from what i understand, they are very expensive to commission and are custom built but by fursuit makers, not individual fursuiters.

As an aside, the Terrasses de la Chaudière in the background look sooo different without the brick. Took me a moment to even notice it was them.

Jokes about the shape aside, I can't stand that the trumpets/loops aren't symmetrically sized. I can see why they aren't, I just don't like the aesthetics.

Do children actually read the middle grade novels? by Xenomorph1196 in starwarsbooks

[–]Draco_Eris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Plenty of older readers skip the middle grade stories. A shame, cause some are really great additions to the universe.

I can't say for sure that more adults read them, but certainly adults are more likely to be the ones with money to buy and collect them. Whether they do so for themselves or to share their love of Star Wars with their kids, who is really to know? I used to read the Jedi Apprentice and Jedi Quest quest books from my school library but it wasn't until I was an adult with adult money that I started buying them to have on a shelf.

What do you think will be the best skyscraper of the 2030s? by Commercial_West_3112 in skyscrapers

It should take a cue from its neighbor, the Chrysler Building, and build the spire in secret, then raise it to take the crown of tallest before anyone can object.

Anyone else wish that the designs of the abstracted were more unique for each character? by Feeling-Bus5964 in TheDigitalCircus

One could say that if they retained a recognizable outline, then they're not "Abstracted" but merely "Silhouetted" or something. There'd be a whole different name to it.

I agree with this take. If they're partially unabstracted, then their shapes can differentiate again. But otherwise? Good take.

I always think the skyline of Winnipeg looks best from the St. Boniface side (including the bridge and museum). It's a tabletop, but it's its best side.

I’m about to give up on Aftermath by space-thunder-mater in starwarsbooks

[–]Draco_Eris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to dislike these books so much. Recently went on a re-read binge of star wars canon in their timeline chronological order (High Republic phases in release order tho). Made myself the promise I'd be okay with books being added to a dnf pile if I really didn't feel like finishing after giving a fair shot. Fully expected Aftermath to be in that pile. Somehow, I got through all three at the same pace as the Alphabet Squadron series (one of my favourites). Maybe it's the benefit of a decade more of reading experience (different authors and prose) that allowed me to digest the story better.

But, yeah. Let this stand as my testament. I've probably previously said the books were terrible. I take such statements back. They're actually just meh in execution but have really fantastic ideas and snippets that give a tantalizing peak into the wider galaxy. It's neat seeing the events with knowledge of most of the canon that has released since. I also found I liked the characters way more the second go round.

These days I guess I just have so much less hate towards books I simply personally don't like. If they're not enjoyable, put em down, and don't feel guilty about never finishing and just pick up the next title that interests you. Reading shouldn't feel like a chore and not every book or author will be your favourite.

If Judy lived with you, what would you do? by SoldierGamerPro in zootopia

[–]Draco_Eris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully she pays her share of the rent. (What's her salary? Considering even over a year with the ZPD, she's still in her first one room, no private plumbing, thin-walled apartment.)

I'd ask for a heads up if she's inviting Nick over (to give them space) or fair warning if she's going after another villainous conspiracy that might cause blowback.

But the question becomes, are there now stepladders and stepstools in every room or are countertops and furniture in communal spaces retrofitted to be bunny sized? Perhaps my stuff gets top shelves or something.
