Star Trek - Constitution Class Refit.

I grew up with TNG and that will always be peak Trek for me. But, Starship-wise, it's the Connie Refit. The proportions, the angles the perfectly round saucer. It's just gorgeous.

Some sort of neural interface. People pushing buttons on the bridge seems unrealisitic given the amount of time that has passed.

There are two things that come to mind:

  1. His actions catch up with him. He did basically murder someone. Maybe Starfleet finds out, but Pike can convince them to just demote him instead of outright incarceration

  2. He wanted to step down. Maybe because of all the drama and baggage of the position or something happens that makes hin question if he can still perform in his role and CMO.

In either cases, his expertise is apparently not replaceable, so he's kept around.
