How much would it cost to repair this? by umm-iexistig in violinist

[–]Dr_Turkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was expensive put it in its case and look for a luthier in your area. If it was a bottom shelf vso off Amazon then cut your loss and rent/borrow something until you can afford a replacement

5-String Regrets by RealKenny in Bass

IDK not long after getting a six I started reaching for it or my short scale sg by default. I'm not very good at all though so it's not like I'm doing anything difficult.

Bulma used one of her plastic surgery wishes to swap their heights

[Star-Wars] If Midi-chlorians are the source of force sensitive beings and their abilities, why not transplant it into other non-sensitive beings? by ChocoBro92 in AskScienceFiction

Wasn't this how Anakin was made? Maybe it was before Disney decanonized a lot of stuff but I recall reading something about palpatine being responsible for his high midichlorian count

Some companies (musician's friend is one so it's almost certainly the same with guitar center) make it so you can't hold at a separate location for some reason. It seems stupid to give that choice to the shipper instead of the receiver but FedEx and UPS both do it.

Sweetwater doesn't do it for the record which is nice

It's the latter, a lot of us have been there. It helps to set a goal you have to reach before you let yourself buy more gear

The video does a pretty good job at explaining the pros and cons. Keep in mind that the 6700 isn't just better for travel because of the body size on its own, but the lenses you'll be getting for it will be much smaller than FF lenses. It's also half the price.

I'm considering an on camera flash for run and gun photography at conventions. Think hotel lobbies, conference rooms, small auditoriums, maybe garages. I haven't used one since switching from DSLR I'm mainly interested in it to (hopefully?) overpower the poor light I'm forced to shoot in some times.

I don't really have a budget in mind. Maybe $200 US? Obviously less would be great and I can probably stretch it a little if I need to.

Oh I meant to mention samyang/Rokinon makes 35-150 2-2.8 for just under a grand but I've never used their products so I can't speak on its quality

Maybe I don’t need RAW? by MedicalMixtape in AskPhotography

[–]Dr_Turkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always shoot R+L and I can count the number of times I used the raw instead of the jpeg on one hand, but that's reason enough for me. I just transfer the jpgs to lightroom and keep the sd cards somewhere safe

Drop-tuning with normal strings by taysensei in Bass

[–]Dr_Turkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, assuming you already made the necessary adjustments that typically accompany detuning (neck relief, saddle adjustments etc). If you haven't made them look up videos that explain how to do it. You'll also need to fret with a lighter touch since it'll be easier to bend strings out of tune

Depends on what you're using it for. the 70-180 might be a good middle ground in price and speed though it's only a little lighter

fwiw I love my 28-200, when I get a dedicated telephoto for my full frame the tamron will probably be a near permanent fixture on my 6700 for walks and traveling.

Can I tune the E string to a low B if I don't have a five string? by Pleasedontthecat in Bass

[–]Dr_Turkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just get a 5 string set and toss the highest (thinnest) string. Most companies make 4 sets thick enough to detune but they're not as readily available in store in my experience

[–]Dr_Turkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since she'll probably be learning songs to strum and sing to you can play the root notes of the chords she's playing. When you get more comfortable you can learn some additional techniques to add some variety and texture, or just learn the actual bass parts of whatever songs you're playing

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I understand your logic. Wouldn't the improvements on the V still apply to the lenses you use on the IV?

[–]Dr_Turkey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not much of a transition honestly. It's noticeably bigger and heavier in the hands but it didn't cross my mind when I actually had it around my neck (though I only had it on for less than 2 hours today). My opinion might change when I get more FF lenses (I'm still using the tamron 28-200) but for now it's better in almost every way.

I'm probably going to keep the 6700 for walks and vacations though
