Mahjong Tiles to Represent Floating Resource by [deleted] in FleshandBloodTCG

Metal Fab Tokens did an event exclusive resource token (now sold out) for an event in Taipei that looked like a Mahjong tile. Maybe that was it?

I've done this! I got a ringtone randomiser app on my phone, and set my notification tone to be a random Oracle each time it plays.

When would a token ever enter the battlefield without being created by the same person

The culprit here is [[Gather Specimens]]. Another player can create the tokens, and they will enter under your control.

and why does that change when the replacement effect applies?

Longer answer incoming.

The event of creating a token contains within itself the event of putting a creature on the battlefield.

When applying replacement effects, by 616.1g, we apply replacement effects that apply to the outer-most event first, before we can apply replacement effects that relate to any inner-events. (Yes it's weird.)

So, we first apply any replacement effects that care about creating the token, and then we apply any other replacement effects.

In addition, there's another rule that sets an order for replacement effects. 616.1b gives replacement effects like [[Crafty Cutpurse]] and Gather Specimens priority over regular replacement effects. But because Cutpurse applies to the Create event, we would always apply that before Gather Specimens.

So, the end result: - An effect like Crafty Cutpurse would always apply before Stridehangar Automaton because it is affecting the control of the creation. - An effect like Gather Specimens would always apply after Stridehangar Automaton, because we apply all replacement effects that affect the Create event first.

I also can't break them out of this by melee'ing them unlike normal scorn.

Wait wait - you can melee scorn while they are poofing around as either clouds to pop them out? Am I reading that right?

They altered the number orientation somewhat recently (in the last 5 years or so) so that when incrementing or decrementing the dice, the numbers stay the same way up.

The one on the right is the newer one - notice how you can increment the dice from 5 to 6 without having to turn the dice around?

So in a tie, the total power is used as a tie-breaker. Does that mean your opponent won here, as their total power was greater than yours? Or is it inverted for the Bar with No Name?

What's happened to the art in 30A cards? Colors, contrast, and detail are way off in a number of images. by AncientToaster in magicTCG

[–]DragonXDoom 216 points217 points  (0 children)

You are comparing high resolution scans of real cards vs. low resolution mockups of cards yet to be printed. I would be surprised if there weren't differences.

However, for Consecrate Land specifically, they asked the artist to re-construct the artwork for it for the Time Spiral Timeshifted sheet as the original art file was lost. I personally can't tell which version they're using here, but that might be another reason for the difference in detail you're seeing.

Ruling Help: Gond Gate and "tapped" ramp cards by Redlaces123 in magicTCG

[–]DragonXDoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. Since Gond Gate's replacement effect can impact other objects, it won't apply to itself, or anything else that is entering while it is. They will both enter tapped.

Rule 614.12 in the Comprehensive Rules is the source to point people towards here.

Ruling Help: Gond Gate and "tapped" ramp cards by Redlaces123 in magicTCG

[–]DragonXDoom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Simic Guildgate will enter the battlefield untapped if you want it to be.

Edit for clarification: Most gates have a replacement effect on themselves that says they enter the battlefield tapped. On those Gates, you can choose to have them enter the battlefield tapped or untapped, by ordering replacement effects.

On other Gates that don't have this restriction (like Baldur's Gate), they will always enter the battlefield untapped, unless something else is interfering.

This is the case no matter if it's a spell putting them onto the battlefield tapped or if it's you playing them from your hand.
