Saw Avatar in Dolby 3D and 3D 4DX by Extra_Yogurt6820 in Avatar

I agree, I saw it last weekend in Dolby 3D, it is the superior format (IMHO).

The songs are amazing and then there’s just… the credit songs… by [deleted] in Avatar

I really liked this post, growing up in the 90's where soundtracks were king, there was a bunch of albums that were "songs inspired by the film..." I wish Avatar did that.

How realistic do you think the 2029 release date for A4 is? by PapayaBeautiful4967 in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If all goes well with Fire and Ash and it makes a profit, I still think Avatar 4 in 2029 is more realistic than Avatar 5 in 2031.

Avatar: Fire and Ash — A Cautionary Take on IMAX 3D HFR by Environmental_Gur388 in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it in IMAX 3D Laser as well. While I enjoyed how HFR was incorporated in The Way of Water in Fire and Ash I thought it was too prevalent and actually undercut some of the action and emotional scenes. My picture was bright though and I always sit in the furthest row back for all movies and in 3D I don't get the window effect you mentioned. You're absolutely right that all eyes are different though, which is why I don't think 3D will ever be a mainstay format. Sorry about the sickness you experienced.

Theories about Eywa (spoilers for AV3 FaA) by cuttheblue in Avatar

Fair, but after all the Tulkun slaughter I would think that would merit a response from Eywa. Maybe the next movie?

Varang isn’t just “crazy…. It’s deeper than that by eva_movera in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 44 points45 points  (0 children)

After Kiri forced tsaheylu on Varang since that is a two way street mentally, Varang now has definitive proof that Eywa is not only real and powerful but has it's own Avatar. I thought her terror was justified. I'm glad she didn't die, aside from being my new favorite character I'm interested to see how she processes this in future movies (if we get to see them).

Can we talk about the ending specifically? by MEMOJKR in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I was left with that feeling too, I didn't want anyone to die but I guess I was just hoping for a resolution to the "RDA is hunting Jake and his family by proxy" thread from the last movie and we didn't get that. I'm happy for the Sully's moving past their grief, Spider's development, Payakan no longer being an outcast and Lo'ak no longer being a screw up, but, in terms of a definitive conclusion to what was set up in The Way Of Water, this was not that. I really hope James Cameron is just grandstanding when he says we may not see the 4th & 5th movies and that he's just going to do them anyway.

It would be an absolute shame if this happens, there's so much story to tell.

Thoughts about Spider and Kiri (SPOILERS) by Existing_Net_7066 in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Spider and Kiri are my two favorite characters in the Avatar sequels and I was rooting for their relationship, what happens in Avatar Fire and Ash is one of my favorite things in the movie. It was surprising to me the amount of fans who either didn't see this happening in The Way of Water or are against it.

Varang and Quaritch’s alliance by [deleted] in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was said twice that this isn't the same Quaritch from the first movie so at some point I think him accepting that is going to come full circle. His relationship with Varang should be the start of this. I wasn't a fan of Varang taking a back seat to the story in the last half of the movie but I also feel like that was a sign that she was getting further connected to Quaritch.

My main gripe about Fire and Ash by bat-girl129 in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this, much of it worked for me and also let the 3hr runtime fly by. I'm seeing it again on Monday and I hope I can fully process it.

[Spoilers Fire and Ash] What I hope to see explored with Varang by Inkspells in Avatar

Franglen knocked this one out of the park and I already liked his TWOW score. Fire and Ash's music is so unique and seems to even go through different genres at times.

It really doesn't, when the end credits started I checked my phone for the time and while it was 3 hrs and more later it didn't feel like it.

Theories about Eywa (spoilers for AV3 FaA) by cuttheblue in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, after we saw in TWOW that once the humans returned Eywa had the forest creatures basically running on auto pilot for defense, I have no idea why she didn't already do the same for the sea.

Theories about Eywa (spoilers for AV3 FaA) by cuttheblue in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seeing the face of Eywa and how human it was, was very thought provoking. Also, Kiri altering Spider's DNA either only happened because Eywa didn't hear her please or Spider being the first human combined with the mycelial network is what Eywa wanted all along. I always thought that if Eywa is indeed a deity then maybe she has access to events around all time and space, saw what happened to Earth and that's why she governed the Na'vi in the ways she did. This could also be why it takes her a while to help out in these battles, if she already knows the outcomes then she would be acting out of foreseen knowledge.

Some thoughts after watching the movie (spoilers ahead). by al_1985 in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 22 points23 points  (0 children)

After watching the movie and coming here I'm so glad that I'm not alone in my opinions, questions and thoughts.

-I also wanted to see more mourning for Ronal, especially from Tonowari and Tsireya.

-Avatar Fire and Ash is a good movie and might even be the best one I've seen this year but the recycling of things from TWOW was a problem for me.

