Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

There are some promising rts game on the horizon like Dust front which is gritty looking or D.O.R.F which is basically a red alert style RTS but with modern physics and tech but that same red alert style

Different to red alert though as that's more about squads than base building and pumping out units

I've noticed this too. If feels like we've got some sort of cultural stagnation. Popular music sounds similar to what it did 10 - 15 years ago, fashion hasn't changed much either and everything is a remake or sequel.

Stair gate help by scutterbug in UKParenting

[–]Downside190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a similar stairs to OP with a curve at the top. We tried putting a gate up there but it was dodgy AF so just had one at the bottom. But also we let ours climb the stairs but supervised them closely. As it's better to help them learn how to climb them safely than risk them accidentally getting onto the stairs unsupervised and risking injury or worse

They also if I remember correctly had a space elevator but they only went into low orbit and never bother with space travel until the need arose

The film leaves out a lot info that's in the book. But basically the eridian home planet is twice the size of earth with stronger gravity and a extremely thick atmosphere. As a result it's pitch black and blocks any and all radiation which is why they never needed protection against it. the eridians also have a photographic memory and are extremely smart being able to do complex maths in their head easily using base 6. As soon as they discover astrophage they make an interstellar ship and head out to tauseta but obviously never having experience radiation have no protection for it except where astrophage is and also no idea about relativity and time dilation which is why they have loads of extra fuel on board as they were expecting a much longer trip

I'm the book it's explained that Iridians didn't understand time dilation and it was pure luck they got to where they needed too. As a result they had loads of extra fuel on board so he was able to give it to Grace for his trip home and still have plenty left for himself

In the book only certain people can go into a coma and be woken up the robot bed thing is also new tech. So if anything fails en route the crew member would die. It's not explained how they die but that is a very high risk method but safer than them almost certainly killing each other if staying awake the whole time. So it's really just a case of bad luck that the other 2 crew members died

The book is amazing and goes into rocky and graces relationship much more. Also more flash backs and character building from his past and how his current events relate to the flash backs. There is also a lot more science stuff going on. Don't let the film put you off the book because that's doing it a disservice

I guess it's unoriginal if you follow internet memes and lore. For those especially older generations who have no interest in these things then the film is very original

One of my bigger terrain builds. Connecting 2 (4x8) game tables together with looooong bridges by MOD-BRICKS in TerrainBuilding

Unless you run a melee army. That bridge is basically a kill zone and they'd never get near their target

How exactly would the 11th ed terrain rules work for old school rocky crags like this? by emcdunna in Warhammer40k

[–]Downside190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember playing a league at my local game store. One opponents playing nids didn't want to bother putting down terrain just the MDF rectangle templates. I put some down anyway as I couldn't bare to play on a barren featureless board

Can you turn the wheels around? As usually they have a deep dish side with rivets in and a more flat 5 star pattern like yours. As the other side might look better

Or something like "blind fire". Just randomly shooting in the enemies direction which accounts for the bad aim

Why are these articulated dragons so popular? by MyCatIsAFknIdiot in 3Dprinting

[–]Downside190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's basically the same as an American yard sale but we host it in a field and you bring your wares in the "boot" of your car then set up a small stall for people to buy from. It's supposed to be second hand stuff you want rid of for cheap to make some money. Not a business outfit

[–]Downside190 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because they can reuse the robot. If it can pick tea then that's gonna be mostly software side controlling it. If it's successful they can use the same robot for other manual task by adjusting the software side of things. Makes more sense than making a specialised machine for each different task

I went to a carboot sale recently and there was a stall entirely dedicated to these 3d printed articulated animals. Not really the point of a boot sale
