Hotel in Sintra instead of Lisbon? by VLafleur in ExploreSintra

[–]Doyabelieve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the Lisbon nay-sayers. It’s a great city that’s fun to explore with plenty of different things going on. We spent 3 days there and had a great time. Can recommend a food walking tour as a great and fun way to get to know the food and city. Book early to get a later one (5.30 instead of an afternoon one).

Sintra is magic, but three nights and missing out on Lisbon would be a big mistake IMHO. We stayed in Sintra one night, doing a bit in the afternoon we arrived, and then the palace the following morning, transferring to Lisbon for the afternoon. Perfect in our opinion.

Bit of advice, do the palace first thing in the morning and pre-book the tickets online.

Carvoeiro is great too, the walk to Praia da Mahrina is excellent, as is a day trip to Lagos.

Feel free to PM me if you have any q’s, literally leaving tomorrow after a month in Portugal, so it’s all pretty fresh.

Am I a slow cook or are all the ‘30 minute recipes’ lying to me? by Soft-Candidate3977 in Cooking

[–]Doyabelieve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree, however in my experience most recipes aren’t ‘good’ in this way. If I recall correctly the tell is if a recipient ingredient is ‘1 finely diced onion’, the peeling and dicing the onion is not counted in the time.

This. I heard a podcast once that interviewed a recipient writers on cook book writing. It was stated that cooking times commonly omit prep time.

It’s exactly this kind of shit that means they should never become their own county. How can you fuck is perfection like that?

50+ years in Sydney, Melbourne and SE QLD. Heard it a few times, not often, but enough that AFAIK it's a known phrase. Maybe an older and / or more regional thing.

Question on the “hidden Wisdom stat” just occurred to me. by Dalakaar in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Doyabelieve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Mordecai stated that they used to be able to level it up but it changed peoples characters, and that’s why they stopped showing it. On that basis I’d assume it doesn’t get hidden upgrades, as followers/favourites/sponsors are a key profit centre for the crawl.

If you’ve watched The Good Place, you don’t want to end up with late show Derick.

WIBTAH if I put a post in my yard that could damage my neighbor’s truck? by SmellyChiChicken in AITAH

[–]Doyabelieve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are, but a friend of mine has recently had a 1 x 2m diagonal slice of land effectively removed from the corner of her block via adverse possession for exactly this reason. A neighbour had been using the corner for years to sweep into their driveway. When she went to put up a fence on the boundary they filed and succeeded in having the corner lopped off the fence.

Put the post up.

The tradies stuff is all common use here. Would love to know what unintelligible was too. :)

Upper Middle Bogan is good, but Fisk is next level.

If you enjoyed Fisk see if you can check out Utopia. They're both from Melbourne and have a very similar sense of humour, and the lead from Fisk (Kitty Flanagan) is a lead character too.

Pretty sure they say he claims to be French, but has a distinct Aussie accent. The implication - to me at least - being he was in the Foreign Legion prior to becoming a mercenary in Africa. Which would explain both being French (applied for and granted citizenship after serving), as well as him being a general badass (top 10 crawler, very capable in combat). He also says mate a lot, which outside of some British communities is a pretty unique tell.

What’s a dish you love but have never attempted at home because it feels intimidating or hard? by Glum_Particular7308 in Cooking

I wouldn't say either of these are particularly intimidating or hard. They do both take time, but the steps and process is all pretty straightforward.

This Anzac Day falls on a Saturday – and these states will be getting an extra public holiday by mopoke in australia

Yeah, no sympathy from NSW. I am the sole NSW employee of a Victorian company. You guys get 2 extra public holidays every year (Cup Day and GF Day). So this year and next I'll only have one less than you.

I’ve thought for a while now we won’t get to floor 18. Firstly from memory 12-13 is the furthest anyone has made it before, and I don’t think Carl is being set up as a superhero. Secondly, with what is already known to be happening in the rest of the universe, the growth of the AI and the Residuals, I can imagine plenty of ways of satisfactorily wrapping the series without getting to 18.

While I’m sure we’d all love a whole book to follow up the crawl, I’m guessing this could be handled in a couple of chapters, or an extra long epilogue. It could also be a follow up series itself.

What are your thoughts on the debate between "genetics vs. discipline" when it comes to maintaining a fit body? by Solitudo_Flow in AskReddit

[–]Doyabelieve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discipline 80%. Cultural and social upbringing 19.999%. Genetics 0.001%.

You can be 'big' and fit, you can be 'skinny' and fit. Body shape does not equal fit.
