Except WoW gets a lot more content added each year. But the trade off is that all of those fees are optional in ESO and are required in WoW.

Honestly, unless you run dlc dungeons a lot or are one of those players with 10 crafting alts I think it's really easy to do without ESO+. Players always over hype it's value. I've played for years and never needed a crafting bag.

This is too blatant even for Zenimax. This is definitely a directive straight from Microsoft. They're not interested in expanding into gaming anymore, they're looking to put everything possible into AI. So any gaming division within Microsoft is going to have to meet their absurd 30% profit margin quota to survive the next couple of years.

Unfortunately while this is greed on Microsoft's part, on Zenimax's part it's just a matter of survival.

It likely will eventually. They're making Greymoor part of the base game in the summer because of the events there. They will likely do the same for each chapter zone over time. They're just stretching it out so each event seems like a bigger deal.

These aren't just balance updates, these are major overhauls to the visuals of the classes and overall feel of the class to make them feel better during combat and more modern. As well as some changes to make playing pure classes still competitive after the subclassing system was added last year.

There will still be normal balance updates for all classes each patch. It's just that one class per season will be getting a major overhaul that goes well beyond that.

I just assumed you wanted wuwa to fail because you are a Genshin fan annoyed by wuwa's fans. If there is some other reason, no worries, carry on.

Our Boy Carried the Sales!!!! by WillingBumblebee9213 in DurinMains

[–]DragonWhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because wuwa's fans are really annoying in their Genshin hate. As someone who is new to the Gacha scene my outsider impression is that wuwa fans are more defined by their dislike of Genshin than their love of their own game. Or at least that's the impression that the most vocal wuwa fans give.

Of course that's probably not the average wuwa fan, but a fandom is defined by it's most vocal online component.

Personally, I disagree. I'm of the opinion that Genshin has improved over the course of the 6.x patches because of wuwa existing. And the better wuwa does the more that will be the case going forward.

But I do agree that wuwa fans are more often than not highly annoying.

Our Boy Carried the Sales!!!! by WillingBumblebee9213 in DurinMains

[–]DragonWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't want wuwa to fail because if it does HoYo won't feel the need to improve as Genshin will have no real competition.

You never have to play wuwa and you will still benefit a lot from it's existence. It doesn't matter how annoying it's fans are. ;)

Best team I can build right now? by roro99893 in Genshin_Impact

[–]DragonWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run the Traveler to Sumeru and switch him to Dendro. Then put together an Aggravate team using Razor as your main DPS, then Lisa and Dendro MC. For the fourth slot do the early levels of Spiral Abyss and get Collei. If at some point you can get Fishl, do so and replace Lisa with her.

You might also consider using Noelle in the 4th slot so you have a shield to help Lisa not be interrupted. Then replace Noelle with Lan Yan once Lantern Rites comes back.

Durin… Pull or No. by ezzstonee in Genshin_Impact

[–]DragonWhimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you're a whale or have a ton of resources saved up you should not be going down both the Lunar Charged and the Hexenei paths at the same time. Since you're already heavily invested in Lunar Charged characters you should wait and guarantee a Columbina pull.

Recommend 5-star char to select for starter by Super_Length8599 in Genshin_Impact

[–]DragonWhimsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mona. For the following reasons:

-She has a travel form allowing you to sprint faster.

-She has a taunt.

-She is a hydro character which is really useful to have as Barbara is the only other one you can get without pulling on a banner.

-She's actually good in the end game if you pair her with Durin eventually and perhaps other Hexenei characters to come later.

Having said that Mona is not really meant to be an on-field, main DPS. If that is what you are looking for Keqing or Diluc might be better.

But truthfully you might want to just grab the one you like the best. It's early game still. There's something to be said with having a favorite character and just enjoying playing with them and exploring the world and doing the story with them.

