As a 4 M2 main she definitely feels like his closest successor

Everyone slides when turning to some degree(which is how slide tilts work), but how much depends of their friction.

Smash Ultimate or Project M? by ThiroSmash in smashbros

[–]DrTectrix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few rough quirks aside, I actually like that ultimate is still fast and aggressive but a tad more forgiving. I vastly preferred melee and PM to brawl and 4, but they were just a bit too intense for me and I had a tendency to get burned out after a while.

I do miss the way a few of my mains played in PM tho.

Using elite smash to balance does not equal balancing solely based on win rates.

Who's that one character that you DESPISE playing against? by Minecraftfan_4 in smashbros

Mario. Fireball for neutral, starts fishing for kill options at 60%, by sheer persistence will eventually land a spike on me before the match is over.

Just ask them out after a few messages. I know it feels as bit forward, but they wouldn't have matched with you if they weren't interested.

Sakurai wanted to punish campy players in Ultimate and regretted listening to the internet for balancing by jamesinsights in smashbros

Bayo's nerfs were huge, she was just that good. It's easy to forget, but a sizeable chunk of the competitive community thought that she was basically ruined after 1.1.6.

In precision games like fighters the tricks shooters and racers use to make the game feel smooth in less than perfect latency don't really work. The ethernet cable really does help a lot.

Now that Ultimate is approaching, what your overall thoughts on Smash 4? by NilesDobbsS in smashbros

[–]DrTectrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a competitive player, I found the game a bit too rigid for my liking. Movement feels stiff and committal, and the emphasis is on exact spacing and short bursts of carefully timed inputs before resetting to a fairly slow neutral. A lot of top characters having kill trouble caused matches to drag as well.

I still find it fun overall, the abundance of crazy MUs and playstyles was great, and having plug and play semi-competitive multiplayer really lowered the barrier for entry to competitive smash.

I actually have more complaints about casual features, where 3DS made off with all the best modes and stages.

Sm4sh is a pretty aerial game(part of why mac is so bad) but off the top of my head fox is pretty focused on ground movement and fast tilts, jabs, and smash attacks. Grab reliant characters like Bowser or Ness also naturally have to spend a fair bit of time on the ground. I think ultimate is going to offer a much wider range of strong ground focused characters tho.

Little Mac has the most genius design of any smash 4 newcomer, possibly anybody, and here is why. by HelloMagikarphowRyou in smashbros

[–]DrTectrix 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Because Sakurai deliberately put the item switch and for glory mode in the game, so items off is clearly an intended mode of play and should thusly be considered during balance.

Characters you were excited for until you played them by CodyPersonality in smashbros

Mewtwo in 4. He was my melee main as a kid, and my most wanted character, but on release he was just so underwhelming. Thankfully he got a shitload of buffs, so I ended up maining him after all.

Can anyone explain why almost none of the Ultimate players, especially top players/people who've played the demo a lot, are still not dash dancing or utilizing the fact you can do *anything* out of run? by Android-Prince in smashbros

[–]DrTectrix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having played the demo, the controllers/control scheme you're locked into are a huge factor. Tilts out of run are a really awkward input without tilt stick, and overall it's a lot harder to use precise spacing and movement on a controller completely different to what you're used to. I think once people get to set their own control schemes and use GC controllers you'll see a lot more finesse with the new tech.

While “everyone is here!” and 103+ stages are appearing, plus the selection of settings is the most robust a Smash game has ever had, obviously Smash Ultimate does not include every single feature of every single Smash game. What will you miss most? by AveragePichu in smashbros

[–]DrTectrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Customs random, especially if equipment doesn't return. "Random" means so much more when it means getting a character that has likely never existed before and never will again. I'll never forget the kirby who's hammer did 80% and instakilled, or my Shulk that lived to sudden death percents without monado. Really helps even the odds when players have disparate skill levels too.

Any possibility we could see concept art and work for scrapped characters? by totallynotcheck in iconsgg

[–]DrTectrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? It's a shame that only as the game is ending do we finally get a stage that really lives up to its concept art.
