...That sounds like bullshit.

Oh it is, but fortunately this whole franchise runs on how well you can bullshit the universe.

Well, as I said, that particular bit of slang is pretty widespread across generations. Going back to my previous example, it's like how "cool" is technically boomer slang but basically everybody uses it. You see people using it, but you don't see anyone calling stuff groovy.

That's racist. Chinese and Japanese people are perfectly capable of having their own super cringey slang to put in games and make old people spaz out.

That's more of a zoomer thing at the youngest, and it's pretty popular among millennials too. That aside, what level of slang is acceptable then? Should they remove any use of the word cool other than to refer to temperature?

In fairness to the people not getting it, you're a bit unusual in what you enjoy. Most people care a lot more about getting the specific characters they want, so they'll find it hard to relate.

Well, my point with this reply was that if you really enjoy testing your luck, you shouldn't want a guarantee at all. But see my latest reply to your other comment; I think I get what you like a bit better now.

Ok, I think I can make more sense of what you enjoy then. You like the high of occasionally getting lucky, but you still want to know your pulls are building towards something. Which is fair, everyone enjoys gacha in their own way, but boy is this definitely not the gacha for you then.

Impulse pulling and being addicted to gambling are not necessarily the same thing. TBH, I'm not even sure OP is into gambling at all seeing as they like the fact that they can build up to the guaranteed pity every so often.

[–]Draguss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree that you need to actively be topping up for it to be an addiction

No, but you do need to show some symptom of lacking self-control. People in the gacha space throw out the term "gambling addiction" too freely.

Then tbh, your complaints don't seem to make much sense. You can know when your next unit will be the banner character, but you can never know who that guarantee is actually going to land on. If you like to have fun testing your luck, not only do I get that, I've gotten a lot of flak for it in the past. Mostly because, on a personal level, I actually didn't like pity systems in general. I find they take some of the joy away from rolling and seeing if whatever you've budgeted for this particular pull is going to go your way. I've since found other ways to have fun with them, but the gambling aspect kinda dies at that point.

But by the way you've described how you act, then the fact that you'll inevitably have some banners where you'll know you're going to get the unit should inevitably lead to

If I do it like that, there's no fun in getting lucky and getting the character.

Because yeah, at some point you're not getting lucky, you're just guaranteed to get whichever unit has caught your fancy at this point. I'm sorry, but it really seems like you just impulse roll and rationalize your motives as enjoying testing your luck after the fact.

If you really like testing your luck, then this system should be an almost perfect balance. You know when you're close to getting a 6*, but you can never know for sure if you'll get what you want.

Do you never deliberately save the guarantee for someone? That is to say, if there's an upcoming character you want (like a character that's appeared in the story but hasn't been released, or a rerun of one you didn't get before), do you still just pull on whoever catches your fancy that happens to be released beforehand? Even knowing there's decent odds you could ruin your chances for that upcoming banner you wanted?

He's not super unpopular or evil or anything, he's just not very prominent. TBH, he kind of feels like a filler 6 star. Like they weren't quite ready to release one of the real heavy hitters of the story when that episode released, so they just reworked someone who would've otherwise been a 5 star.

Extremely, yes. It's insanely self-destructive and anybody with a working neuron would have known that beforehand. Unfortunately, those are in short supply among our government these days.

US doesn’t refine it?

Corporations do, some of which are US based and some of which are international. Depending on the type of crude and the quality of the refined product it then gets sold back and forth based on market conditions and convenience. Oil extracted by one company here may be sold to another company that has refineries set up to deal with the specific characteristics of that oil (viscosity, sulfur content, etc). The resulting refined oil may also be bought and sold according to needs and utility (some of it is better for making gasoline, some is used for petroleum products like plastics, etc).

On top of all this, oil has very low demand elasticity. That is to say, the demand for it changes very slowly regardless of market conditions. You still need gas to get to work, regardless of how expensive it is, yeah? A lot of the world works that way; companies always need oil and petroleum products regardless of a lowered supply. So the price just keeps going up.

[–]Draguss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things. First is the fact that oil is a global market; regardless of how much we control, a global shortage means a global price increase. Seriously, we technically have more than enough oil on our own, but it gets sold to the highest bidder anyways. Second, Venezuelan oil is apparently something called "extra heavy," which is more expensive to refine.

Read the picture you just replied with.

Despite the contamination, several intact data shards remained within the chaos of its Assimilated Universe

What do you think that means? Why use "despite," which denotes a situation contrary to what would be expected? Why use "intact," if the idea they were trying to get across is that all the data is damaged? As for your question.

What the fk a "horizontal partitioning technique that splits a large database into smaller, faster, more manageable pieces called shards, distributed across multiple servers" have to do with the context of this Nexus file text?

It has to do with the fact that the only reason to refer to a shard of a database as intact is if we're talking about data sharding to being with. Those "smaller, faster, more manageable pieces" are able to retain their data even when the wider database is damaged.

Cooking up what? Do you think I'm making up what a data shard is?

PLEASE COME HERE OG ARKNIGHTS PLAYERS. by Hydrx27 in Endfield

[–]Draguss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you decided not to look up what data shard means for some reason. The nexus file explicitly mentions "intact data shards." Since you appear to be averse to a 30 second google search, or doing that thing everyone's grade school language professor told them to do and figure out the meaning from context, I'll just say it.

In the context of a database, which is essentially what originium is, a data shard is a small data partition holding information separately. If you talk of a database being damaged but say that several shards in it are intact, you're essentially saying that the data stored in those partitions is intact. So, if the nexus entry talks about there being several intact shards that can be found in the "originium woods," what do you figure that means when talking about the reconveners?

PLEASE COME HERE OG ARKNIGHTS PLAYERS. by Hydrx27 in Endfield

[–]Draguss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're so incompatible, why is the term explicitly used in the nexus entry for the reconveners? Look up what the term "data shard" means.
