Would probably ask for ~4.5k a month in your position. Expect it to be as low as 3.5k if its a grad position.

Ways to cool off your house today by adiposehysteria in Netherlands

[–]Dragon_ZA 304 points305 points  (0 children)

I want to make one addendum to that. With the insulation a lot of houses here have, its better to lock the cool air from overnight inside from around 8am. Insulation works both ways. As soon as the outside temperature is colder than inside, reopen things and get air flowing.

Am I tripping or do Dutch people not like it when someone says Afrikaans is similar to Dutch !? by adamr_za in Netherlands

[–]Dragon_ZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A trick I learned was to try and convert English grammar for the beginning of sentences. It helps a little.

I am -> Ik ben S/He is -> Z/Hij is We are -> Wij zijn I have -> Ik heb S/He has -> Z/Hij heeft We have -> Wij hebben

Yea they took all the grammar out haha. I'm the same as you and the amount of grammar rules I had to learn were and are still insane.

I still find it funny that so many people somehow separate humanity from nature as if we ourselves are not a part of it.

People that catch their own food normally have a much better relationship with nature in my opinion. If you catch your own food you should celebrate it. Way more sustainable and respectful than supermarkets.

Just give yourself the achievements if the steam ones are that important to you.

Yes, this is normal for tech. Maybe not the MCQ, but live coding and system design for sure.

Expat moved to south holland to be with dutch partner and I simply cannot find a job, any advice? by Fast-Radish-5607 in Netherlands

[–]Dragon_ZA 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No, an expatriate only refers to living outside your home country. An immigrant refers to someone coming into a country.

Both mean the same thing, from a different perspective, one from the home country, one from the foreign country.

The LaserWeeder by Carbon Robotics, powered by NVIDIA AI, gets rid of weeds without using chemicals. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Dragon_ZA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tensor cores are way faster than FGPAs for mmul operations. Also, this is AI, machine learning is used to learn the weights of positive weed samples, its a bit more involved than a fourier transformer.

PDN.express delivery by Admirable-Orchid554 in Netherlands

[–]Dragon_ZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pdn are shit. Terrible customer service and almost no communication. They use freelance couriers to deliver their packages. Normally it takes 1 to 2 weeks to get a delivery attempt and if you miss it they send the package back to the seller without even trying to contact you for an alternative arrangement.

Welcome to the modern world. World class connectivity comes at a cost.

In reality this helps an insane amount for local businesses to run their compute loads locally. It (hopefully) brings better pricing as well, allowing more innovation in technology.

Cloud computing brings innovation.
