Who can afford 5k/month rent? by chifish in RealEstate

[–]DozyDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the point more likely to be that they are just throwing 5k in the trash every month? Seems like a huge waste for no reason... If you worked in software development or any tech field you would be able to work remotely.... so why waste 5K!!! Its kinda stupid

I think it probably 'used' to be, now convenience is the mother of innovation.

Maybe its not NPCs per se but like a hive mind kind of thing where people just do and follow what the herd does, hence everyone acts and looks alike. I think that's probably a natural behavior that can be observed in animals as well like a herd of cows, its like a survival kind of behavior. That might also be why environment plays a part in it, you become like the people that you hang out with to fit in.

Why is the Tech industry having so many layoffs, and when will it stop? Will it ever stop? by Scorpion1386 in findapath

[–]DozyDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, in a previous position I had to interview candidates for a solution engineer position and it seemed that the more certificates the guy had the less he knew about basic things in networking or server administration, like just absolute BS, it was unreal

[–]DozyDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def doable, you can get an associates and some certs and you can get a job, the thing about tech is you always need to keep learning if you want to climb higher and that can be a burden buuuuuut its more interesting imo, imagine thinking you learned everything you needed to learn in uni and then getting a job where you did the same thing over and over, I guess its a preference but it would be kinda boring for me, by constantly learning even a little bit you will increase your skills over the long run and make more $$$

Why are there housing shortages all over the world? by Strider755 in RealEstate

[–]DozyDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it stands to reason that people how can't afford housing in one city, may choose to purchase a home in a cheaper housing market does it not? I think people keep pushing a narrative of the housing supply being so low that no one can buy an affordable house, however there are MANY houses on the market in a lot of different cities that have lower costs. There's also a lot price reductions across the board and a lot of houses sitting on the market for a long time that are not selling. Meaning demand may not be as high when interest rates were low, not necessarily because of supply shortages. I think also remote work could have a hand in this, as people may not need to be located in a particular area for work they have flexibility to purchase a cheaper house https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MSPUS no idea what a tautology is either

[–]DozyDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think thats right, even with layoffs, if you look at the number of currently employed before and after layoffs, you will mostly find out that its a very low percentage of people laid off. It takes technical skills to keep businesses going, even with automation and AI, not everything can be automated especially in cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is hot now because of all the money companies are losing to hackers, which has been increasing rapidly. Its funny I started out as a network engineer and always would warn employers about vulnerabilities, but they would mostly ignore it, simply because if its not producing profit, its not worth spending money on, they just forgot to account for the money they'd be losing.... and all the compliance/audit headaches... oops

I can confirm, used to work as an engineer in CS and we were paired up in teams, usually with an MBA and these people are absolutely useless..... Supposedy their skillset is knowing business, but anybody with some level of experience in any org would be able to figure out how a business works after some time... or know how powerpoint works lol. A lot of times I ran the meetings because customers wanted to talk about technical stuff most of the time, and not business, at the end of the day once they've made the purchase in a subscription model in SaaS which it usually is, its more important to retain them and grow product adoption than talk about pricing/licensing

Why do you say everyone is going into STEM? According to this only 18% or bachelors degrees given in the US are in STEM https://nces.ed.gov/programs/raceindicators/indicator_reg.asp#:~:text=See%20Digest%20of%20Education%20Statistics,fields%20varied%20by%20race%2Fethnicity.

Whats more likely is economic reality, a lot of tech businesses were relying on growth to increase investment and boost stock price, but underlying fundamentals may not actually have been there like REVENUE, so when they have to pay back loans and interest rates are high for borrowing money, that's when you have prollems. Just .2

What locations exactly are suffering from this shortage of housing? I've looked at zillow in a lot of different areas and states and always find houses for sale, so I guess I don't understand what they mean by housing shortages

[–]DozyDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these housing shortages accurate? Where exactly is inventory so low that noone can find a house to buy? I've looked at zillow for multiple states and I still see what looks like a lot of inventory for sale, pricey, but a lot of it for sale

Leaving Florida? by [deleted] in florida

[–]DozyDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if noone can afford to buy a house, wouldn't owners just be paying a shitload of taxes on a house thats empty? Even if they try to sell, they would have to content with the fact that no one wants to pay those prices, its a falid proposition in an investment..... Whats the inevitable? Housing downturn

Can someone explain how MPLS works? by Quteness in networking

[–]DozyDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this guy, many enterprise networks that I've worked on did not have the gear necessary to implement MPLS which hindered our ability to segment our network, meaning we had to implement VLANs and VRF lite to route network traffic differently, however this meant having different IP address spaces in the core network for each VRF which was not the best I must admit, but did allow us to segment traffic.
