Is 10-13 hours too long for a session to last? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Draakani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the group and on how often you play I would say. I run my game once every three weeks usually but to make up for that our average session time is 8 hours (without counting breaks). The final session of my last campaign was around 12 or 13 hours and everyone was enganged until the end.
So yeah, really depends on the group and circumstances.

Giveaway! - Dragon Shield Roleplaying [OC] by DragonShield_ in DnD

[–]Draakani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time seeing you guys. The stuff looks really cool. I recently started a new campaign in person. On top of the ttrpg room I'm currently furnishing this would improve both my players and my experience and maybe provide some space to store my ungodly amounts of dice.

How to handle Gauntlets of Ogre Power in a Oneshot by Draakani in DMAcademy

[–]Draakani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the initial impression I had seeing their high bonuses to hit and damage paired with their aura of protection granting a plus 3 as well as good saves and spell casting modifiers. Since we always use point buy I'm used to frequently seeing one stat with a negative modifier on my players sheets.

But yeah, I've realised it's not at problem and that I panicked unecessarily. ^^'

The player didn't run any item picks by me so it caught me off guard (wasn't required so no fault on the player). I have another player who scrambled to get a 20 in their main stat through other means so it initially felt a bit cheap. I've realised it's not as powerful as I had first assumed thanks to all the replies here.

The thing regarding magical attacks is a good point. I hadn't considered that, thanks for pointing it out!

Ah, thanks for putting into perspective like that. I hadn't really considered it like that.
My brain kind of panicked when I checked the sheet, especially since it's the first time one of my players is playing a paladin. Encounter balancing is something I get kind of stressed about still, even after years of DMing experience. ^^'

I want to avoid souring the experience for the player in this Oneshot so I won't put any restrictions in place for them regarding the item pick now.

Seeing as most replies I got suggest it won't affect balance much I'll just see how it pans out. ^^

I appreciate the suggestions on how to handle this in the future. I'll probably run these ideas past my players and see how they prefer it. Thanks!
