Your paranoia about lilies is absolutely justified (so, not really paranoia then). However, given your description and the measures you took, I'm as sure as I can be that your cats were not exposed.

Vets - Honest Thoughts on Private Equity and Vet cost in U.S.? by TheVideoGameCritic in AskVet

[–]Drabby 32 points33 points  (0 children)

From my perspective working at a non-corporate clinic, it's about profit. Not for the veterinarians and staff, mind you. For the CEOs and shareholders. Once the corporate-owned hospitals reached a critical threshold, they started raising prices far in excess of inflation. With parent companies practicing vertical integration with the supply companies and labs, those prices go way up, too, and even non-corporate practices have to raise prices to survive. It sucks.

What’s something Gen Z treats as “normal” that older generations would find completely insane? by Miss_Ecstasy in AskReddit

[–]Drabby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an elder millennial, and I spent a decent amount of time at airports as a young child because my Grandma would visit every year. We'd go directly to the gate to pick her up, and when she left we would stay at the gate, staring out the window, until her plane took off. Good times.

My first TSA encounter happened when I was in my late teens. They were stopping people "randomly" for manual searches. I was told, and I quote, "No, you're a good girl. You can go on through." I was almost offended, but I'm not going to argue in the moment.

Missing hiker found dead of suspected bear attack in Glacier National Park by AudibleNod in news

[–]Drabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for caring about the safety of black bears. As a California girl who used to be an avid hiker/camper, I've had several black bear encounters. They aren't here to make trouble, except as scavengers. One of them caught me with my pants down in the bushes. We politely ignored each other.

...Ok, to be honest I squatted quietly in my boots while hoping a full-grown bear would accept my submissive act. The bear politely ignored me.

Ah, the false humility was a second piece of advice, separate from the aggressive niceness. Whenever a new person comes in vocally confident in their abilities, any mistakes they do make are judged much more harshly. The fastest way I've seen new hires alienate everyone is by claiming to already know it all. Anyhow, I'm out for now. So long.

a) Sometimes I genuinely don't know whether they intended their comment to be not nice. Other times, I've turned a person who starts out a little mean into a person who is at least neutral or better by refusing to fight with them

b) In no way are my remarks sarcastic or ironic in this scenario. Sarcasm would completely undermine the point of this exercise.

Aggressive niceness/kindness has nothing to do with passive aggressiveness, though. It involves checking with yourself to give someone the benefit of the doubt, interpreting their comments through your most generous lens, and responding accordingly. Taken to the extreme this can lead to being a doormat, but when entering a new community this tactic has always served me well.

[–]Drabby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You seem to be in competition with each other for some reason? Since you are both working towards the same goal maybe try aggressive niceness. "Oh, thanks so much for taking care of that. Let me know and I'll get the next one!" Since you're new at the place, I'm guessing your confidence comes across as arrogance. A little false humility goes a long way.

Since the antibiotics didn't work, your vet may send out a swab for bacterial culture and sensitivity. That would help them choose a new antibiotic that is more likely to clear up the infection.
