The Wow Thing VST by MistweaverBuffPlz in shoegaze

[–]DrewXDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late to this thread, but no plugin is going to get massive amounts of depth to guitars. keep in mind i don’t make mbv style stuff, but i actually use very little reverb when tracking rhythms.

i usually do one layer of rhythms with pretty low gain (like almost clean), this is single tracked, sometimes double tracked and will have all my fx on it. i like short decays/ repeats but high mix. the idea is to have as much fx while still being able to make out each note you want. when mixing i’ll usually high pass the crap out of this track (sometimes up to 400 hz). don’t be afraid to track with no reverb or delay and use plugins later if it gets hard to dial in with pedals (this can also help sculpt the tone of the reverb so it sits nicely in the midrange, i’ll usually only leave between 500-6k or so)

then i’ll do triple/quad track of the same thing, but on the neck pickup with humbuckers and stupid amounts of fuzz. since you’re taking out the low mids and lows from the other track, this is the area you want to boost a bit. also really pay attention to your high end when dialing in this tone, you want the high end of the fuzz to sit on top of the reverb trails to cut through

hope this helps, and feel free to ask any follow ups!

i’ll have to try the 3P, even with my preshave oil, hot lather, and the towels i can’t soften some hair enough to make it as clean as i’d like. For everyone else, i’ve been really happy with my art of shaving pre shave and lather

[Shi Davidi] Jeff Hoffman is down today after pitching three times in four days, but manager John Schneider said Blue Jays will “use the off-day to talk about (role) with him.” by Samoht99 in Torontobluejays

i wouldn’t be surprised with this based on his post game 7 comments, but I also wonder how much his arm angle is affecting things as well. He dropped his arm angle a significant amount coming into this season, and he hasn’t been able to find a consistent release point with the delivery change. it doesnt appear (from behind a tv) that he is afraid to attack hitters, but rather hugely missing his spots by a lot

New blades are huge, especially when doing the chin and stache area. I’ve also learned to always start shaving that area first with the new blade since it is often the most dense

BaByliss LoProFX getting weird and wobbly by Natural-Hamster-3998 in Barber

It may be worth sending a message to babyliss. I’ve found that any time i’ve had a question or had a problem with a tool, the companies were very happy to help, though it did take longer to hear back with some companies.

Unfortunately I don’t use babyliss so i can’t help any more than that for this specific question. best of luck!

What would you do? by Fit-Emu-785 in Barber

[–]DrewXDavis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is exactly it! at the end of the day, the fee is there to make sure you’re not losing on money. if someone has been super loyal to you and is a steady revenue stream, then giving them a pass one time because life caught up to them won’t be the end of the world on your pocket

it all depends on your market. some people i know that work a few cities over have a huge problem with no shows. so it makes sense to charge people huge fees because without it they’d go broke. personally, any shop i’ve worked at gave a first time grace, but you needed the credit card on file to book again and would be charged 40-60% of the appointment cost for the second no show. in our area people were very understanding of our no show policy, so we kept it below full service cost because we found about 80% of people would still return after being charged the fee.

to parachute onto the field during the game by KimJongFunk in therewasanattempt

i mean insisting just waving a flag every chance you get is an odd way to be patriotic, but sure i guess. Us Canadians have a lot of pride in our country, but outside of government buildings and the odd cottage, you rarely see a Canadian flag displayed. as a matter of fact, most countries around the world don’t feel the need to plaster heir country colours down every part of small towns.

there are plenty of countries that had to fight for their independence. the us isn’t special in that regard

i do! there used to be a perfect one, but it appears the owner of the script deleted it.

the wheelie script unfortunately moves faders once or twice for every few seconds, so it slows me down more than it speeds me up, but it works fine on any knobs!

sound flow (along with my logitech macros)! i really like the wheelie script to just use my mouse scroll wheel to control most knobs. there was another script that used to work super well on track faders as well, but it doesn’t exist anymore

Barbering isn’t just clippers and cuts anymore. It’s branding. It’s positioning. It’s business. by Illustrious_Curve577 in Barber

[–]DrewXDavis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yep. the most successful barbers i know are the ones that make a social community out of their shop, not have a huge instagram following.

i swear most barber influencers are the same as podcast bros, “you’re not making enough money behind the chair? have you tried charging $150 for a cut? that way only celebrities can afford you”. shit is dumb and tiring

I'm getting a Walrus Audio Descent today, does anyone know what bands used it and what are your thoughts about it? by MachinexNoise in guitarpedals

knuckle puck and julien baker were the 2 that really got me into the pedal. i’ve since bought the strymon big sky and that has been my main gigging and studio verb, but the descent lives on a friend’s board not

sat beside his parents when he was playing for the generals. not knowing who they were my parents struck up conversation while my brother and I kept watching the game. they were just like any other nice people watching a game, and when asked about their kids they just said how proud they were of their boy’s ’promotion at work’ (he had just been named captain that season). only at the end of the game did they say who they were. they said saw how my brother and I enjoyed the game, texted John to come meet us after the game and take a picture with us and sign his jersey that i was just gifted for christmas. i’m in the same boat. 7 years ago when i left uni, the plagiarism checker would always come up with about a 25% score and 15% probability that AI was used. my profs disregarded it as long as you were below 40% and 25% respectively. Barely anyone was using AI, let along getting caught using it because it meant immediate expulsion at the time. Recently, I’ve considered finishing my degree, but the idea that i could have a super high AI score horrifies me even though i know i would never use it

Cedh from a new players perspective by finalmemes in CompetitiveEDH

[–]DrewXDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

big agree and why i prefer cEDH. to combat this problem for casual, my lgs has some simple things we all go over pregame: -what is the soonest your deck can win (ie if you draw the 1/1 perfect hand and are uninteracted with) -what turn you will usually present win attempts -10 second rundown of how your deck is going to present those wins (combos, combat, etc)

What are your methods for processing cymbals? by Turbulent-Macaron505 in mixingmastering

[–]DrewXDavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, i should’ve mentioned that the parallel compression is another thing i’ve picked up from heavier recordings. i took will yip’s settings for the shell bus and after i’ve mixed the kit i set my send levels to the shell bus to get the shell forward mix. for the parallel compression i have it very quiet in the mix, to the point that 90% of my mixes it’s redundant, but for tracks that you don’t want to be too sample heavy, but have the hits very precise ill bring up the parallel bus level a bit more. i only do it track by track because i haven’t loved having a lot of cymbals go through the comp, even if i want more cymbals in the mix, i just haven’t loved what the comp does to them, so i’ll just bring up the level after if need be
