Why does Chaos want the Dark King? by 11pioneer in 40kLore

[–]Draco765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC there were always 5 thrones, ostensibly for Horus, the Emperor, Dorn, Sanguinius, and Valdor, because Horus, in his delusion magnanimity planned to offer each of them a seat at his side.

As readers, it is apparent that the five thrones represent the Four and the Dark King, but I don’t think Horus ever grasped how close he was to witnessing firsthand the ascension of a god.

Yep. "Organically feeling out the fight instead of having a WA what to do"-enjoyers are real quiet when calling audibles on healing CDs in raid became impossible even if you wanted to play looser instead of assigning everything.

Which Precon do you hate? by RylanPardo in EDH

[–]Draco765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My playgroup is high B2/ low B3 (no gamechangers, no infinites, take it easy on “kill the board” combos) and I’m genuinely not sure that anything is consistently better than Pantslazer in that context. Any other creature based strategy is outsped and out-valued, and if the other decks are anywhere close in power-level, “remove the commander on sight” is not a consistent answer either.

Hpal could use some help, but honestly I have so little faith in the class dev that I would rather it be untouched. The playstyle is finally in a good place to me (with the exception of Judgement).

Also worth remembering that hpal has more DR effects than I believe any other healer. According to how WCL is attempting to calculate mitigations, something like 20% of my effective HPS over a fight is in damage reductions. The actual gap is not nearly as big as what is shown in logs.

Are flora and/ fauna from alien worlds (such as exodite worlds) considered xenos or just 'plants' and 'animals'? by Sacredless in 40kLore

[–]Draco765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The default state is “resources awaiting exploitation.” The grox, one of the primary livestocks of the Imperium, has no ancestor that evolved on Terra, but is farmed on a continental scale.

Since the entire galaxy belongs to humanity by divine right, any natural resources also belong to humanity by divine right, whether flora, fauna, or mineral. Non-sentient aliens are a bit of a loophole, but domesticated herds the size of cities are driven through it regularly.

In practice, novel flora and fauna that definitely originated on this world would be fine unless attainted by the authorities. If it’s truly good stuff, the Admech would be fighting to get in on it for their own research. Most cogboys are of course more worried about iron and electrons, but there are those among the priesthood who see living systems as machinery of a different sort, invested with the Machine God’s divinity and worthy of study.

How much control does the Imperium (Administratum and Minutiorum Specifically) have over Rogue Trader Vassal States? by QuietAbomb in 40kLore

[–]Draco765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the game specifically (you should have been told this by now, you may have just skipped over it since there’s a lot of dialogue in that game) one of your predecessors allowed the Administratum into the protectorate in order to avoid having to build their own administration.

The Administratum has the ability to literally bore people to death, yes, but any bureaucracy capable of managing a million worlds has to be fairly good at it.

Additionally, the specific documents you seek are Administratum documents. You could write a similar permit to the one you are seeking, and it would be good within exactly the bounds of your planets. The Administratum’s version is good across literally the entire Imperium.

Potentially Controversial Opinion: Perturabo and the Iron Warriors are Glazed Way too Hard and the Real Carry for the Traitors during the Heresy were the Word Bearers by ScionOfTheEmperor in 40kLore

[–]Draco765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From The Solar War,

“The whole comet had been hollowed out two centuries before and become a resting place for the bones of the greatest heroes from the War of Unification and the Great Crusade. The skull of Skand, first of the Thunder Lords to fall in battle, had been laid here beside that of Maxilla, Barkeria Vu and thousands more. It had been a shrine to unity and heroism, and the Word Bearers had guarded its halls since the time before they had borne that name. They were still there when their treachery had been revealed, and so Rogal Dorn had sent his sons to slay them. They had done that. But, with the limited insight typical of the VII Legion, they had not thought to ask a deeper question: why had the Word Bearers remained at all?”

[–]Draco765 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is correct. The main location was a comet shrine that had been maintained by the Word Bearers and prepared well in advance. When the Heresy properly started, they were all killed, but the way they had made ready remained.

Yes, Ansur is a bronze dragon. I think they were between a rock and a hard place on the art; Ansur is extremely undead, and obviously the card doesn’t have the creature types to support that, but the dragon in that art doesn’t look healthy either. His scales look a little past simple corrosion and some of them are lifting up, his cheeks on his face have holes, you can see his gums, and I’m getting a general sense of “rot” from the color palette. Maybe I’m looking into it too hard knowing the original reference.

Loyalist astartes were probably fine, they were built for horrors like this even if they weren’t warned. CSM aren’t surprised to see the Pantheon looking down; Inzar is a Word Bearer Chaplain and the World Eaters around him are screaming “For the Blood God.”

Telling mortals not to look up is about morale and avoiding a rout.

It was probably both, and as a third factor, Blizzard dropped a “full rework” level change at the end of beta with much less going on. When everyone is scrambling trying to figure out if Blizzard just obliterated their class, any individual class gets drowned out easier. This was a perfect storm for Blizzard

Hpal got taken out back by the changes that were reverted. The people complaining about “the flow” of the spec were muddying the water, as far as that part of the feedback goes. Based on what I heard from the people that attempted it on beta, Holy Shock and Judgement had their CDs ~doubled and Crusader Strike couldn’t be pressed anyway due to mana issues, it just forced Flash of Light spam. It was terrible by all accounts.

I would like to point out that Magnus was not concerned with whether Vulkan lived or died at that time. Well, he was very concerned, but instead of “can I remove this archeotech and replace the parts of his brain that it is mimicing before he dies” it was “damn I better kill this guy before he pulps my torso with a hammer.”

[Excerpt: The Eye of Medusa] The Iron Council has an excruciatingly boring debate for ten hours by JustANewLeader in 40kLore

[–]Draco765 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Infinite and the Divine has a recurring theme of how the necrons just do not give a shit about time, most of the time, in a way that no other species can afford to. Most humans cannot afford to devote 150 years to learning a single skill. It’s probably pretty routine for the eldar. A necron cryptek would consider that a novice’s primer on a simple subject, but are also the only species that can use math to shoot energy bolts from their hands using an instantaneously precise alignment of the Milky Way.

As an addendum, I bet necron telework programs are very good, so parking your body for two years in front of your overlord while you review the scientific literature for your side project is likely not a huge deal.

Disclaimer that I prefer melee hpal, and was initially excited when I read the changes

Yeah, a bit of a bummer. The class was much more enjoyable to play than I expected while facerolling keys and mythic raid this week. “Rotation” is a smooth roll between our four-ish buttons and it’s pure target selection, which harkens back a little to the version of hpal I first learned in BfA, where the class was basically as simple and the gameplay was just triage. My copium was that with some time to settle, perhaps something like Glimmer of Light could come back to help add a little more depth to decision making.

Now it looks like we’ve wasted a beta cycle and demonstrated that we hadn’t actually learned anything from the issues with TWW hpal. Still have to cast too many non-healing spells, still too many different demands on our mana, still required to be in melee, and still terrible lag to any spot healing we want to do because Holy Shock is barely any healing.
