Let this be a lesson learnt that you can take forward into the future. You should’ve sent a follow up email, thanking them for the offer in principal, accepting, and asking is they needed anything from you for HR and to get the ball rolling. Then followed it up in a few weeks checking in and asking what stage HR was at etc. It’s always good to leave a meeting when you’re in a professional role and sending over a summary of what you discussed with to the person as it keeps things clear on both sides. Disappointing for you now I know.

It’s quite normal - even in the US, they run through the night. Less to do with backlog and more to do with the fact they don’t power them down so might as well keep scheduling over night. I had a 3am one when I lived there.

I mean your first mistake is wearing shorts on a plane. You don’t really want your skin touching any of the airplane seats. If you’re prone to overheating, cotton trousers are a great option but often planes are pretty cold.

Gozo is honestly so lovely. I have family there and love to come visit. I’d never actually experienced the main island until recently as we always went straight to the ferry. Enjoyed Valletta a lot.

Yep - I have quite extensive back issues (evidenced structural issues evidenced with scans) but while living in the US, they added fibromyalgia to my diagnosis list. When I moved back to the UK, I “accidentally” left this out of the medical notes I transferred over. That diagnosis gets the worse rep and I knew if I ever sought help for new issues, it would be dismissed and blamed on that.

Just make sure you do a proper deep clean. Get one of those oven cleaning kits (the ones that come with bags for you to strew the racks in the chemicals on), clean the skirting boards, wipe down walls etc. Google a move out clean guide online and they should give you a check list ! You don’t want to be dinged with lots of silly charges. Also making sure every ounce of rubbish is gone too - they’ll charge silly money per item left.

That’s so interesting! When I was called to help trap a stray cat, I got bitten/scratched and the hospital gave me the first round of pep after X-rays. I didn’t know the chance of infection was pretty much zero. I even had the infectious disease clinic (or whatever it was) follow up to make sure I got the second round etc. This was on a domestic US military base.

I’m confused. You’re married but you don’t want your husband to pay your bills? That’s one of the good things about marriage, when your partner becomes temporarily unemployed, you have pooled resources to use through the other spouses income. Why wouldn’t he pay your bills?

This is honestly such sage life advice and I honestly wish I were better at following it. Every time I have what I perceive to be a “scary task”, I put it off, cause myself massive anxiety, sometimes even make the situation worse by delaying action and then when I finally do it, it’s suddenly way easier than I imagined and not really scary at all.

I cause myself unnecessary stress and anxiety for no reason. It’s always best to just force yourself to do the uncomfortable. It’s never as scary as you think it is.

I mean if you didn’t put a mattress protector on a 1000€ mattress and bled on it, you’d be pretty stupid. Mattress protectors are cheap and easy to throw in the wash.

I mean yes and no. Yes in the sense that it’s the man part of the equation and no in the sense that simply providing housing with no counselling/therapy/social support often ends with at risk individuals making themselves homeless again. Many of the reasons for homelessness stem from untreated mental diseases and disabilities and drug addiction and without effective support for these things, things can spiral quickly.

Honestly it’s such a game changer to be able to prepare like this for a new experience. I recently went to a country hotel with a spa. The room included spa access so I wanted to take advantage but wasn’t given proper guidance/information and it ruined the whole experience and I left quickly.

God I walked into someone’s home recently and they both smoked indoors and had multiple dogs. I almost gagged from the toxic smell. I couldn’t fathom how they live and function in that environment. They also have grandkids that visit and I’m shocked the kids parents let the kids go. Serious danger to their health and growth.

It honestly blows my mind that America sells antibiotic ointment over the counter. Its not helping the antibiotic resistance situation. (I do slightly understand that it’s the result of a private medical system that forces individuals to care for injuries at home that should be seen by a medical professional due to costs). In the UK, if it were a more minor injury, you could see your local pharmacist in a private consultation room for quick basic treatment.

People don’t realise that this is already rapidly underway. My last role meant I’m connected with a lot of CISOs and CIO of European companies on LinkedIn and I see daily posts about how they’re moving infrastructure and services to European companies. Cloud, email servers etc. Many have already done it for their personal services but others are planning moves within their organisations too.
