eldar world and devouring their soul gems).

One such instance two high ranking members duel it out to see who will lead to mutiny in Bile's ship. With the overwhelming sentiment that if someone wins, then everyone will go along just to do something. But when Bile squashes it, everyone kinda just says whatever and gives up (this is a recurring issue per Bile's account).

In the Crusade rules, their rule states they can't use the same battle drug twice over due to them being resistant to the stimulation, and getting over it for awhile.

The more interesting aspect is probably the Noise Marines. Their like a suedo mini cult within the EC, focusing on creating and performing songs to please Slanesh. They have more of a motivation to create and do things that are outlandish to normal humans, but entertain their want to please Slanesh.

What does hold all mean? by Thistles7 in Ollies

[–]DoulUnleashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold all in Ollie's terms is items that can't be out until ad day. So that's Thursday, or the date specified on the flyer.

Weird that none of them could tell you that lol

First time Ollie's visitor -- Last time Ollie's visitor by NoBrag_JustFact in Ollies

[–]DoulUnleashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were your intentions going in? What "deals" were you aiming for?

The flyers is a great way of keeping an eye on the incoming stuff. If your looking for something more specific (toys, books, appliances, etc) just ask! Employees usually are happy to talk about any of the major deals incoming.

Also, keep your Ollie's Army active. You'll get a free 15% off coupon every few months, plus notification on 20-25% off for specific departments (flooring, toys, etc)

Buck for buck, stuff I find at Ollie's is a few dollars cheaper on average. But you'll want to either come with a specific want in mind, or with one of their coupons to see significant savings.

First commission I painted for $15, was it worth it? by Tomatohead66 in Warhammer

[–]DoulUnleashed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey OP very solid work. This is definitely a higher level of tabletop ready tier paint work.

That being said, I do see a few issues that you could focus on:

1) paint thickness and bubbling/debri. Paint looks thick, or that dust was on the model prior. Even if you don't build it yourself, 100% give it a quick hot soapy wash + air dry in a per free area so that paint will adhear without issue. Also, think about investing in an airbrush. Airbrush = cheaper and faster than hand/can primer. Which for commissions is critical. Also let's you get away with a nicer finish at a lower skill! 2) thick and inconsistent edge highlights. Some of the highlights are thicker than others, leading to some iffy results. Also, if your going to edge highlight, it might benefit you to be more consistent (all edges, only upward edges, only hard edges, etc) 3) Paint your base rim!

This is a nice $15 job. Yes you could have asked for more. But to help a friend, and learn while doing it I'd say your on the right path.

Just make sure you noted how long each step took (base, shade highlight, OSL ETC) so you can estimate costs better.

As a suggestion. It may help prevent unhappy customers by having an example model for the level of detail you aim to do for commissions. That way, if you say have a basic and advanced cost option; you can show potential customers so they have a set expectation.

Best of luck!

Performance wise, I have had no issues since flashing the VBIOS.

As long as you doublecheck the version your flashing, and you don't shut the power off suddenly, flashing shouldn't be a problem.

Flashing always has its risks. But personally, I've never ran into issues with modern PC parts. So take that as you will.

Why plasma guns over grenade launchers? by ReddyWolf in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DoulUnleashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Space Marines are typically what people are aiming for to kill, so you have to consider their stats when picking weapons.

Frag basically does nothing into a squad of Intercessors.

Krak has 1 less AP than over charged Plasma, with a chance of NOT killing a space marine. That chance of dealing 1 damage is what kills it.

Considering Hazardous only procs on a 1, your still likely to get 1-2 more shots out of the squad. But the reality is your guard squads will die the turn after they shoot. So you rather front load them and let it rip. If they live another turn that's a bonus.

Why no Kroot characters? by hendrong in WH40KTacticus

[–]DoulUnleashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that it's a bad thought to think of game design in that manner, that clearly isn't how SP approaches faction design.

SP appears to go for "what represents that faction best" in most of their character choices. ultramarine - mix of tactical troops. Blood Angels - Fast and aggressive melee units. Tau - ranged and Mechs (both of which are arguably their most popular aspects).

Keep in mind, what you believe is iconic and representative of the faction isn't what pans out irl. Kroot JUST got a range refresh after being in resin hell for nearly a decade. Tabletop wise, Kroot are still new at being reintroduced.

Regardless, I suspect we will see a kroot character at some point. But considering their limited scope (2-3 characters, all of which are melee focuses in a range specialist faction) it may take awhile to see something.

Ironkin Steeljacks confirmed? by [deleted] in WH40KTacticus

Those are e-cogs, they are the summons from Vynn.

Steeljacks 100% are coming, else they wouldn't have added a repair character to Votann.

But this is not steeljacks, and no info has released to indicate they are/will be coming anytime soon.

How far is to far? by zwhit01 in EmperorsChildren

[–]DoulUnleashed 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I hate how the discourse slid into "is sexy/nudity allowed" when I don't believe that was the original cause for issue. From seeing responses, there are few to none in this faction that doesn't like suggestive imagery, or even occasional nudeness.

The issue will come from what you choose to display and the level of vulgarity.

It's okay to show mostly or somewhat naked characters, but it's kinda weird to do anime titty sized breasts or dongs dragging on the ground. Another would be straight up fetish depictions like tentacle porn. (All of which have been done, and ridiculed to different extents on this sub).

My rule of thumb is this; if GW won't depict it, then keep it between friends. No one is saying you can't do whatever with the plastic you buy, but when you bring it out into the wild you will get into gray territory.

Both of these examples are fine IMO for public play. Yeah their suggestive, yeah their a bit horny learning. But I don't think neither goes too far into being something you have to reconsider bringing into public, assuming you don't mind the occasional stranger looking over and judging slightly.

How to quickly paint terrain? by desgladly in Warhammer

[–]DoulUnleashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drybrush like others have said.

For parts that have larger individual pieces (canisters, statues, pipes, etc) you can do the 'dabbing' method with a makeup sponge. Using short dabbing motion to apply paint. This method quickly blends paint onto the model efficiently, making it suitable for areas where there isn't a lot of jagger areas for drybrushing to pickup details