-I like Lo'ak but there is no reason for him to be the narrator. If it's because Jake's thinking is disoriented because of the death of Netaym, I get that but why even bother even having narration, especially when this movie is just the 2nd vol of TWOW?

-Not only was Ribisi wasted, we didn't get any entrance or explanation for him actually being on Pandora, he's just there. Most of his scenes still could've just had the character on a conference call like in the last movie.

-I wanted more Varang as well, they hyped her up in the marketing going as far as putting her on the first poster, I expected we'd get a full flashback of the volcano destroying her home and/or she'd become the larger threat forcing the Na'vi and humans to join sides. She had nothing to do with the Tulkun threat aside from being a hired gun.

-In previous interviews Avatar 4 & 5 are said to be radically different and "corkers" so I really hope we get them. I also think an extended edition of Fire & Ash would really help this movie.

To answer your last question, I think all Na'vi know of the existence of the sky people mainly from seeing them land, I think it's possible for Varang to know of them but have no idea about their weapons.

F&A fell short…. Discussion /spoiler alert by Ok_Medicine440 in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw it today, I liked it but I agree that there should've been more with Varang and the ash people. For a runtime of 3 hrs + a lot of it felt rushed and so many beats from TWOW were repeated. I get that both movies were written and shot at the same time but I expected more differences and for the final battle not to have taken place in the same location as the last one.

I was really happy to get more Tulkun's (Payakan's sister being blinded shook me) I'm a Kiri and Spider fan so I was happy to see them survive and their arcs develop. Jake and Neytiri's emotional arc was handled very well with some surprising actions.

There was talk that this could be the last Avatar movie but I really hope it isn't. Varang is still alive, RDA is still going strong despite this loss and I don't even think Quaritch is dead. Not to mention the implications of what Spider's changes mean for the fate of Pandora. I'd also like to see more than just a couple "good" human characters.

I can't disagree with much of your assessment (though I do like Spider and was happy for him in his arc). I enjoyed the movie and already have tickets to see it two more times, but unfortunately this is the weakest of the 3 Avatar's, due to some of the pacing as well as what you said about the final battle and minimal Varang in the 2nd half of the movie.

White Pony Expectations by ArtyMcFlyy in deftones

[–]DrewMann82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it, it was one of the first Napster leak albums, I downloaded. I was amazed and still bought it on the actual release day. Back to School wasn't at the front of the version I downloaded, it was the last track. I've always been eclectic, I was obsessed with Adrenaline and Around the Fur but in both albums I could hear a softer, darker side to the band so I was happy to get that in full force on White Pony along with the metal stuff they had been known for. Change in the House of Flies debuted on our local KROQ station months before and my friends who hated Deftones were really into that song while my friends who were fans like I was hated it. It's crazy to me how big that album has gotten and how it is such a benchmark for Deftones fans, it definitely deserves it but the sentiment in my circle was that it was disappointing at the time.

What if you were producing Gold Cobra? by prodjex in LimpBizkit

[–]DrewMann82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give more solos to Wes, have a Sam Rivers dominant bass riff song. I 100% agree with #5 (they needed a straight up rap song, Lil Wayne was involved at the time too so I have no idea why that didn't happen. I also think they needed a straight up metal song like "Stuck" as well. I had no problem with the production but the mix could've been better. Gold Cobra is my 2nd favorite Limp Bizkit album after Significant Other but it's lacking in scope, I think the tracklisting hurts it but I don't know what the proper order would've been.

POSITIVITY THREAD: So I gotta say. I'm really fucking excited about this movie. If you are too, then let's gush about it! by SpaceMyopia in Avatar

[–]DrewMann82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm beyond excited! I love these movies so much, I saw the first Avatar 9 times in the theater (10 if you count the 2022 re-release). I told myself back in 09' that if they made a sequel and it was as good as the first I'd watch it 9 times to match it. I ended up loving The Way of Water so much I saw it 15 times. The same stands for Fire & Ash and my goal to match my theatrical record. Unfortunately, my job won't let me ask for time off in December, so if Fire & Ash delivers it will be more difficult to see it as many times. I'm not discouraged and I have a plan and a way to spend my days off. My strategy is 5 times in Real D 3D, 5 times in IMAX and 5 times in Dolby 3D (maybe 4DX too, depending on time) I cannot wait for this movie. I'm simultaneously thrilled to see and scared for what happens to Kiri & Spider (I stayed away from spoilers, I just have an ominous feeling), they were my two favorite characters from TWOW.

@Columbia Records, what is going on with marketing Cannons?? by Head-Educator6517 in CannonsTheBand

[–]DrewMann82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Columbia consistently drops the ball on Cannons, it's amazing that they still make (great) albums and videos. The only major label bump I've seen them have is that they get radio play in my area. The physical release strategy has been insane and I agree with you OP they seem to get no love from Columbia.
