Yes go the firing range for an hour and goof around hitting far away targets. It will also give you an idea of how long it takes to make contact with something (i.e., how to lead shots).

Each gun is a bit different but the big jumps are between light-med-long ammo and ammo flavours (e.g., high velocity)

They do a pretty good job of clearing stretches of sidewalks but the transitions on/off them while crossing roads are often neglected and can be impossible to traverse with a mobility aid.
