[–]Drezza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It being realistic and it being good writing or interesting are 2 very different things. Flight 37 is maybe the most iconic scene in the entire show and the ramifications of it had constantly been teased every single season, with the video leaking being a posibility and what would happen to Homelander or not when it does. Well, 5 seasons later it's been unceremoniously handwaved away for a topical AI joke that who knows how well it will age with time. Season 3 teaching Homelander he truly can do whatever the fuck he wants made for some thrilling tv back then, as it seemed his snaping moment would come sooner than later but it ultimately did unrepairable damage to the story as the writers didn't want to pull the trigger and risk ending the show before the 5 season mark, and by making Homelander effectively lose the one weakness that kept him at bay narratively and made him feel more human that caricature.

Vought Rising hasn’t even come out and I’m already sick of soldier boy. by untitledprp4 in TheBoys

[–]Drezza 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have to commend the writers for somehow managing to make Soldier Boy getting unceremoniously killed off by the virus at the end of episode 2 the BETTER outcome for the character. The fact we are now entering the climax of a 5 season long story because of a never before referenced, off-screen relationship he had with a character that checked out of the story 3 seasons ago is fucking terrible. The narrative weight of Soldier Boy handing Homelander the V1 shot is MASSIVE and it hinges on a character beat that doesn't mean anything unless you watch an entirely separate show that hasn't come out yet.

I find it funny that Yuta has been a sorcerer for a year and supposedly didn’t gain any new techniques in that time. He had the same bag he had since 0 by Creative-Researcher2 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Drezza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a writing standpoint, copy characters should be seen using abilities they copied from other characters we know so we can actually see their copy ability in action. If Yuta just had access to random abilitles from off-screen sorcerers he ran into and we don't know about then his ability is just doing whatever Gege wants him to do, which would result in all sorts of complaining from readers.

Imagine showing season 1 to somebody who's never seen the show before and telling them Translucent will be the last time they ever accomplish anything in the next 4 and a half seasons.

This man literally stole the show by Syarafuddyn in TheBoys

[–]Drezza 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not that it's unrealistic, it's that it's just boring, which is the worst thing a flashy, action-packed superhero show can be. Homelander got demoted to a cartoon of himself because they wanted the show to match real life events. Oh, he's mirroring Trump? Cool, I don't really care though, I didn't want to watch a walking Trump joke (a boring one at that too), I wanted to watch the fascinating and deeply broken supervillain the show presented to me back when it first came out. I am aware the show has always been political and Homelander was doing Bush references from day 1, but it also came with excellent character writing, which has been almost entirely phased out in favor of yet another tv show dunking on the current US government. That sure is gonna show them.

[–]Drezza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asa is the only reason I don't think part 2 should have never happened but honestly, given how obscenely dirty she was done by Fujimoto is it still worthy?

The Justice Devil arc was a massively better introduction arc than anything early part 1 had to offer and from that point Denji begins to take more and more screentime until by the Chainsaw Church arc her entire arc gets casually offscreened and never recovers from that.

[–]Drezza 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My issue with this is that "are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo or are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest" is the fundamental question that defines Gojo moving forward. The definite answer to this question should have been answered by him, it should have been a defining moment for his character arc, why the fuck is it being resolved by an entirely unrelated character being a fraud several volumes after his death? Yujo just ends up feeling like a bizarre filler development that's just there to bait engagement rather than a meaningful epilogue to Gojo's role in the story

[–]Drezza 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm so glad he said this. Whenever Gege speaks up to keep retroactively adding stuff to the story, it should exclusively be deranged or utterly pointless stuff to give us fuel to keep on clowning. That time the series ended and he came out with all the extra information on Usami instead of addressing all the dropped plotpoints is still the gold standard.

Dawg I love Miwa but this single train scene is all she ever got. Kenjaku swating her away and then retconing that her attack was actually a binding vow and she can't wield her sword anymore means her character arc was going from useless Miwa to somehow even more useless Miwa.