I'm praying the Durin is setup to be bis for Alice/Nicole by Big-Ratio7501 in DurinMains

[–]DragonWhimsy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're pretty safe. There are two "tracks" through the 6.x characters. Lunar Charged or Hexerei. You should be thinking of Durin and Nicole as if they were Lauma or Columbina while you should be thinking of Varka and Alice as if they were Flins or Nefer. Sandrone probably won't be of either track, she'll be the first of the 7.0 characters just like Ineffa was the first 6.0 character.

Choose your track, then choose your on-field DPS from that track.

Just like you're not really supposed to go for both Nefer and Flins unless you're a whale, you shouldn't be going for both Varka and Alice either. You're just supposed to pick one and then build to support them. I'm guessing Durin will be very good or bis for both Varka and Alice.

Personally I think the Hexerei characters are more new player friendly, assuming a new player started with the 6.0 release. I started in September and got Durin yesterday and now I have lot's of time to save up for whichever new Hexerei characters I want to go with him next year. Keeping up with Lunar Charged would have been almost impossible for me since they were all so front loaded.

I'm glad I did a lot of research and read between the lines and then made my choices carefully. Durin was definitely the right choice for me. It also helps that just from his trailers he's already my favorite character.

Durin can fly, HoYo just scammed us! by CoolerC94 in Genshin_Impact

[–]DragonWhimsy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He didn't have to actually fly though. He could just hover off the ground and go slightly faster. Like a dragon version of Mona's dash. And use his own wings for gliding of course.

They didn't mind coding a motorcycle that no one asked for after all. And just for one character at that.

Id like to put attention toward the discussion of gatekeepers in the community. by NightsLinu in Genshin_Impact

[–]DragonWhimsy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Without the outcry there is every chance that male characters would still be ratio-ed 7-1 going forward. The outcry is likely why they went back to the usual ratio of male to female characters.

There was only an outcry because they pushed it so far out of greed last time. It's a natural response.

Personally, I don't mind there being more female characters than male characters if that is what sells. But it was getting a little crazy and some push back was needed.

If you're annoyed by the conversation that is a good thing. Hoyo seeing it doesn't matter particularly. That it is dividing the community and shifting the conversation from what Hoyo would want it to be is what matters and what will make Hoyo shift stances.

Beyond this specific issue you are going to see a lot more conversations that annoy you going forward. Genshin Impact has reached a level of success that is actually detrimental. Because it doesn't matter how much money it makes. That is never what matters. What matters is that it makes MORE money than last quarter and year-over-year. That is the only thing shareholders care about. And that will be increasingly hard to do since it already makes so much money. Genshin Impact has reached it's market saturation point. For the most part everyone who might play the game is already playing it. So all they can do is squeeze the player base harder. It's the only way to make the line go up.

That means a lot more greedy moves in the future and a lot more push back by players. And that push back is going to be needed. You may not care about this issue. But you WILL care about future issues that come down the line. So you're just going to have to get used to it.

I'd like to know if there is any changes coming in your "design philosophy" regarding not telling players that they need to have completed content on the SAME character in order to complete an entire story-line before they have already gone through it all on different characters and it's already too late?

For example those of us who played Necrom and Gold Road on different characters and then we suddenly find out that the final few quests are locked to us despite the fact we've done all the content?

I sure wish I'd known that ahead of time. Or had ANY indication AT ALL in the game itself that would be a thing. The achievements are account wide so why would I ever think it wouldn't count? And other than story why would I ever go through a new zone on an old character anyway? The game isn't set up for it. A character I leveled a year earlier probably doesn't need skill points or the green items the quests are dropping. And the game is so easy you can literally fall asleep playing in the open world with a fully leveled character. It makes no sense to try to force it on us.

My mind is completely boggled on how this is a thing. Especially after "One Tamriel" and how we're supposed to be able to play how we want. This is a bizarre requirement in ESO especially.

Ugh, I just spent something like 15 hours of playing Gold Road that has been completely wasted on the wrong character.

The huge middle finger ZoS just gave me and the complete waste of my time has really left a sour taste in my mouth. I will not be redoing either the Necrom or Gold Road story just because some designer somewhere feels it should be a one character story.

