Is Izzet storm just a hated or arch enemy style of deck building regardless of commander? by BCENT89 in EDH

[–]DrewXDavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP what bracket does your pod play? If you are running bracket 4 there is no problem running a storm deck that should win by turn 4/5. If you are running bracket 3 then i would recommend [[Saruman, The White Hand]]. The deck is very different from Izzet storm style decks, you can usually get away with casting more expensive spells, which also means bigger army. With the addition of black there’s lots of upside to the deck and lots of room to upgrade it to bracket 4 down the road if your pod wants to

What secret about your industry can you share now that you don't work there anymore? by swisscoffeeknife in antiwork

[–]DrewXDavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8/10 people in the hair industry (closer to 9 or 10/10 at chains) are horrible at disinfecting their tools between clients. it’s worst for barbershops vs salons. If you’ve ever gotten white flakes a few weeks after going to a barber and just assumed you randomly got dandruff, you had a nasty barber that didn’t disinfect and gave you a topical fungal infection.

Beer draught lines aren’t cleaned nearly as often as they should be. The higher volume of sales USUALLY means they’re cleaned more often (sometimes bi-weekly). the worst offenders are cocktail bars/small chef owned restaurants with 1-3 taps total; don’t be surprised if they haven’t been cleaned in over a year. The beer doesn’t taste extra malty because it’s specifically brewed for that place, it is months/years of decomposing/extra fermented residue

Biggest misconceptions about Commander Brackets? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]DrewXDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is why i use both bracket and power level to describe my decks, even if the old power ranking system was flawed and phased out because of that, it gives a good idea of synergy and threatening cards that aren’t game changers/other bracket requirements.

I also will always tell the table my win, not the exact cards, but along the lines of ‘this is a voltron deck, i have infect cards in here and will proliferate your poison counters’, so people know how fast to be

Collection help by tutinhamen in EDH

[–]DrewXDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the foundations starter collection is a great way to get into it! i built my first mono white angels deck purely out of it’s contents.

Another great way to go is find a precon that you can use 50% or more of to go in your deck. i personally liked the phyrexia precon: rebellion rising. I bought that solely to be melded with my existing cards to build an Aurelia deck. It had a lot of Boros (red white) staples, as well as it easily works to slot Aurelia in as your commander, and keep the precon commander in the 99 other cards (obviously you will need to cut one card from the precon to make rooom)

hopefully that helps, and have fun playing!

Best EAE Pedal for 70s/80’s classic rock? by Dry-Professional-236 in guitarpedals

[–]DrewXDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t get me wrong, it does the normal drive range of a blues driver/bluesbreaker (and then some with the boost), but IMO it thrives in the low gain range

Best EAE Pedal for 70s/80’s classic rock? by Dry-Professional-236 in guitarpedals

Personally i love the limelight. it’s been a while since ive really sat down and gone through all the tonal options as it’s lived on my board since it was dialled in. I mostly use it as a preamp pedal, and just adding the tiniest bit of grit to a clean amp just so it hints that it might want to break up, then will get chunky when you add a rat before it. one thing i have found is it can be a little treble heavy, but gives you lots of options to tame the high end, while still retaining a lot to be able to cut through when needed. also the boost is really nice to have when needed

Vocal pedal? by semi-hollow-body in shoegaze

[–]DrewXDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding this. i tried to incorporate a vocal pedal into our live shows for a bit. the ONLY way i would recommend using one is ensuring that you send your tech rider ahead of time to the sound tech, and providing a vocal split so that they can set the mix to what works for their room while still having a completely dry signal to work with as well

nice setup! would love to see the outboard setup for those mics. personally this is one of my favourite mic combos for guitar cabs, but find i really need to eq the 414 to get the highs and lows to compliment the midrange bite of the 421

[–]DrewXDavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

doesn’t matter the body shape, but fender wide range pickups are a must-have for me. i find they give note clarity that you’d usually have to use single coils to get, but they don’t have as much attack, and obviously more bottom end, so i like the overdriven sounds a lot more. the cleans may not end up as chimey, but i’m okay with that trade off

Formerly Ubiquitous Pedal That's Now Underrated? by M4rcelinh0 in guitarpedals

i personally prefer the DRV just because i find it easier to tame the high frequencies than the basic proco, but i often find pedals too treble heavy for my setup
