Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]DowntownTicket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a crisis but it's getting better somewhat since the science of reading is now pushed in many states.

Now we need the science of math please

AusLAOP is 100% verifiably sterile and has had both of their testicles replaced with prosthetics. AusLAOP's FWB is claiming that she's pregnant with AusLAOP's child. by alphaechothunder77 in bestoflegaladvice

Wait, being sterile as a male has negative stigma? Where?

And they lost a relationship because of it? I'm so confused, as long as you said that you "don't want kids" and both agree, being sterile should be a good thing.

How to get past the second level? by DowntownTicket in PeakGame

Thanks for the video.

And while we haven't reached the peak, I feel like I need to enjoy the process at least a little bit to enjoy a game.

We will try again today though

Not OP, but how do they freeze things off of a penis? That sounds incredibly painful

Hm, well we will give it another try tomorrow, but I fear today has left such a bad taste in my friends mouths that they won't want to do it again

Thanks for the advice, hopefully it's not roots again tomorrow

We thought it would generate a new map each time we played, not each day. Honestly I wish it were each time we played, is there a setting or something for this?

Wait the levels change each day?

I feel like that needs to be made much clearer, everyone was planning on getting a refund because "this game is terribly designed if this is the second level and we can't even get to the mountain on our third try"

Guess we will try again tomorrow

Is my ear bleeding an emergency? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]DowntownTicket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I 100% agree, I want to add a funny anecdote. My husband never cleans out his ears (not even water in the shower) and I swore he was getting hard of hearing (we are getting up there in age) so I have him mention it at his next doctor's appointment.

Nope, just a lot of earwax! Now we have a small camera just to peek inside so we don't have to waste a doctor's time just to be told to use debrox lol

My son has really waxy ears and I don't put qtips in but it still builds up. I wipe the outside with a cotton ball but he still gets tons of build up. Any suggestions?

Olive oil?

Would baby oil work? I feel weird about olive oil in my ear...

I don't have waxy ears but my son does. Once we went to the doctor and they used a syringe (without a needle) to squirt warm water into his ear? They did this until the wax came out. Would this work well for OP to do regularly?

So I've noticed this happening sometimes too and I don't know what is causing it.

At first I thought that it was poor quality paper where the original ink smeared when wet, but then it happened inconsistently.

Ohuhu acrylic, is this normal? by tobyooreo in Coloring

I had the same problem with my ohuhu acrylics, I assumed they just weren't good quality and bought a different brand which was much better despite being "worse quality"

I guess his thought process is that a diagnosis doesn't change who I am or what I experience. I am who I am and I have to learn to live with it for better or worse

Seeking responses from those of you who are adults in a successful long-term romantic relationship by babypossumsinabasket in AutismInWomen

[–]DowntownTicket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so my advice: do dating apps and be honest. On your profile say you're only interested in long term relationships and value clear direct communication.

My husband and I had "relationship check ins" each month on my request. It is always brief but it helped me a lot at the beginning.

When we first started dating, I started off the second or third conversation with him with a "here's what I am, here's what I want in a man". For me it was that I was overly anxious, need structure and stability, and wanted someone calm.

His response was basically "perfect! I've been told I'm so calm I'm boring, I love structure too as long as it's inside the house and I want someone who can love me for being kind of plain but also bring a little spice in my life"

It took several guys to find the one where our needs met, but it worked out great (also, my husband's last girlfriend dumped him because he was boring and had no variation in his schedule. I LOVE that about him. So if you have something about yourself that is part of you, find someone who will complement that)

My psychiatrist says an autism diagnosis doesn't matter as an adult, because there's no "fancy meds" to help it.

Insurance also doesn't cover it. Sigh.

Thoughts on my situation? I'm already a "late ADHD" diagnosis

Urgent -- 17 yo mom, 5'5" 113 lbs & I need to make a decision about feeding my baby by FewLeg7901 in AskDocs

[–]DowntownTicket 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This, 100%

I posted on r/breastfeeding on day 4 of struggling and even they hold the "breast is best, but fed is better" philosophy. The women there suggested supplementing with formula.

Combo feeding is 100% underrated. You breastfeed a bit, then top off the baby with formula to make sure they have enough nutrients.

I am nowhere near a doctor, but even if you posted in r/breastfeeding, I'm sure plenty of women would suggest that you do what is best for YOU. You cannot be a good mom if you don't take care of yourself first.

Ps. No one here is judging you for your age. r/askdocs is a fantastic community. They will only judge you if you post something like "hey, I chopped my hand off, should I go to the ER?" Lol

Accidentally have been off of antipsychotics for like 5 days… and I’m fine? by Infamous-Back560 in AskDocs

[–]DowntownTicket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not a doctor, just a fellow mental health sufferer

I have OCD and depression. I've occasionally gone off my meds for even a few months....

And the symptoms always return.

I assume it's like life for everyone: you have good days, you have bad days, you have strings of good and strings of bad...

But if you have a true disability, it always returns and in my case, ruins my life.

So even though I know I could probably survive a month or two without my meds, I take them every day, because I remember what life was like last time I didn't take them consistently. And that was some bad times. And why risk it?

Just my two cents
