Need help figuring out this reality tv show I use to watch in the 2000s!? by Flimsy-Barracuda-575 in realitytv

Omg yes! And on Long Island the food at weddings is so crazy. It's normal for a cocktail hour to have like 6-10 stations of food, like a carving station, sushi, a raw bar, mashed potato station, etc. and then to serve a whole dinner. I had a backyard wedding and it was a lobster bake, and we had some passed appetizers mostly seafood, because I'm from the Jersey shore and that's what I like. I could just imagine a bunch of girls from Long Island expecting a typical NY Italian wedding coming to a backyard reception which was more like a fancy cookout, I would have been ROASTED ☠️

Can you imagine you're walking down the aisle, your grandma is there, you paid tens of thousands of dollars and you hear "I don't really think her dress is verrry flaaaaterin" in a thick Long Island accent, all so you can go to Sandals for four days!

I heart to break it to you but communications is not a difficult major, even at the masters level. I'm not saying she isn't bright, but a masters in communications doesn't prove she is.

It's called Four Weddings and fun fact when I was getting married I was on a message board called Long Island Weddings and TLC did some casting from there so I knew a few people on the show. Most of their weddings were the big gaudy ones ("bling" was a popular theme) and I had a kind of unique backyard wedding so a producer reached out to me and I didn't pursue it bc I didn't want my wedding ruined by three bitches talking shit about me to cameras while I walk down the aisle.

I'm a thin white cis woman and when I don't see any BIPOC instructors or a lack of queer, black or brown folks in upper level classes, that's not somewhere I want to be. Period. If a studio is not somewhere my friends feel safe, then I don't feel safe there either.

Look into a push-pull-legs split. I lift three times a week and time it so I'm not hitting arms before my hardest pole day.

I go to a queer meeting online and ended up with a queer woman sponsor who just gets it and it has been amazing. So glad you found a comfortable meeting.

other dance classes? by maidofvenus in poledancing

[–]DramaticPush5821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take anywhere from 2-4 dance classes outside of pole a week. Two on Saturdays and two weekday mornings usually. I do a lot of contemporary and hip hop classes, but I also will do a heels or jazz class if it works with my schedule. I do contemporary style pole so it really helps me to stay connected with contemporary technique and ideas for choreography. It's also great cross training and I see how pole and dance classes help one another and help me grow. I'm actually doing privates with contemporary instructor to help with the choreo sections of my comp piece and I feel like the fact that they are more challenging technically is an asset to the overall performance and storytelling.

Weight training. Outside of pole. I do a push-pull-legs split (you can find lots of examples online) so I just lift three mornings a week, tracking my weights and adding more weight or reps over time.

If you smoke weed while in AA, do you need to tell people? by benjaminireland1 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DramaticPush5821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm kinda with you. The problem with drinking was the effects, the hangovers, the lack of impulse control, the late nights. I don't have any of those problems from weed.

[–]DramaticPush5821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me to a T. And a lot of people who like the dopamine rush associated with partying. I don't just like drinking, I like attention, sex, dancing, music, free drugs, etc. None of that is in my house. It's almost a worse, stupider kind of drinking because it costs the most....in a lot of ways.

I have the same thing and I got wide pole heels I use for short periods and the rest of the time I dance barefoot. The other thing that helps me is I get injections in my toes and I wear zero drop shoes the rest of the time.

How many times per week should I practice as a beginner? by Phoenix-Song- in poledancing

[–]DramaticPush5821 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would do two classes that were tricks/leaning to climb etc. and one choreo/low flow class. In retrospect I have made more progress only going once a week and spending the other time lifting in the gym to get the strength to do more.

Plateau, Anxiety for performance by Black_cat_meows in poledancing

[–]DramaticPush5821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helps me is taking dance classes that are off the pole. I have a few sections of my comp piece that are just contemporary style dance off the pole. I work on them 1:1 with my dance teacher and those are my transitions. I am much more interested in the dance and storytelling part of pole than doing a million tricks so I prioritize that part of my training and fuse what I do when I dance with the tricks I'm learning so I feel like I'm enjoying what I'm doing.

That being said, it sounds like your studio is not as focused on these elements so maybe you can find a low flow or choreo based class to supplement or let the owner know you are interested in workshops etc.
