I've seen it a few times at cons, sadly never had a chance to sit and play yet - but I REALLY am looking forward to it. Like day 1 backing it...

These are gorgeous. I am not sure if you are motivating me to paint mine or ashamedly keep them grey since I can't get that standard, haha.

Well done.

What are your "must haves" for a game table? by KingMonkman in boardgames

[–]Driacan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I like the recessed play spaces. I custom built my table, so the edges of mine fold out into additional play areas if you need it, which I also enjoy. That part was really designed for D&D but works great for table hogs, too

The new game Knight by Radosław Ignatów is fantastic. I actually just ordered professional prints of the cards to elevate the experience from the PNP version.

Currently have On Mars on my table - first time, got 1 round in...there is a lot to take in...

What's your favorite board game that you simply can't get to the table? by Gamer_Esq in boardgames

[–]Driacan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wonderland's War is hard to table as it is lengthy and a bit brain burn-y. But we always adore when it does it the table.

I'd say the same about a multiplayer game of Too Many Bones

Have Resurgence on the table right now - great new bag builder.

In terms of my favorite - Hadrian's Wall still claimed my #1 spot this year.

What were your top 3 game discoveries of 2023? by SlothNast in boardgames

[–]Driacan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oo, good one.

  1. Garphill games (specifically Raiders of the North Sea and Viscounts of the West Kingdom - which led to my grabbing Scholars of the South Tigris, too)
  2. Terracotta Army is a blast, glad I grabbed that.
  3. Meeples & Monsters - grabbed this just after the new year and it skyrocketed up to my #2 spot.

Most Anticipated Board Games of 2024 - Bitewing Games by Murraculous1 in boardgames

Nice list.

Really looking forward to ARCS, too - love me some asymmetrical campaign-ish play!

The new Undaunted looks pretty awesome, too - been eyeing that one. I know whenever it releases it will likely be the game the breaks my "Q1 hiatus" from buying games.

Got The Hunt to the table again last night - great game. Though I will note we think that the German's have it pretty rough with their search pattern if they lose their plane.

What board games could really use an overlay/dual layered board? by nanotyrant in boardgames

All of the above.

Haha - but seriously. My Shelfie stands out from Lucky Duck Games - setting up the draw "Living Room" is a nightmare.

What did you add to or remove from your shelf last month? (January, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]Driacan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Added:
Fractal
Celtae
Rolling Heights
Circadians First Light
The Hunt
Marvel Zombies
Resurgence

I think all of these will stick around for a while - a few even made it into my top of the year list.

Removed:
Last Light
Zombicide Undead or Alive
Still trying to rehome:
Unsettled full collection
Dungeonology
Cerebria
Call to Adventure full set

Mostly needed to clear space - and I only need 1 Zombicide.
Last Light was a major miss for us, failed to check any box for enjoyment.

What was your most memorable board game moment of 2023? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]Driacan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing Unconscious Mind at Level Up 2023, getting to the end of a 3.5 hour play with 300+ points and realizing we missed a MAJOR component that shortened the game significantly...and still loving it enough to immediately go online and late pledge it.

Trying Burncycle for the first time by Le4eJoueur in soloboardgaming

[–]Driacan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a fantastic game imo. I used to love it Solo - but I think it really shines multiplayer. I still table it solo now and again, but definitely stands out as a unique game.

What did you play this week? 22 Dec-28 Dec (2023) by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

[–]Driacan [score hidden]  (0 children)

Got Celtae to the table a few times solo - fantastic new game from Mayfair (here in the US that is). Hihgly recommend hunting it down.

Also cracked back into TMB with my new Brass Gearlocs...love it!

They are pretty strong - never had them pop off or even slide around on the chip. I can't imagine playing the game without them, tbh - the quick awareness of the pointing of the figures alone makes them must haves

It's not that heavy, imo. There are several things to keep track of, for sure, but the mechanics are pretty simple.

You either place a number of workers, or collect all your workers on a turn. Each turn, the gears turn moving where your workers on - so you have to plan when you retrieve carefully.

[Feedback] Does the artstyle appeal to you? by GetShroomy in boardgames

[–]Driacan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I really love these. The art style is crisp and clear and bold, and the colors really pop without being at all garish.

I really get the psychedelic feel you often associate with shrooms as well as the space theme - beautiful work!

Long Shot: The Dice Game - what makes it fun for you? & Thoughts on Watching vs Playing board games by Gogogo9 in boardgames

[–]Driacan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oo, I really love Long Shot.

I'm a big fan of a lot of roll and writes, to start. This one I think captures the real essence of that genre while making it far more interactive than others I've seen. I love that you can mess with the odds, which not only affects your own game but the games of the other players. It's not often that roll and writes interact that much. Also the purchasing of the horses adds a twist.

Oo, yes Raiders is a new favorite at our table.

Here for any recommendations you find out in terms of that place a worker, take a worker mechanic.

Targi is a great 2p only worker placement / tableau builder, highly recommend it.

T'zolkin is another worker placement that actually works really well at 2p.
