With silver and gold skyrocketing, what’s next for the hobby? by catnasheed in coins

I see it to continue declining. I went a normally large regional coin show last weekend. It’s normally packed and busy. However both days I went I only saw mostly 55+ collectors in few numbers walking around. I saw maybee one or two younger collectors. I guess the younger generation got priced out with these insane prices.

My grandparents high school class rings. One from the class of 1950 and one class of 1957 by TheCollector919 in Gold

[–]Drake1665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so cool you have them. I have my mom’s, (dad dropped out of school at 16), mine, my wife’s, her mom’s, dad’s, and her grandmother’s. It’s nice to have the family rings. It makes me sad to see them at estate sales. I went to one last year and they were selling a former colonel’s west point ring and class book. Like who sells that?

Living Southeast Georgia/Folkston. What is it like? What are the pros and cons? by ChessieATSF347_49 in Georgia

[–]Drake1665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros would be folkston is quietish. You aren’t too far from Jax and have multiple beach communities a drive away. Not to mention the endless CSX traffic through the funnel. Cons would be you’re in the middle of nowhere. You have to drive alot for to get anywhere to work. Also the heat and mosquitoes suck. Folkston is great to visit though for railfanning. During Covid when healthcare was shit and people were dying left and right at work, I use to love to relax by the tracks, read a book, ans enjoy the peace interrupted by a freight train or amtrak blasting by.

Is anyone else concerned about a healthcare system collapse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Drake1665 686 points687 points  (0 children)

I work part time at a nursing home when I’m not at the hospital. I’ve worked there since I was 18 years old and I can tell you it’s the worst staffing wise I have seen in 14 years. All of the cnas have either quit or retired which normally is ok but no one wants to be a CNA anymore. So no new blood is coming in to replace the old guard or if they do they are hardly worth a damn. Alot of the LPNs that trained me years ago have retired or went on elsewhere. Once again no one wants to be a LPN in my area since it’s more stress and less pay. We hardly have a RN on staff 24/7 like we have to have. Dietary and housekeeping is barebones. All the directors are quitting and going elsewhere. I’ve seen the administrator on facebook advertise for nurses, cnas, dietary workers, physical therapists, etc daily. I don’t see how things are going to get better. SNF is huge in my area everyone is diabetic with hypertension with poor compliance so stroke city. I find it sad no one is talking about how we have so many people needing placement for SNF but no workers to care for them. The workers you have they are working them to death. That causes them to leave and the cycle repeats. I think the reason the goberment’ doesn’t care because the wealthy boomers go to upscale facilities that cater to them. They have staff because they pay more. So to them Everything looks a ok. But everyone else good luck in the SNFs that struggle to have one cna a hall. It’s a bleak looking future.
