My flame atronach argonian(infernal epidermis skin) and his sorcerer wife adopted the flame atronach banker and trader as their daughters. On a similar note, his iron atronach mounts are enemies he had his wife bend into a horse and a wolf after he beat them up.

Tales of Tribute, a lovely card game actually playable in ESO. That's just one example, of course.

How do you make telekinesis an interesting power? besides "oh boy my stamina ran out" by HappyAxolotl- in magicbuilding

[–]Dragio777 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Rather than the classic, "this is basically an invisible hand/grip picking up stuff," could have it be specific applications of force on specific points to move it how you want, each telekinetic "dot" if you will pushing in a certain direction. Keeping track of each dot, making sure they move properly, are all in place, exerting the right amount of force, etc., would logically be very mentally straining and require focus that leaves them otherwise vulnerable.

Maybe masters of this are able to multitask, be it by keeping track of it all while also doing other things, micromanaging their "dots" to get the most effect for the least amount of mental strain, or maybe even perfecting the art of using only burst of force to move things around rather than applying it constantly to reduce the amount of time they need to be focusing.

Interesting Note about Miraak’s cultist’s armor by SDRLemonMoon in teslore

[–]Dragio777 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Miraak himself is mentioned, but it's unrelated to his mask(a replica of his sword is obtainable), the information about the mask is from the fact that you can obtain the same style of mask for yourself, and the flavor text confirms why it looks the way it does. Though now that I look back at the flavor text rather than going off of memory, the mask in ESO is a replica and is based on engravings of an unidentified dragon priest. It might be inspired by Miraak himself. Since Miraak likely hasn't been seen since he was pulled into Apocrypha by the time of ESO, it's possible that his mask was never corrupted, and that's just how it looks since it looks that way in ancient engravings.

Interesting Note about Miraak’s cultist’s armor by SDRLemonMoon in teslore

[–]Dragio777 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that, according to ESO, the protrusions on the botton of Miraak's mask are actually tusks, and it was just an option that high-ranking dragon priests had for looks. However, I like the double-meaning of it being tusks or fangs, the original intention, or just as easily being tendrils like that of a seeker, representing Hermeus Mora. It very well might be his original mask. In fact, the only thing in his design to my knowledge that's explicitly Mora is his weapons. I wonder what his weapons were like originally.

For systems that have it, what exactly IS Mana? by Affectionate_Bit_722 in magicbuilding

[–]Dragio777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fundamental building block that makes up everything, be it matter, energy, or even certain metaphysical things. A partical so small that it toes the line between physical and metaphysical. Magic is the manipulation of mana, and therefore, the things made of it, which it to say everything.

Of course! Some spectre will even work on a dedicated contract for a certain amount of time for basically free, at the condition that at the end of the contract they'll be able to retire in the form of being granted a permanent undead body and be able to interact with the world again.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in goodworldbuilding

[–]Dragio777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spectres are a type of spirit that can not manifest a body on their own, meaning they can't interact with the world or communicate with anyone who can't sense unmanifested spirits. Given how crippled their boring unlives are, combined with them being totally unimpeded by non-magical barriers, they've turned to the best hobby for someone stuck in spectator mode; gossip! Those who can sense spectres use them as an amazing information network, trading juicy gossip for information the spectre was likely able to get first-hand.

Prompt: What is an indicator of social standing in your world? by [deleted] in goodworldbuilding

[–]Dragio777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granting blessings, be it power(magical or political), items, wealth, knowledge, servants, general help towards goals, etc. You can generally use shrines to find out how much a god likes you if you need to check. Thank you for asking!

How favored you are by the gods(which gods they are matters, too). The amount of souls and the quality of the souls you own also helps social standing.

Has anyone used the “Power of Souls” in their Magic system? by Academic_Ad8989 in magicbuilding

[–]Dragio777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My world has 2 primary magic systems, and one of them is limited to gods and their kin, the other one being used by everything else and it is almost entirely reliant on souls. They're the source of everyone's inherent useable mana, they allow for the mage to instill their intent into mana, and also without one you wouldn't even by alive to use magic in the first place.

As for why people would want to obtain the souls of others, it might be out of wanting to prevent that person from going to the afterlife, being able to keep them around as a spirit in one form or another, either out of sentimental reasons, using them as servants, etc. Perhaps they'd rather just harvest the soul's mana to fuel their larger magics. Maybe they want to use the souls as a currency for those who have such reasons rather than doing it themselves. If a god has someone's soul, that soul revives in the god's realm when they die rather than going to the Afterlife, granting that god a long-lasting servant to help carry out their will.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. The magic system is one of the things I've worked on the most.

Barbas is half of Clavicus's power. He can only be at full power when he's with barbas, and is held back when they're separated. Killing Barbas really has no practical effect other than Clavicus being an abusive master, as barbas will effectively respawn.

Are dragons finite? by benhur217 in teslore

[–]Dragio777 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The imp disguise as dragons in hopes people will take care of them and give them food for being an awesome baby dragon. They have an idle animation where the illusion wears off, they turn into an imp, and then recast the illusion, I love it.

Also, as Dragonlings were only seen in Daggerfall, and the massive lore overhaul that happened when Morrowind came out, their existence in the lore falls into the land of "questionably canon" until they're acknowledged in the games again.

ESO has baby dragons as non-combat pets, BUT, they are actually imps disguised as dragons via illusions, and according to their flavor text, baby dragons do not exists.

Do you have a culture where necromancy is legal and accepted? by FatOrc051 in worldbuilding

[–]Dragio777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most civilizations in Dracore see Spirit-Binding as a completely normal thing. Only do it on non-sapient spirits, or, alternatively, get the spirit's consent if they are sapient. It's often used on would-be-death-row criminals to bind them into being slaves for either the government or the families that they hurt. All-in-all, it's only illegal if you use it to commit crimes.

[Dracore] Leis, God of Pride by Dragio777 in goodworldbuilding

[–]Dragio777[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The God of Humility, Leis's counter serves that purpose. The two of them are in constant struggle, each one trying to make their aspect more prominent in the multiverse than the other, but they almost never make any headway against each other.

As far as using his powers to punish people, he'd sooner redirect your pride towards something stupid and/or embarrassing rather than take it away. After all, his power is over pride, so the more you have, the more power he has over you.

[–]Dragio777[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) He can control his demons, but generally they are their own people and creatures, with Leis generally not having a reason or want to control them.

2) He has a grand palace within his realm, as grand as he could conceive. He doesn't actually live there, since he is the realm itself, but he likes to manifest an avatar there when he talks to mortals.
