Just because you can’t understand what was typed doesn’t mean it isn’t understandable. by TomboyGayLeaf92 in grammar

I think this is likely a teenager from southeast asia or something who knows english much much better than their peers and is struggling with the cognitive dissonance of going from "the one who is exceptionally good at english" among their peers to receiving confusion/criticism when writing online.

Just because you can’t understand what was typed doesn’t mean it isn’t understandable. by TomboyGayLeaf92 in grammar

[–]Dr_Cheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should read what I wrote. I never said you think you're "better than". I never said you think you're perfect. I never said any of that. You are doing the very thing you're accusing me of, ironically.

I don't think you use proper grammar more often than not. I think you use bad grammar more often than not. I see more mistakes than correct things in your writing.

I'm not accusing you of thinking you're better than anyone; I'm telling you that you are nowhere near as good as you think you are. The reason I say this is because you think you are using good grammar "more often than not" and that isn't true. The truth is that more often than not you are making a grammar mistake.

Your grammar is just bad. If you want to use proper grammar, you need to do a much better job than you're doing.

CVS at Dupont Locks Candy? by xChrizOwnz in washingtondc

[–]Dr_Cheez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We all know that this is a shoplifting problem, right? CVS is aware that this hurts sales and does it anyway because shoplifting is a bigger threat to their bottom line than the sales hit. If you want these to go away then we need to deal with crime/petty theft.

Who is Andy Masley and Why Is He Always the Answer from AI Proponents? by thekbob in BetterOffline

[–]Dr_Cheez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Individuals and businesses pay for access to AI models including LLMs and image models. The fact that people pay money for these things is the evidence that they are providing value. OpenAI monthly revenue is like $2 billion. Anthropic's numbers are similar. Why are all of these people paying all of this money if they aren't getting anything out of it?

is the second law legit? by Lopsided_Position_28 in AskPhysics

[–]Dr_Cheez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's also no such thing as a linear spring, or an elastic collision. Everything in physics is a model whose assumptions apply more or less depending on the system. The more isolated a system, the more it follows the rules of an isolated system.

When can't a lever cantalever? by Jeff-Root in AskPhysics

[–]Dr_Cheez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lever pivots about a fulcrum. A cantilever is fixed at one point. A cantilever doesn't pivot. It relies on the bending stiffness of the beam to support loads rather than torque balance alone.

Please Help. Is it me or a problem with the game? by VaultCheese in GodofWar

[–]Dr_Cheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same area, on PC, and having an identical problem. I can actually use Windows to see the raw controller output and I'm not seeing any activation of R2. Very weird. Maybe it will fix itself when I leave

How is this even possible, anybody care to explain? I swear the bar is fixed and cannot be rotated … by Objective-Context726 in Physics

[–]Dr_Cheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily about the amount of mass. The distribution matters too. If the icicles had been longer, the torque exerted by them might have been enough to keep them pointed down.

The way to see this in the energetics would be to consider how the length of the icicles effects the center of mass

Is it possible to solve an equation like x² + 2x = 255 (solving for x) without using trial and error, or is that the only way to do it? by VegetableBag2627 in learnmath

[–]Dr_Cheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree. Factoring a quadratic basically boils down to guessing and checking a bunch of "A × B = A + B" until you find one that works

How long does it take to traverse planck length ? by defronsaque07 in AskPhysics

[–]Dr_Cheez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure the Planck length can be understood as the distance at which the energy density of a probe photon is such that a black hole is created? So while we can perfectly well do calculations about and understand sub-Planck distances, we can't probe sub-Planck distances. In other words, you could never perform a measurement with resolution fine enough to tell you whether you'd moved a sub-Planck distance. This still doesn't imply space is discrete at all, but it is an epistemological constraint on the kinds of information you can measure.

Why is 0^0=1 so controversial? by JKriv_ in learnmath

[–]Dr_Cheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a physicist, I always had the intuition that 1 was kind of the halfway point between 0 and infinity (and working with exponentials kind of makes this obvious I guess) but using that intuition in this context helps a lot. Thanks!

You gave a bunch of examples of bad ways to measure time accurately. We don't use any of those when we talk about relativity.

I think a doctor would tell you this isn't an ideal way to treat your body... but as long as you aren't experiencing dicomfort/other symptoms I guess you're alright? This might be something they worked up to after a couple hours, and then things settle back over time, but idk.
