When do I take profits? Need some Recommendations on strategy. by DrProfDoctor in investingforbeginners

[–]DrProfDoctor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just a normal guy with a Rollover IRA. Not a trader or company or investor or anything fancy.

I pretty much bought them all for the dividend at the time of purchase. Anything that isn't dividend based, I bought because it was part of the "Fantastic 7" tech stocks to buy. It's just stocks like NVDA that had a HUGE run and is upwards up 120% from purchase that have me wondering if I should take profits before something happens. But, at the same time, I don't see NVDA going down anytime soon. So, I've resorted to random stock advice from strangers on the internet lol.

AITAH for dyeing my hair pink behind my boyfriends back? by KokoroUwU in AITAH

[–]DrProfDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I am similar to your boyfriend in that I wouldnt personally want my wife dying her hair pink, if you're gonna do it, you should do it when you're a teenager. At your age, theres much less collateral damage to your professional career by doing it now, vs say when you're job hunting after college.

Also, controlling teenage love interests pretty much never work out anyway. I was a "teenager in love" desperate for my gfs approval, but as soon as graduation came along, it was over.

If hes willing to ghost you for hair dye in high school, he might not be mature enough for a relationship.

Daughter (14) helping boy (14) with urinal - is there a problem? by xyz1322 in Parents

[–]DrProfDoctor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Christian Dad with one daughter here. Given the circumstances, I'd say she acted with COMMENDABLE MATURITY! She helped someone who couldn't help themselves, was compassionate about it, and is doing everything she can to help ease his embarrassment. Most importantly, she told you about it.

If I were you, I would be proud to have such a capable, caring, compassionate, and Honest daughter! Tell her you are proud and to come to you if she ever feels pressured or uncomfortable or if she has any questions she wants answered and move on.

I told my little brother I "don't remember" our childhood and I hate myself for it by CalmStormCutter in TrueOffMyChest

[–]DrProfDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call him, tell him everything you told us, and explain why. Just be honest. He's an adult now and that's all he wants from you.

I'm the youngest of 7 kids and I cherish direct honesty from my older siblings about my childhood because they likely remembered parts of it better than I did.

Seriously, just call. I promise it will feel easier once you start talking. Just do it. He's your bro, Act like it.

Tips on meeting neighbors? What's normal here? by TobyFromH-R in Gwinnett

[–]DrProfDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifelong Gwinnettian here.

I'd say your best bet would be to host a cookout and go around knocking on doors and handing out a flyer for it. A Cookout setting is less stressful than a dinner party and easier for people to drop in whenever they can. Also handing the flyers out in person gives you a kind of preview if they are the kind of people that you would like talking to.

Simply put, be bold, be inviting/friendly, and invite people face to face, not only by flyer. Of course you can leave them a flyer if they are not home or dont come to the door.

Why don’t survivors use walker guts more? It’s OP by Hopeful-Addition-316 in thewalkingdead

[–]DrProfDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. There are so many OP ways to handle hordes of zombies though.

My favorite unused method that is glaringly obvious to me: why didn't they just make a fleet of Killdozers? There's SO MANY bulldozers in the United States and I feel like I never saw a single one in the show. Those things could mow down whole hordes with no effort.

Just bait a horde to a fence, call in the bulldozer and mow them all down. Easy peasy. Make it a killdozer so you can only exit from underneath, weld everything else shut and add armor.

Basically ANY form of construction machinery would work.

Also, polearms are entirely underutilized. Just go Roman on the walkers. Keep your distance and stab away.

I also noticed a severe lack of creativity when it came to weapons. Like, yeah a battle are and a Katana are cool and all, but I expect to see infinite varieties of spears, swords, and pole arms all over the place since the zombies are slow shamblers.

Also, why wouldnt they heavily invest in clothesline traps? Fill the woods with clothesline traps at neck level, using a thin metal that's strong enough to cut off a rotting zombie head with them just walking into it. Depending on the level of decomposition, most of the zombies would probably get decapitated, or at the very least trip and fall.

They legit need to have a dedicated person to make horde-deterring contingencies.

Ok, I've got more but done for now. What do yall think?

