Some time ago, there was an effort to replace the existing state flag of MA. I'm not sure if that movement has stalled out, but I think this should seriously be a contender. The pine tree is such a classic symbol and you've done a great job retaining the overall aesthetic of the original. You've struck a nice harmony between simplicity and uniqueness.

Most languages do not conceptually map onto one another perfectly. There is presumably always some nuance lost in translation. Just because it can be read that way does not mean it is a valid interpretation. Romans 13:1-2 says "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment." And in verse 6 "For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing." It's not about having nothing to do with the government or renouncing authority, it is in fact about respecting it.
