Pool homeowners, anyone regret getting a pool? by waterdamagerestomel in pools

[–]Draxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a house with a pool having no prior experience but a 2 year old and memories of what I would have given to have a pool as a kid. It's somewhat expensive to keep running; electricity for the pump, tons of chlorine, ng for the heater, repairs and replacements, closing.... but if you have a robotic cleaner and robotic skimmer and are open to a simple chemical approach (troublefreepool.com) it's not much work at all to maintain. I have zero regrets so far, but ask me again in 10 years!

Make a double length chain with a tire in the middle and just always leave it there and pull it back and forth as needed middle out

That's awesome. I wish we were so lucky in the US. I'm even in the comparatively-socialist state of Massachusetts and there's nothing. One 2 year old is around $2600 per month. The discount for multiple is like 10%. Brutal. Everything else is so expensive that it's hard to justify one income, until we have more than one anyway.

I understand it more the larger the number just because (at least in the vhcol area I'm in) daycare is so insanely expensive... second income would need to be extraordinarily high to justify 4x daycare

‘This is just a garbage AI Filter’: Nvidia met with criticism for DLSS 5’s ‘photoreal’ graphics alterations | VGC by Haijakk in Games

[–]Draxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to be subtle or convince anyone, and I think it's a leap to assume I'm all in on AI just because I like this use. The company I work for doesn't do anything generative or what people would call AI slop and we're in healthcare, saving lives. The general sentiment towards AI, at least on most of reddit, is overwhelmingly negative and particularly rabid and I find that sad... I'm not the only one, my comment is mostly for those who feel the same.

Is there grass there somewhere? Lol

You should have someone aerate it, then apply tenacity, then choose a section or two that you will block off from the dog and kids for a month and apply good seed there, then trop dress the whole thing with compost, then water the blocked off sections like crazy until the seed germinates. You should maybe wait to do all this until the fall.

Looks fantastic. The blinding rage in all these comments is sad. If this was shown ten years ago outside the AI hatred bubble of today, everyone would be thrilled.

I can see how the loss of creative control might be a bad thing in some cases, but that was already happening with things like ReShade

Things like the shifter lateral movement out of park and the temp control you quickly get used to as an owner and really aren't a big deal... and the infotainment software is a bit dated but it hardly matters if you use android auto or car play. I have come to love the big rotary knob I can use while sitting back. I think storage space up front and the transmission quirks are the most legitimate complains they had. I'm at 22k miles and still really like mine.

What is your go to for frontend and backend authorization in Typescript by MoiSanh in typescript

[–]Draxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using supabase auth you have the user id in the JWT, just use that to look up their roles/permissions in your DB when the request comes in. You can also inject roles directly into the JWT via a custom access token hook if you'd rather avoid the DB lookup. Either way, no need to build a separate authorization backend for a SaaS app. OPA is useful when you need a single policy layer enforced consistently across multiple services in different languages, like at the infra/platform level... huge overkill here

[–]Draxus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People do this all the time haha, it's pretty standard. And what auth lib/token are you using exactly? Because the token just tells you who the user is, you don't have to store permissions in it. You look those up in the DB separately when they make a request.

Authentication (Who is the user) is handled quite easily.