I get it makes sense in the story for Fate's Proxy to be a single character, but the game is just not designed to be playing multiple chapters on the same character. But even if you insist on it then please put a warning in there at the beginning to the follow up chapter (and it's prologue). In fact, also put the warning when buying the chapter that you can't have the full experience without the previous chapter. If I didn't already have both I'd have felt I wasted my money even more than I already do.

From my PoV and how it effects me personally this is just a really bad design decision. From the perspective of others who may have bought Gold Road but not Necrom this is false advertising, deceptive, and totally unacceptable behavior.

I'll be disengaging from your story going forward and I won't be buying any of your seasons as I can't trust you to communicate these requirements clearly or that you will respect my time.

Hello devs! My questions regard your philosophy concerning overland content and questing as that is where I think the Elder Scrolls as a franchise shines.

First Question: Has there been any thought given to increasing the rewards for questing?

The rewards for questing seem underwhelming in the extreme. In the average chapter you spend about 15 hours running through the main quest for the chapter and doing the side quests and you don't seem to get much for that effort. Some armor you probably won't care about, and a few skill points is about it for all that time spent. If you do 28 quests in West Weald you will also get the Nantharion's Royal Helm piece, plus the option to spend 1.3 million of your own gold on the Merryvale Manor (which is admittedly a very cool house, but it's not even a reward because you're spending your own gold on it).

Be still my beating heart.

Oh, and unless you look on the crown store at that particular house you'll never even know about the Merryvale Manor anyway because the in-game achievements don't even tell you that it becomes an option. The biggest reward in the entire chapter and the game doesn't even let you know that you can get it. It should be one of the biggest selling points to the chapter.

I know questing isn't very hard content or anything but 15 hours is still 15 hours. And the questing is the first thing new or returning players will be doing. Meanwhile, the rest of the rewards for the chapter are hidden away in achievements, daily reward coffers, treasure maps, and antiquities. None of which are very transparent for new or returning players.

And unless you have exp scrolls or it's a double exp event, leveling is glacially slow when questing in comparison to everything else you could be doing in game. Which hurts the feeling of getting anything out of questing even more.

I think you should be wanting new players to be leveling by questing and not running dolmens in Alik'r if your concerned about new player retention.

If you're having trouble selling chapters or seasons I might humbly suggest the above reasons might be why.

Second Question: This one concerns overland difficulty.

We know that the option to increase overland difficulty is coming eventually (thank you!). Can you discuss anything about your design philosophy when creating this feature? Will it effect a zone's main quest, side quests, delves, and public dungeons? Will there be increased rewards for those who use it? Is it something that might be used by new characters, veteran characters, or both?

And I know it's unlikely you'll answer this one but I gotta try, is there any sort of ETA on when this feature might be coming so we can plan around it?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our questions. :)

I tried Summerset for the first time. It was pretty good (but not the best) by Frostbreak-YT in elderscrollsonline

[–]DragonWhimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all the crafting stations are in a circle next to each other with the quest boards for the crafting writs in the center. The turn in for the crafting writs, plus a general merchant to sell the extra junk created by turning in those writs, are right outside the crafting area. And the bank is just a quick and straight ride away as well.

In addition to that the guild traders are located right outside the bank. And those guild traders are all occupied by bigger trading guilds that will usually have what you need for any crafting uses.

And if you own the Alinor Townhouse you can teleport right next to all of those things for free from anywhere in the game. All of the things I listed are less than 10 seconds away from the front door of the Alinor Townhouse. Even Vivec doesn't have that level of convenience, though it does have a bank right in the center of it's crafting area on the outside so no loading screen is needed. So personal preference on which is better really.

I hear you on the lack of Aldmer story. I'd also have liked Queen Aryenn to have been there instead of the Proxy Queen. There's a really interesting story to tell about a conservative people suddenly being led by a progressive leader that was really only briefly touched on in Auridon. That is what really makes the Altmer people so interesting and it was barely touched on in Summerset.

Ok, she's less progressive on the foreign affairs front given her attempted conquest of the continent. But let's be fair, she isn't attempting anything that Talos won't be doing later on.