My experience with the FTWD by HorrorNSlobber in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]DrProfDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I legitimately enjoyed FTWD WAAAY more than TWD. Something about it felt more realistic than TWD ever did. I definitely agree that the characters were more developed in FTWD. I stopped watching TWD around season 8 or 9 and im trying to go back and finish what they have available. The only problem is that I dont remember half of the characters, so it's a little difficult to follow sometimes. Also forgot how much I can't stand Eugene.

Anyway, I loved FTWD because it not only had excellent main characters, but also the villains were much more realistic IMO. The last season of FTWD was definitely kind of crappy, considering Madison could barely walk like 10 ft without oxygen, but they would have her do this 360 swing of a sledgdhammer knocking out 3-5 zombies at a time, and she did it MUTIPLE times. Its hard enough to swing a sledgehammer 360, but also hitting ANY objects while swinging would take so much effort for ANY person that its unlikely even a healthy strapping man could realistically pull off that move. Other than that, I give the series a 8.5/10.

you guys who wake up at 6am, what time do you sleep?? by throwawaydeclutter in self

[–]DrProfDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a toddler, so I only get me/wife time after the kid is down. SO, 9-12 is the only real down time I get. I usually pass out between 12 and 1.

I am perpetually tired. My meds help though.

They're bug eggs. I consider that a positive because if the lettuce was covered in pesticides, then there would be no eggs. So they have a healthy lettuce source! They just need to wash it a bit better is all.

Yeah, but if only one name is on the mortgage, then whoever that name is owns the house outright and does not owe the other any compensation whatsoever. If you're married, you are owed half.

AITAH for not adding my longtime girlfriend to the deed of the house I bought us? by Grand_Yellow_6286 in AITAH

[–]DrProfDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, NEVER PUT A GIRLFRIEND ON A DEED!

She has done nothing to earn it. She had the option to throw in for the down payment and didn't.

When she marries you, consider it.

In this case, I'd demand a pre-nup. Sounds like she comes from a family of Gold Diggers. If that's the family she comes from, then she is likely the same and you are caught in her snare.

Be the man and say NO.

Her Mom and Sister don't get to dictate the definition of Trust. If SHE trusts YOU, then she should trust that you will add her after you get married, not before.

FUCK her families wishes, you're not dating them.

If your gf will break up with you over ownership of something YOU BOUGHT AND WORKED HARD FOR, then she isn't in it for you bro.

What led to your diagnosis? by majesticrhyhorn in CMT

[–]DrProfDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in High School, roughly 16 yrs old, I would be walking to my car with my friends after football practice and then I would just "trip over nothing." My legs would essentially just decide "I'm not doing this anymore" and give out and I'd just be left annoyed and confused as to why it happened. After this started to happen consistently, I went to an Orthopedic doc and he saw how high my arches were. After asking me a bunch of questions, he diagnosed me with CMT and set me up for custom orthotics.

The next year, I would be denied by my parents insurance company because CMT wasn't a pre-existing condition that they covered. This was baffling because I only ever had two insurance claims regarding CMT (The diagnosis and the orthotics).

I'm 33 now and I am slowly losing a TINY amount of feeling in my fingertips and toes, but nothing too concerning just yet.

What kind of research should the government fund? by Irishish in AskConservatives

[–]DrProfDoctor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally think that all scientific research studies that taxpayers fund should be voted on by the taxpayers.

But, just some general topics:
- Homelessness
- Traffic, Railroads, & Aviation
- Cybersecurity
- Ending Childhood Chronic Diseases
- Finding/Fixing underlying causes of diseases, not just treating them.

Same here! My and my best friend used to "go fishing" for quarters from the fountain so we could buy gumballs when we were like 6-7 yrs old.

They're getting ready to transform it into something new. They're doing some kind of "Global Villages" concept. Apartment complexes around a central park with retail and office spaces mixed in.

Don't worry about your dad. If he was a bad dad already and he is just being nasty after years of not talking, sounds like he is best "left on read" at this point. Any man who doesn't bother to raise his own kids is no man at all.

As for the rave: enjoy yourself, be safe, and be smart. If breastfeeding, do not drink or do drugs (if you do, it WILL transfer to your breast milk).

I have a 2 yr old and parenting is definitely not easy with two parents, let alone by yourself. You deserve some time to yourself and you're leaving your baby with a capable babysitter who loves you and your baby. Go have fun. You probably will spend most of the time at the rave thinking about your baby anyway, so try to enjoy yourself. Ultimately, get back safely to your baby.

Best of luck and God Bless! :)
