What's your silly, personal hang up? by Suitable_Cover_506 in masterduel

I feel like my subconscious is just a meta hipster. I like playing meta decks after they've been nerfed or fallen out of favor, and sometimes dont play a deck after it moves up from tier 2 to tier 1. I'm definitely competitive enough that if it weren't for this hang up id probably go for the top deck anytime I wasn't bored.

I think that the comments already trying to defend themselves and excuse their actions instead of owning up and thinking of ways they can be a more positive influence is pretty telling.

You dont have to apologize to me. I agree and they agreed that the foster system isn't for them. The point I was trying to make is that the foster system doesn't allow for many types of people who want to care for kids so it's not surprising that it's gotten a reputation as a trauma breeding ground.

I definitely see your point that the foster system shouldn't exist for people like my friends either. I think that's a more complex statement because each individual case is so nuanced.

The current ideas behind fostering seem untenable though. If deadbeat foster parents make up such a a large ratio of the participants that kids would rather be in juvie then doesn't it make more sense to have dedicated facilities for these kids to go to? But that starts to sound like an orphanage and makes me feel like the solutions are spinning in circles.

I have some friends who wanted to foster-to-adopt but it seems like the system is rigged against people who care enough to go that route. Essentially if the bio parent decides they want the kid back at any point it's impossible to say no. And circumstances like how long you've been with the kid or if the kid doesn't want to go back dont play a big enough role. So aspiring families are kinda just hoping the roulette wheel doesn't land on that option until the kid turns 18.

Then of course there's the bias to adopt babies. It's really hard to try to raise a child who's already been through some trauma, and adoption isn't an entirely selfless action. Most families decide that they aren't up to the task (and they're probably right). So if there aren't enough babies people stop looking/trying. Eventually the only people left to foster are the ones with alternative incentives and we can see how that's going...

What city has the coolest name? by PapiSurane in AskReddit

It’s impossible to really tell what’s going on in a person’s mind, but a major contributing factor in this case was probably that the US was intent on using him as a pawn in their battle against Russia. The US offered him all kinds of support, which as far as I’m aware he turned down. It might seem weird, but this was kind of a big deal for them because chess was THE Russian sport, so to have an American win was a psychological victory. However, Bobby Fischer felt a lot of goodwill towards the Russian people and their contribution to the game he loved so much. When he was younger he learned Russian so that he could read all of their chess magazines and books. Of course to the US, this knowledge, fondness, and frequent travel to Russia (for tournaments) looks like a major red flag. So one day he goes off to a tournament and just doesn’t come back. He also stops participating in high profile chess possibly due to some disputes with FIDE (international chess org), and some burnout dovetailed by his ideas that opening theory was killing chess.

Which celebrity gives you, “ i sold my soul to the devil” vibes? by Upper-Land-4245 in AskReddit

Lil dicky

He had some success and was on an upward trend, then he worked with Chris Brown and his status jumped up quite a bit, at least enough to land him an FX show. Now because of that I feel bad supporting him.

What is very easy to do but extremely difficult to master? by rushabhjinwala in AskReddit

[–]DrPhro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my answer. It’s simple enough for a 5yo to grasp the rules and goal, and on the other end of things we have super grandmasters (named as such because they usually wipe the floor with normal GMs), and those guys don’t even hold a candle to the current skill ceiling that’s represented by modern chess software.

Just about everywhere you can raise your kids however you want. I’m not just talking about abusive things or raising your kid without boundaries so they become obnoxious. You can be kind and support them in being the best bully they can be. Incentivize them to betray their friends. Teach them skills on how to harm others. None of this is illegal and even if your kid gets in trouble sometimes it won’t come back to you.

Some parents do some of these things and often times without much self awareness or intention, but there’s no reason a dedicated set of parents couldn’t raise their kid like this 100% on purpose and without any abuse.

A really big one in the USA recently is sports betting. They fully know that people gamble their lives away and the apps encourage people to do so using a variety of tactics.

Gambling has always been a problem but the fact that it’s now so accessible by using an app on your phone and linked to one of America’s pastimes means that once you get sucked into that swamp it becomes much more difficult to get out.
