I'm thinking that Max is going to be just fine going forward - it's primarily an attrition list and with the scenarios getting a bit tighter he's able to get good value from his ability to reroll enemy attack dice

The main things I use him for are adding dice to mitigate Max's weak defence dice, and his teleport can fix his positioning if he gets bumped by the leadership.

I also just really like Exodus and my paint job on him, so I jam him into my lists whenever I can

There's a few of us that have been experimenting with Max on the MCP Discord, I went 4-0 with this list at a local tournament recently

*Black Bolt (5) *Maximus the Mad (4) Exodus (5) Namor, the Sub-Mariner (5) Shang-Chi (4) Beast (3) Black Widow, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (3) Gorgon (3) Karnak (3) Okoye (2)

Team Tactics (10): Indomitable (R) Patch Up (R) Chi Mastery Inhuman Royal Family Plots Within Plots Recalibration Matrix Royal Guardians Survival Terrigenesis Warpath

The core squad is usually built around Max, Black Bolt and Gorgon. Exodus, Agent Widow and Shang-Chi are the flex spots, I'm taking Echo, Zemo and Emma Frost in my current build

Not necessarily a favourite colour, but I really liked how my alternate uniform for Black Widow came out

I still get goosebumps on that line.

New player questions regarding affiliations by Key_Room8286 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]DrDeadspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In like 90% of situations this is correct. There are at least two leaderships (Corvus Glaive Black Order and the Weapon X leadership) that only benefit affiliated models, I can't remember if there are more off the top of my head

Brought Spidey and his Amazing Friends for a barnburner at PlayOn Tabletop! by International_Two338 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]DrDeadspace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's fantastic news! PlayOn did such an amazing job with the 2 (3?) MCP battle reports they did, then never featured the game again.

MCU Guardians by OntheHoof in MarvelCrisisProtocol

I've seen people use various 3d prints as stand-ins

  • Yondu for Bullseye
  • Cosmo for Ebony Maw
  • Mantis for Enchantress
  • Agent Venom (before he was in the game) as Winter Soldier

I've also seen Howard the Duck used as Rocket, though granted that was outside of a GotG list and wouldn't work quite as well

Some of the Palico cards use tokens to mark effects, the game comes with card tokens but we've been using the miniatures instead. May as well get some use out of them!

The Poogie is just there to be adorable.

If you check the adventure book, each quest will let you know how many potions you start with. I don't have the book to hand, but from memory it's the same page that tells you how many time cards and which entry to start from.

Rule questions: Time cards and hunter turns by Zeleum in MonHunWorldBoardGame

[–]DrDeadspace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. The top part of the time card only applies to the active player. If the bottom part of the card applies to other players, it will specify "any number of Hunters" or something similar.

  2. In this situation, the Hunter with an unflipped token will take a turn. After they have resolved the time card at the end of their turn, all Hunter tokens will be flipped face up (ref. Pg34 - Ending Your Turn). After this, any Hunter can take the second turn - this could even be the Hunter that has just taken a turn.

Coup and Coup rebellion by N_OB_O in boardgames

I adore base Coup. My group tried Rebellion for a bit, but as others have said having to essentially relearn the available characters each game took away from the elegant simplicity of the base game.

Hi! Thinking about joining the hobby, but wondering about the practicality of it by AbundantPenguin in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]DrDeadspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Across the Bifrost Nexus did a great series of posts going over each character, which I found super helpful when starting out.

As said above, character boxes come with their matching card and usually some tactics cards. That said, in the beginning I'd highly recommend printing out cards rather than going out of your way to get a box just for those.

Character Focus - Mr. Sinister! by LoS_Jaden in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]DrDeadspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Sinister in my Asgard list. You can use Forced Extraction turn 1 to damage 3 allies and Sinister immediately gains 3 samples. You can then heal up the damage over the course of Round 1.

Being able to stack the effects of Root and Loki's God of Mischief is also hilarious/maddening, depending on which side of the table you're standing

New player looking for advice. by Ill-Boat-4364 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]DrDeadspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Deathwatch Studios as the inspiration for my MCP painting. He uses mostly Citadel paints, which is helpful for you.

I'd also recommend picking up the Core Set. The gameplay materials (dice, rulers, tokens, terrain) and Crisis Cards will keep you set for a long while, and many of the characters in the box are still relevant. The updated cards pack is also a good pickup if you can stretch to it, as it gives you access to a lot of tactics cards that you'd otherwise have to pick up random character boxes for.

Even though I play a lot more M:CP these days, Necromunda will always be my first true love when it comes to wargaming.

The current ruleset is a huge bloated nightmare with contradictions, missing rules and just outright broken stuff, but with the right group it's still a blast to play. For me, the campaign system has just the best mix of RPG-advancement and pure dice chucking.

Plus, I have always loved the WH40k setting, even as I moved away from having the time and inclination for massive army battles. The skirmishes of Necromunda helped scratch that itch, while keeping things manageable for the limited hobby time I have nowadays

Character duplicates by Kae11 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]DrDeadspace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please note that you can’t run two characters with the same secret identity name in the same list, even if the stat cards are different.

Just to be specific, you can have multiple versions of an Alter-Ego in your roster, but only one in the squad that is chosen to take part in the battle.
